2-D absolute OH concentration profiles in atmospheric flames using planar LIF in a bi-directional laser beam configuration

A technique has been developed to measure the absolute OH concentration at atmospheric pressures by using a combination of direct absorption and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection. The technique is independent of collisions, because it uses laser beams in a bi-directional configuration, thereby eliminating collisional quenching. The absolute OH concentration is measured spatially resolved

Using Cascaded Iterative Learning Control for Improved Task Execution

Iterative learning control (ILC) is used as a means for task execution of a time sub-optimal trajectory. The use of cascaded ILC procedures in a robot application is experimentally shown to drastically enlarge the region of convergence and efficiently compensate for unmodeled dynamics in the motion system.

Transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive materials

Popular Abstract in Swedish Avhandlingen behandlar elektromagnetisk vågutbredning i dispersiva material. Traditionellt behandlas vågutbredninThis thesis treats the problem of transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive media. The analysis is performed using time-domain techniques. In particular, the dispersive wave splitting which decouples the Maxwell equations both in vacuum and inside the medium is utilized. Complex time-dependent electromagnetic fields are introduced. These fields simplify the Maxwell equat

Relaxation of a Rectangular Beam and Circular Shaft

The paper provides exact and approximate solutions to the title problems. Time-hardening creep is adopted and the stress dependence is assumed to follow the exponential expression proposed by Soderberg. Even though the exact solutions are easy to work with, some approximate solutions are discussed. These approximate solutions are obtained from the exact ones by simply ignoring certain terms; error

Loitering with intent: dealing with human-intensive systems

This paper discusses the professional roles of information systems analysts and users, focusing on a perspective of human intensive, rather than software intensive information systems. The concept of ‘meaningful use’ is discussed in re-lation to measures of success/failure in IS development. The authors consider how a number of different aspects of reductionism may distort analyses, so that proces

Structural Change and the Fall of Income Inequality in Latin America : Agricultural Development, Inter-sectoral Duality, and the Kuznets Curve

In this study we approach the recent decline in income inequality in Latin America from the perspective of structural change with a focus on the relative performance of the agricultural sector. Our focus is on the underlying forces implied by Kuznets (1965). We zoom in on the relative performance of agriculture in the development process and the rural-urban duality and pay particular attention to

Controlling the Influent Load to Wastewater Treatment Plants

The need for control of the influent load to a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is becoming more important. One reason for this is that there are a number of things that cannot be achieved with plant-focused control. For instance it is hard to avoid sludge loss as a result of poor settling or reducing a too high influent flow rate by in-plant control actions. It is also difficult to reduce the ef
