Exact Methods for Multi-echelon Inventory Control : Incorporating Shipment Decisions and Detailed Demand Information

Recent advances in information technologies and an increased environmental awareness have altered the prerequisites for successful logistics. For companies operating on a global market, inventory control of distribution systems is often an essential part of their logistics planning. In this context, the research objective of this thesis is: To develop exact methods for stochastic inventory control

A new subspecies of Anthanassa (Nymphalidae: Nymphalinae: Melitaeini) from Southeastern Brazil

A new subspecies of Anthanassa drusilla, ssp rioverde, is described from Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil. This new subspecies is isolated from all odier known subspecies of A. drusilla by at least 2000 km, and its closest taxon based on wing pattern is Anthanassa drusilla higginsi, from Cerro Neblina, Venezuela. To our knowledge, the species is endemic to the region of Pogos de Caldas Plateau (M

Decentering human rights from the international order of states : The alignment and interaction of transnational policy channels

This article accounts for recent developments in corporate social responsibility, international trade and investment law, international human rights law, development aid, and the laws of home states reaching extraterritorially in order to advance a regulatory perspective on commerce and human rights. While these developments are remarkable, the analysis documents the prevalence of softer strategie

Public Debt Episodes in Irish Economic History 1950-2015

In this paper I study the public debt dynamics of three episodes (the crises of the 1950s, the 1980s and 2010-15) in Ireland’s modern economic history. By using traditional debt dynamic decomposition formulae, I measure the components which contributed most to public debt ratio reduction following previous high debt episodes. I also employ the case of Sweden for comparative purposes, in how it eme

Unified behavior of alkali core-level binding-energy shifts induced by sp metals

Thin overlayers of Na, K. Rb, and Cs on different sp-metal substrates have been investigated using photo-electron spectroscopy. The alkali core levels show clearly resolved binding-energy shifts between the surface layer, the intermediate layer(s), and the interface layer. The magnitude of these shifts depends on sp metal and on alkali metal. The layer-resolved core-level binding-energy shifts are

Vibrational fine structure in the C 1s core level photoemission of chemisorbed molecules : Ethylene and ethylidyne on Rh(111)

The origin of fine structure in the core-level photoemission spectra of the C2H4, C2D4, C2H3 and C2D3 molecules chemisorbed on Rh(111) is probed in a careful high-resolution study showing that this structure arises from internal molecular vibrations rather than from other chemically-shifted carbon atoms. It is shown by comparison of the adsorbate and gas-phase spectra that the underlying features

Metal-dielectric transition in Ba0.6K0.4BiO3-y single crystals studied by scanning photoelectron microscopy

The electronic structure of Ba0.6K0.4BiO3-y single crystals has been studied using a scanning photoelectron microscope with a lateral resolution in the one micrometer range. It is possible to change the oxygen content (y) and convert the surface from the metallic to the dielectric state presumably by breaking the Bi-O bonds by using the focused zero-order light to irradiate the sample surface. The

X-ray absorption study of oxygen in the high-Tc superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 near the interfaces to Cu, Ag and Au

The influence on O 2p holes in single crystalline Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 upon the interface formation to Cu, Ag and Au has been studied by O K edge X-ray absorption measurements. It was found that Cu reduces the amount of doping induced O 2p holes significantly in the vicinity of the interface, whereas Ag and Au gave a much smaller reduction of these states. Photoemission spectra confirmed previous finding

Surface core level shift on Be( 112̄0)

A photoemission study of the Be(112̄0) surface carried out at a sample temperature of 100 K is reported. A surface shifted Be 1s component, having a shift of - 410 meV, is resolved on this surface. The extracted surface to bulk intensity ratio indicate that this component originates from atoms in the surface layer only. This is opposite to previous observations on both the close-packed

As capping of MBE-grown compound semiconductors; novel opportunities to interface science and device fabrication

In situ condensation of an amorphous cap of the high vapour pressure element (i.e. As, Sb) has been found to provide effective protection of molecular beam epitaxy grown compound semiconductor surfaces against ambient contamination. Most work reported so far relates to arsenic-capped AlGaAs. Detailed investigation with surface sensitive structural (RHEED, LEED) and chemical (XPS) probes confirms t

Sm- and Yb-induced reconstructions of the Si(111) surface

Low-energy electron diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy, and photoelectron spectroscopy results from the submonolayer Sm- and Yb-induced surface structures are presented. Several similar metal-induced surface reconstructions are found to exist for Yb and Sm on Si(111) for low submonolayer coverages: 3×2, 5×1, and 7×1. At higher submonolayer coverage, Yb induces a 2×1 reconstruction while Sm

Language, news and volatility

I use Google News to study the relation between news volumes and stock market volatilities. More than nine million stock market-related news stories in English and Chinese are collected and the dynamics of the news volume and the stock market volatility is compared. I find that the stock market volatility and the number of publicly available global news stories are strongly linked in both language

Predictive and prognostic clinical variables in cancer patients treated with adenoviral oncolytic immunotherapy

The development of oncolytic viruses has recently made great progress towards being available to cancer patients. With the breakthrough into clinics, it is crucial to analyze the existing clinical experience and use it as a basis for treatment improvements. Here we report clinical data from 290 patients treated with oncolytic adenovirus. Using clinical variables and treatment characteristics, we c

The accuracy of preoperative axillary nodal staging in primary breast cancer by ultrasound is modified by nodal metastatic load and tumor biology

Background The outcome of axillary ultrasound (AUS) with fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) in the diagnostic work-up of primary breast cancer has an impact on therapy decisions. We hypothesize that the accuracy of AUS is modified by nodal metastatic burden and clinico-pathological characteristics. Material and methods The performance of AUS and AUS-guided FNAB for predicting nodal metastases wa

A nationwide family study of venous thromboembolism and risk of arterial vascular disease

OBJECTIVE: This nationwide study aimed to determine whether venous thromboembolism (VTE) shares familial susceptibility with aortic aneurysm (AA), peripheral artery disease (PAD) and arterial thrombosis and embolisation (ATE) in locations other than the heart and brain.METHODS: Nationwide Swedish family study. Data from the Swedish Multi-Generation Register for subjects aged 0-78 years old, coveri
