The effect of secular galactic growth on the evolution of star clusters
Acoustical quality assessment of lecture halls at Lund University, Sweden
Noise control in buildings should aim at reducing disturbances caused by speech noise (i.e., improve speech privacy, speech intelligibility). Room acoustics can be controlled with high room absorption, high screens and bookcases, and sufficient masking sound. This research concerns as important aspect of room acoustic metrology, the ability to quantify the most relevant room acoustic parameters fo
Response to “Low-Level Cadmium Exposure and Bone Health”
Aging, DNA damage, and reproductive outcome
Due to increasing life expectancy and a number of social factors, at least in the Western world, an increasing proportion of men who are considered to belong to an “older age group” have the wish of becoming fathers. One of the reasons is that many women postpone their first pregnancy, which automatically leads to higher age of the potential fathers. Furthermore, divorce and building new families

Alpha1-microglobulin and bikunin in rats with collagen II-induced arthritis : plasma levels and liver mRNA content
The plasma proteins alpha1-microglobulin (alpha1-m) and bikunin are synthesized in the liver as a common precursor which is cleaved just before secretion. Half of plasma alpha1-m is covalently linked to fibronectin and alpha1-inhibitor-3, and more than 95% of bikunin is part of pre-alpha-inhibitor, inter-alpha-inhibitor and related large molecules. Both alpha1-m and bikunin have been shown to be i
The representation of evacuation movement in smoke-filled underground transportation systems
Limited guidance is available to engineers on how people's walking speed in smoke can and should be represented in the fire safety design process of underground transportation systems, such as road and rail tunnels. To address this issue, the behaviour and movement of people in case of evacuation due to a fire in underground transportation systems has been investigated. In this paper, the relation

Boxer's nose deformity as a complication in the course of acute myeloid leukaemia
A 44-year-old patient with acute myeloid leukaemia (M5 type) who developed a saddle nose deformity during aplasia of induction therapy is described. The diagnosis of an infectious perichondritis of the nasal septum was established by thorough examination and review of the literature.

Rightward and leftward head rotation influence the geometric features of the healthy carotid bifurcation
Posture changes may influence the geometry and hemodynamics of the carotid bifurcation [1]. As a result, head rotation may cause geometric changes that alter the hemodynamic variables previously cited to correlate with the development of atherosclerosis. Such variables include oscillating wall shear stress (WSS) and particle residence times. Glor et al. [1] had reported changes in the right caroti
Imaging in Vascular Access
This review examines four imaging modalities; ultrasound (US), digital subtraction angiography (DSA), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), that have common or potential applications in vascular access (VA). The four modalities are reviewed under their primary uses, techniques, advantages and disadvantages, and future directions that are specific to VA. Currently, US is th
Current and Emerging Technologies for Cardiovascular Imaging
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the western world. With the application of theoretical physics to the clinic, a variety of imaging technologies are available to the physician for diagnosing and accurately quantifying disease progression. These tools can influence how therapies are applied and impact patient outcome. Radiographic methods based on x-rays are used for diagnosi

Pair production of charged Higgs bosons in association with bottom quark pairs at the Large Hadron Collider
We study the process gg → bb̄H+H- at large tanβ, where it represents the dominant production mode of charged Higgs boson pairs in a Type II 2-Higgs doublet model, including the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The ability to select this signal would in principle enable the measurements of some triple-Higgs couplings, which in turn would help understanding the structure of the extended Higgs
The Buday'ah Formation, Sultanate of Oman : A Middle Permian to Early Triassic oceanic record of the Neotethys and the late Induan microsphere bloom
The Middle Permian to Lower Triassic Buday'ah section, exposed in the Oman Mountains, is the first deep-sea section to be described in the Neotethys. The oceanic sediments were deposited along the southern Tethys margin in the newly formed Hawasina Basin. It is one of the few places where true Tethyan Permian radiolarites are exposed that allow the documentation of CCD evolution through time. The
