N-methylsuccinimide in plasma and urine as a biomarker of exposure to N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone

OBJECTIVE: N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is a selective and powerful organic solvent. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the NMP metabolite N-methylsuccinimide (MSI) in plasma and urine can be used as a biomarker of exposure to NMP. METHODS: Six healthy subjects were exposed to 10, 25, and 50 mg NMP/m3 in an exposure chamber for 8 h. The air levels were monitored by XAD-7 solid sorben

Macrocell-Wide Behavior of the Orthogonality Factor in WCDMA Downlinks

The orthogonality factor (OF) quantifies the loss of orthogonality between the signals transmitted simultaneously on a wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) downlink due to multipath dispersion. It is one of the fundamental parameters that determines the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio at the output of the Rake receiver and, consequently, it has a significant impact on downlink sy

Role of supraspinal alpha 1-adrenoceptors for voiding in conscious rats with and without bladder outlet obstruction

Purpose: Previous studies have shown that spinal alpha1-adrenoceptors can influence voiding in normal rats and in rats with outlet obstruction. Also, at the supraspinal level such receptors may be involved in voiding control. Therefore, we studied in rats the effects on cystometrography of intracerebroventricular administered alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonists. Materials and Methods: Continuous cysto

Shortening of clavicle after fracture. Incidence and clinical significance, a 5-year follow-up of 85 patients

We evaluated the incidence and clinical significance of postfracture shortening of the clavicle in 85 patients. There were 71 mid-clavicular fractures and 14 of the lateral end of the clavicle. 46 fractures were primarily undisplaced and 39 displaced. All fractures were nonoperatively treated with sling immobilization. All patients were reexamined 5 years after the fracture. 35 clavicles had heale

Semantic and grammatical genders in Swedish – independent but interacting dimensions

The purpose of this article is to outline the basic properties of the gender system in Swedish. I argue that there are two gender dimensions: one grammatical and one semantic. The two systems are independent of each other, but they interact. Crucially, the pronouns den (it.common) and det (it.neuter) can be used both as grammatical and semantic pronouns. The locus of semantic pronouns (as well as

Lighting of RoboCup Games

This paper describes the philosophy behind our lighting of the RoboCup«99 games in Stockholm 1999. It also gives relevant background in the theory of light, lighting and colour in order to motivate our design. It is our hope that it will be a valuable source of information for future RoboCup game organisers.

Synthesis, regulation and production of urokinase using mammalian cell culture: A comprehensive review

Urokinase, a serine protease, catalyzes the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin, which is responsible for dissolution of clots in blood vessels. It is an important drug for treatment of thromboembolic disease. Production of urokinase by mammalian cell culture has the following important steps: synthesis, regulation and secretion. Production and accumulation of this product in a bioreactor is a re

Outcome after endovascular treatment of Hunt and Hess grade IV or V aneurysms: comparison of anterior versus posterior circulation

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The most common cause of poor treatment outcome in patients suffering aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is cerebral vasospasm, especially in cases of poor Hunt and Hess grades (IV and V). A further prognostic factor in surgically treated patients is aneurysm localization. The aim of the present retrospective study is to compare the endovascular treatment outcome in such po

THEORY OF RESONANT EMISSION PROCESSES IN METALS

A simple and transparent formalism is presented to treat emission processes in general and resonant emission processes in metals in particular. As an example resonant photoemission in Cu metal is discussed.

Massive c(c)over-barg-calculation in diffractive DIS and diffractive D*-production at HERA

We calculate the cross section for c(c) over bar g -production in diffractive DIS with finite quark masses at zero momentum transfer t. The calculation is done in the leading log(1/x(P)) approximation and is valid in the region of high diffractive masses M (small 3). We apply our cross section formula including both c (c) over bar- and c(c) over bar g in a Monte Carlo simulation to diffractive D*(

Infinite propagation speed of the Camassa-Holm equation

We use the inverse scattering transform to show that a solution of the Camassa-Holm equation is identically zero whenever it vanishes on two horizontal half-lines in the x-t space. In particular, a solution that has compact support at two different times vanishes everywhere, proving that the Carnassa-Holm equation has infinite propagation speed. (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc.
