A taxonomy of planning and scheduling methods to support their more efficient use in construction project management

Purpose The implementation and control processes of project planning and scheduling involve a wide range of methods and tools. Despite the development and modification and integration of the project management theory with newer scheduling approaches in particular, practitioners’ views on the efficiency and effectiveness of these methods and tools differ. This situation can be attributed in part to

WNT3 involvement in human bladder exstrophy and cloaca development in zebrafish.

Bladder exstrophy, a severe congenital urological malformation when a child is born with an open urinary bladder, is the most common form of bladder exstrophy-epispadias complex (BEEC) with an incidence of 1:30.000 children of Caucasian descent. Recent studies suggest that WNT genes may contribute to the etiology of bladder exstrophy. Here, we evaluated WNT pathway genes in 20 bladder exstrophy pa

Ordovician sediments sandwiched between Proterozoic basement slivers: tectonic structures in the Stumsnas 1 drill core from the Siljan Ring, central Sweden

The Stumsnas 1 core, drilled in 2011 in the southern part of the Siljan Ring, represents a structurally complex section and provides new insights into the impact-induced local structure in central Sweden. The Siljan Ring was formed around the central uplift of a Late Devonian meteorite crater, the largest known impact structure in Europe. The Stumsnas 1 core section reveals that about 90m of Palae

Consumption of fatty foods and incident type 2 diabetes in populations from eight European countries.

Background/Objectives:Diets high in saturated and trans fat and low in unsaturated fat may increase type 2 diabetes (T2D) risk, but studies on foods high in fat per unit weight are sparse. We assessed whether the intake of vegetable oil, butter, margarine, nuts and seeds and cakes and cookies is related to incident T2D.Subjects/Methods:A case-cohort study was conducted, nested within eight countri

Effects of macroeconomic uncertainty on the stock and bond markets

In this paper we show that the long-run stock and bond volatility and the long-run stock-bond correlation depend on macroeconomic uncertainty. We use the mixed data sampling (MIDAS) econometric approach. The findings are in accordance with the flight-to-quality phenomenon when macroeconomic uncertainty is high. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. Internationalization Through Sociopolitical Relationships: MNEs in India.

This paper discusses how foreign Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) with limited resources may build a position in a challenging and culturally different emerging market. We apply exchange theory and an interorganizational approach, and discuss how firms develop a unique set of relationships and gain the support of business, as well as political and social actors, to manage their operations in an em

Candida albicans- a pre-whole genome duplication yeast is predominantly aerobic and a poor ethanol producer.

Yeast species belonging to the lineage that underwent the whole genome duplication (WGD), and including Saccharomyces cerevisiae, can grow under anaerobiosis and accumulate ethanol in the presence of glucose and oxygen. The pre-WGD yeasts, which branched from the S. cerevisiae lineage just prior to the WGD event, including Kluyveromyces lactis, are more dependent on oxygen and do not accumulate la

Misreporting and misclassification: implications for socioeconomic disparities in body-mass index and obesity.

Body-mass index (BMI) has become the standard proxy for obesity in social science research. This study deals with the potential problems related to, first, relying on self-reported weight and height to calculate BMI (misreporting), and, second, the concern that BMI is a deficient measure of body fat (misclassification). Using a regional Swedish sample, we analyze whether socioeconomic disparities

Self-perceived performance and satisfaction with performance of daily activities in persons with multiple sclerosis following interdisciplinary rehabilitation.

Abstract Purpose: To assess self-perceived performance and satisfaction with performance of daily activities in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) on admission to and at discharge from interdisciplinary rehabilitation. Method: A retrospective study with a pre-post design. Twenty-seven women and 16 men with MS (mean age 51 years; median EDSS 6.5) participated in an individualised, goal-oriented,

Assessing the reliability of Holocene relative palaeointensity estimates: a case study from Swedish varved lake sediments

We present palaeomagnetic secular variation and relative palaeointensity estimates from multiple sediment cores recovered from a varved lake sediment sequence in Kalksjon, a lake in central west Sweden. Alternating field demagnetization of discrete samples reveals natural remanent magnetizations dominated by a stable, single component. Magnetic grain size indicators-which include Day plots and fir

Diabetes at the crossroads: relevance of disease classification to pathophysiology and treatment.

Diabetes is not a single homogeneous disease but composed of many diseases with hyperglycaemia as a common feature. Four factors have, historically, been used to identify this diversity: the age at onset; the severity of the disease, i.e. degree of loss of beta cell function; the degree of insulin resistance and the presence of diabetes-associated autoantibodies. Our broad understanding of the dis

Segmented tetrasulfonated copoly(arylene ether sulfone)s: improving proton transport properties by extending the ionic sequence

The morphologies and proton-transport efficiencies of segmented copoly(arylene ether sulfone) ionomers that contain tetrasulfonated sequences are compared with the corresponding copolymers with disulfonated sequences. Tetrasulfonated 4,4′-bis[(4-chlorophenyl)sulfonyl]-1,1′-biphenyl (sBCPSBP) is synthesized by metalation and sulfination. This new monomer is then used in K2CO3-mediated polycondensat

Quantitative determination of the anti-tumor agent tasquinimod in human urine by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Tasquinimod is an anti-tumor drug that is currently in clinical development for the treatment of solid cancers. After oral administration, tasquinimod and a number of its metabolites are excreted in the urine. The quantitative determination of tasquinimod in urine is challenging because of the required sensitivity (down to 0.1nM or 40pg/mL), the highly variable nature of this biological matrix and

New records of Paracrias Ashmead (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) as parasitoids on weevil larvae (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) in Brazil, with the description of a new species

A associação do Paracrias strii Schauff, 1985 and P. ceratophaga Palmieri & Hansson sp. nov. are first record in Brazil and both are associated with Ceratopus Schoenherr larvae (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) reared from syconia of two species of fig-trees. Both Paracrias species are diagnosed and illustrated. Males of P. ceratophaga sp. nov. are described. The association of Paracrias with weevil larvae is brief

Computationally Efficient Capon- and APES-based Coherence Spectrum Estimation

The coherence spectrum is of notable interest as a bivariate spectral measure in a variety of application, and the topic has lately attracted interest with the recent formulation of several ligh-resolution data adaptive estimators. In this work, we further this development with the presentation of computationally efficient implementations of the Caponand APE S-based MSC estimators. The presented i
