Ideology, Identity, and Impact: Understanding the Organizational Configuration of the Nordic Resistance Movement in Scandinavia

Based on social movement theory and a multi-level analysis, this thesis explores the Nordic Resistance Movement’s (NRM) organizational configuration, transnational character, and ideological foundations through a comparative case study of the NRM in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The NRM uses a combination of decentralized structures, hierarchies, and symbols, contributing to their unique dual natio

Perceptual-Cognitive Processes in Basketball—Individual and Team Aspects

The role of psychological processes in team sports has been studied extensively. The chapter focuses on the psychological factors that are unique to basketball. These factors include the following: (a) free throw shooting—examining the role of gaze behavior in enhancing shooting percentages, (b) “the hot hand”—the underlying mechanisms leading to a “hot streak,” (c) clutch performance under pressu

Italian adaptation and psychometric validation of the Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS) and its modified versions in adults with multiple sclerosis : a Rasch analysis study

Purpose: Several outcome measures are available to assess the severity of fatigue in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of this study was to adapt the Italian version of the Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS-40) and its modified versions: a 21-item Modified scale (MFIS-21), its 5-item short version (MFIS-5), and an 8-item version for daily use (DFIS-8) and investigate their measurement properti

Identifying biomarkers deciphering sepsis from trauma-induced sterile inflammation and trauma-induced sepsis

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify a panel of biomarkers for distinguishing early stage sepsis patients from non-infected trauma patients.BACKGROUND: Accurate differentiation between trauma-induced sterile inflammation and real infective sepsis poses a complex life-threatening medical challenge because of their common symptoms albeit diverging clinical implications, namely differ

Revolutionising sustainability leadership and education : addressing the human dimension to support flourishing, culture and system transformation

Research shows that today’s societal crises are rooted in a lack of connection to ourselves, others and nature. At the same time, there is an increasing body of knowledge showing that humans possess innate capacities for connection that can be strengthened through certain methods, and throughout our lifetimes. Such methods have, so far, however, been rarely applied, or adapted to the context of su

Electronic structure of thin epitaxial Be films on Si(111)

We show that single crystal films of Be can be grown on Si(111) substrates, exhibiting nearly identical surface electronic bandstructure to that found on the pristine Be(0001) surface of bulk Be. Segregation of silicon atoms into the film causes strong doping of the surface states. For sufficiently thin films, the quality and uniformity are sufficient to observe well-defined quantum well states. I

Assessing the Freeze/Thaw States in Arctic Circle Using FengYun-3E GNOS-R : An Initial Demonstration and Analysis

In this article, we present the first demonstration of the FengYun-3E (FY3E) Global Navigation Satellite System Occultation Sounder II-Reflectometry (GNOS-R) payload's capacity to detect near-surface soil freeze/thaw (F/T) states. This study offers an initial analysis of the F/T retrieval algorithm applied to data collected from the Arctic Circle, underscoring the GNOS-R's potential to deliver lon

Evaluation of CINA® LVO artificial intelligence software for detection of large vessel occlusion in brain CT angiography

Objective: To systematically evaluate the ability of the CINA® LVO software to detect large vessel occlusions eligible for mechanical thrombectomy on CTA using conventional neuroradiological assessment as gold standard. Methods: Retrospectively, two hundred consecutive patients referred for a brain CTA and two hundred patients that had been subject for endovascular thrombectomy, with an accessible

P-wave characteristics as electrocardiographic markers of atrial abnormality in prediction of incident atrial fibrillation – The Malmö Preventive Project

Background: P-wave indices reflect atrial abnormalities contributing to atrial fibrillation (AF). We aimed to assess a comprehensive set of P-wave characteristics for prediction of incident AF in a population-based setting. Methods: Malmö Preventative Project (MPP) participants were reexamined in 2002–2006 with electrocardiographic (ECG) and echocardiographic examinations and followed for 5 years.

FOXL2 Mutation Status in Sex Cord-stromal Tumors Cannot be Predicted by Morphology

Granulosa-cell tumors (GCTs) are the most common type of malignant ovarian sex cord-stromal tumor (SCST). The histopathologic diagnosis of these tumors can be challenging. A recurrent somatic mutation of the forkhead box L2 (FOXL2) gene has been identified in adult GCT. In this retrospective single-center study of 44 SCST, a morphologic review together with analysis of FOXL2 C134W was evaluated in

Should Tinnitus Patients with Subclinical Hearing Impairment Be Offered Hearing Aids? A Comparison of Tinnitus Mitigation Following 3 Months Hearing Aid Use in Individuals with and without Clinical Hearing Impairment

There is a consensus among tinnitus experts to not recommend hearing aids for tinnitus patients with subclinical hearing impairment. However, this notion is arbitrary, as no previous study has compared the treatment effect of hearing aids on tinnitus distress in patients with and without clinical hearing impairment. In this article, we investigate whether tinnitus patients with clinical and subcli

Heritage as Landscape Manicure – Questioning Idealized Historical Landscapes as a Model for Sustainability. The Example of Toarp Ecovillage in Sweden

When the ecovillage of Toarp was established in the peri-urban landscape of Malmö, Sweden, it was designed with inspiration from the historical regional landscape and its settlement forms. In the launching of the area the past was mirrored as more sustainable than the present. As demonstrated, the historical references in the planned and produced Toarp landscape are however made selectively and ra

Brownification in a small stream originating from a peatland - A case study from Ryds Å in south Sweden

Ryds Å är ett vattendrag i anslutning tBrownification refers to a process where the water turns browner due to increased levels of natural organic matter and iron, which poses environmental and human prosperity challenges. Lake Bolmen in south Sweden has issues with increasing water colour. Since the lake is water supply for 600,000 people, it is of great interest to find possible causes of the increased colour. Ryds Å is a stream orig

Were the most important election pledges fulfilled? An empirical investigation of the Swedish government’s pledge fulfillment after the 2014 parliamentary election

This thesis provides an account of the pledge-making and eventual pledge fulfilment of the Swedish government of 2014, which consisted of the Social Democratic Party and the Green Party. It is grounded in the theoretical approaches of the mandate model of representation and promissory representation. It explores whether the pledges these two parties made within issue areas that their voters identi

Beständigheten hos brandimpregnerat trä

This report explores the properties of fire-retardant treated wood. This report has investigated the permanence for this material as well as seeing if the process of accelerated aging, which are used to determine the life span of the material, can be comparable to natural aging. The methods used for this report have been a literature and interview study in addition to practical experiments. After
