Household composition and the infant fecal microbiome : The INSPIRE study

Objectives: Establishment and development of the infant gastrointestinal microbiome (GIM) varies cross-culturally and is thought to be influenced by factors such as gestational age, birth mode, diet, and antibiotic exposure. However, there is little data as to how the composition of infants' households may play a role, particularly from a cross-cultural perspective. Here, we examined relationships

Correlation between Soft X-ray Absorption and Emission Spectra of the Nitrogen Atoms within Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids

Soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) has been performed on the N K-edge of two imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([C 2 mim][TFSA]) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C 2 mim][Br]), to clarify the electronic structures of the ILs. Soft X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) has also been applied to the ILs by excitation at va

Cutting resistance of polymeric materials : Experimental and theoretical investigation

In the present paper, an experimental campaign is carried out with reference to the steady state propagation of an existing cut in polymeric plates, ranging from glassy to soft polymers. The steady state propagation is investigated by considering a commercial cutting tool under different insertion velocities of the blade. Full-field finite strain maps are experimentally recorded by means of digita

Temporal Variation of Ecosystem Scale Methane Emission From a Boreal Fen in Relation to Temperature, Water Table Position, and Carbon Dioxide Fluxes

We have analyzed decade-long methane flux data set from a boreal fen, Siikaneva, together with data on environmental parameters and carbon dioxide exchange. The methane flux showed seasonal cycle but no systematic diel cycle. The highest fluxes were observed in July–August with average value of 73 nmol m−2 s−1. Wintertime fluxes were small but positive, with January–March average of 6.7 nmol m−2 s

Gamma gamma interactions from real to virtual photons

A ‘complete’ framework for γγ/γ*γ/γ*γ* interactions is presented. The emphasis is on providing a model for γγ physics at all photon virtualities, including the difficult transition region Q2∼m2ρ.

Pretreatment with P2Y12 receptor antagonists in ST-elevation myocardial infarction : a report from the Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry

AIMS: Pretreatment of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) with P2Y12 receptor antagonists is supported by guidelines and is a common practice despite the lack of definite evidence for its benefit. METHODS AND RESULTS: Using data from the Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry on procedures between 2005 and 2016, we stratified all patients who underwent primary p

Structural basis for the unique ganglioside and cell membrane recognition mechanism of botulinum neurotoxin DC

Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs), the most potent toxins known, are potential bioterrorism agents. It is well established that all seven serotypes of BoNTs (BoNT/A-G) require complex gangliosides as co-receptors. Here, we report that BoNT/DC, a presumed mosaic toxin between BoNT/D and BoNT/C1, binds and enters efficiently into neurons lacking complex gangliosides and shows no reduction in toxicity in

Avbrutna upphandlingar : Ansvar i gränslandet mellan privat och offentlig rätt

The thesis addresses a practical problem that has recently emerged on the Swedish public procurement law agenda; the fact that a considerable number of initiated tender procedures are cancelled by the contracting authority. During the last decade, the number of cancelled tenders has increased yearly and in 2017 over 13 percent of the initiated procedures governed by the EU public procurement regul

The proportion of alveolar type 1 cells decreases in murine hypoplastic congenital diaphragmatic hernia lungs

Background Pulmonary hypoplasia, characterized by incomplete alveolar development, remains a major cause of mortality and morbidity in congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Recently demonstrated to differentiate from a common bipotent progenitor during development, the two cell types that line the alveoli type 1 and type 2 alveolar cells have shown to alter their relative ratio in congenital diaphragm

Continuous glucose monitoring in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes : an observational cohort study of 186 pregnancies

Aims/hypothesis: The aim of this study was to analyse patterns of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data for associations with large for gestational age (LGA) infants and an adverse neonatal composite outcome (NCO) in pregnancies in women with type 1 diabetes. Methods: This was an observational cohort study of 186 pregnant women with type 1 diabetes in Sweden. The interstitial glucose readings f

Risk factors for diarrhea among children in an industrialized country

BACKGROUND: Risk factors for childhood diarrhea in industrialized countries are not well characterized, although diarrhea remains an important cause of morbidity.METHODS: We conducted a case-control study of 422 cases and 866 controls over 22 months in Denmark. We selected cases among children under 5 years of age with diarrhea. Age-matched healthy controls were selected from the background popula

The BK parameter in the 1/Nc expansion

We calculate the BK parameter within the framework of the 1/Nc expansion. We essentially use the technique presented by Bardeen, Buras and Gérard but calculate an off-shell Green function in order to disentangle different contributions. We study this Green function in pure Chiral Perturbation Theory (CHPT) first and afterwards in the 1/Nc expansion in the presence of an explicit cut-off to determi
