Lung transplantation at the University of Lund 1990-1995. Analysis of the first 39 consecutive patients
Between 1990 and 1995 39 patients were lung transplanted at the University Hospital in Lund. This is a retrospective review of survival and lung function in these patients. There were 17 single-lung transplants (SLT), 21 double-lung transplants (DLT) and 1 heart-lung transplant (HLT). Seven patients died during the period, giving an overall survival of 82%. One-year survival according to Kaplan-Me
Visual influence on postural control, with and without visual motion feedback.
Body sway was investigated in 20 healthy subjects to determine whether visual input must contain motion feedback information from the surroundings in order to influence postural control. Posturography was used to record body sway under the following visual conditions: eyes open with or without a restricted visual field; eyes open in ganzfield white light; eyes open in darkness with a head-fixed vi

Nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes under electron irradiation simulated with a tight-binding model
Experiments show that nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes subjected to the electron beam in a transmission electron microscope can easily lose dopant atoms and that overall they are less stable under electron irradiation than the pristine tubes. To understand the lower stability of nitrogen-doped nanotubes we use a density-functional-theory-based tight-binding model and simulate impacts of energetic e
Zarah Leander: Den queera divan
This article discusses the actress and singer Zarah Leander (1907-1981), one of the most celebrated female stars in German Nazi Cinema 1936-43. She is a contradictory figure, and her star persona has always been a negotiation of antagonistic formulations, thus pointing to modes of audience identification and specatorship issues, most strikingly articulated through her immense popularity in the pos

Rotational Bands with Terminating Properties in 59Ni
Highly-deformed rotational bands were established in Ni-59 using the Ca-40(Si-29,2p2alpha)Ni-59 reaction. Lifetime measurements indicate that transition quadrupole moments of two of these bands decrease as they smoothly approach their maximum-spin states. The configurations of these bands as well as their band-terminating features are discussed based on configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Stru
Comparison of growth characteristics and exopolysaccharide formation of two lactic acid bacteria strains, Pediococcus damnosus 2.6 and Lactobacillus brevis G-77, in an oat-based, non-dairy medium.
The fermentation characteristics of two strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Lactobacillus brevis G-77 and Pediococcus damnosus 2.6 were compared in an oat-based, nondairy milk medium (Adavena® G40). Viscosity and ropiness were the main growth parameters studied. Both strains are reported to produce an exopolysaccharide (EPS) with a -glucan structure; in addition, the L. brevis strain produces a
Multimodal approach to seismic pavement testing
A multimodal approach to nondestructive seismic pavement testing is described. The presented approach is based on multichannel analysis of all types of seismic waves propagating along the surface of the pavement. The multichannel data acquisition method is replaced by multichannel simulation with one receiver. This method uses only one accelerometer-receiver and a light hammer-source, to generate
Adverse effects and benefits of two years of anagrelide treatment for thrombocythemia in chronic myeloproliferative disorders
Background and Objectives. Although anagrelide is widely used in the treatment of throm-bocythemia in myeloproliferative diseases, there is currently limited information on the efficacy and toxicity of its long-term use. This prospective study investigated clinical toxicity and efficacy of anagrelide during two years of treatment. Design and Methods. A multicenter, open, phase II study of anagreli
Development of monoclonal antibodies against creatine kinase MB2
An increase of creatine kinase MB (CKMB) in serum has long been used as a marker for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). It is important with an early diagnosis and since the amount of the CKMB2 isoform rises above reference levels much earlier than the total creatine kinase amount, quantification of CKMB isoforms could be a feasible alternative for early analysis. The two CKMB isoforms differ by o

Ubi est unitas? : The Latin Letters from Johannes Annorelius, a Swedish Catholic Convert, to his Brother. A Critical Edition with an Introduction
I breven förklarar han varför hanThis book presents a critical edition of the Latin letters in ms. G3 (Uppsala University Library) from Johannes Annorelius to his brother. Johannes Annorelius left Sweden as a young student in the beginning of the 18th century and settled down in Flanders, where he converted to the Catholic faith and became a Capuchin friar. In the Capuchin friary Annorelius wrote several extensive letters in Fren

Coercion and coercive care
Our main aim is to understand the phenomena coercion by regarding how it is created and maintained during coercive care of drug abusers in Sweden. In this article we follow processes through coercive care by stories from social workers and clients. 23 interviews were conducted with 13 social workers in the social services and 10 persons who have been under coercive care. The material derives from

Tests of QCD factorisation in the diffractive production of dijets in deep-inelastic scattering and photoproduction at HERA
Measurements are presented of differential dijet cross sections in diffractive photoproduction (Q(2) < 0.01 GeV2) and deep-inelastic scattering processes (DIS, 4 < Q2 < 80 GeV2). The event topology is given by ep -> eXY, in which the system X, containing at least two jets, is separated from a leading low-mass baryonic system Y by a large rapidity gap. The dijet cross sections are compared with NLO
Biochemical and immuno-pathological aspects of tissue transglutaminase in coeliac disease
Tissue transglutaminase (tTg) has been identified as the major autoantigen in coeliac disease (CD). ELISA methods have been developed for measuring the autoantibody. There are divergent reports on the effects of calcium on the antibody binding to tTg. Furthermore, zinc is a potent inhibitor of tTg. To better understand the role of transglutaminase in CD, we have studied the stability of commercial
