The Political Dimension of Place Branding

Place branding is commonly understood as the application of marketing and commercial ideas, strategies, measurements and logic to the realm of places such as cities, regions and nations. Nevertheless, place branding is also understood as the locus where political activities – imbued with political impact and political effects – appear and affect the soft and hard infrastructures of urban agglomera

Reduced breast cancer mortality after 20+ years of follow-up in the Swedish randomized controlled mammography trials in Malmö, Stockholm, and Göteborg

Objective: To analyze the age- and trial-specific effects of the breast cancer screening trials with mammography in Malmö, Stockholm, and Göteborg. Methods: The original trial files were linked to the Swedish Cancer and Cause of Death Registers to obtain date of breast cancer diagnosis and date and cause of death. Relative risks and 95% confidence intervals were calculated using the evaluation mod

Non-invasive electrocardiographic predictors of atrial arrhythmias in patients with the Fontan palliation

Background: Fontan palliation patients are at risk for atrial arrhythmias post-operatively. This study aimed to evaluate whether differences in depolarization vector magnitude or spatial P-R angle can reliably predict atrial arrhythmias in patients who had undergone Fontan palliation. Methods: A total of 115 patients who had Fontan palliation and post-Fontan catheterization were included. Atrial a

Evaluation of the trust in physician scale (TIPS) of primary health care patients in north-east Poland : A preliminary study

Background. Trust is a complex concept, difficult to study, but very important in a patient-family physician relationship. One of the measures used to assess interpersonal trust is a scale developed by Anderson & Dedrick entitled the Trust in Physician Scale (TI PS). Objectives. The aim of the study was to assess the TI PS properties in relation to the age, gender, and health status of primary

Large Scale IP Survey at Önneslöv in Southern Sweden

A DCIP survey, i.e. a geoelectrical survey with combinedmeasurement of DC resistivity and induced polarization(IP), was conducted in southern Sweden. The purposewas to identify soil depth and bedrock structures andvariations in rock quality.Data were acquired data with 100% waveform fromwhich IP of good quality data were extracted. Theinverted model sections show a wide variation in theelectrical

Bacterial Pathogenesis : Methods and Protocols

This volume discusses various methods and protocols used for the experimentation of a wide range of bacterial species, such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumonia, Listeria monocytogenes, and Mycobacterium marinum. Bacterial Pathogens: Methods and Protocols is divided into 6 parts: Part 1 describes different approaches to identifying and characterizing bacterial

Triaxial rotation-axis flip triggered by an isoscalar np pair

We show that the rotation axis of a triaxial nucleus may flip from the intermediate axis (γ=-30) to the smallest axis (γ=+30) due to the polarization by an aligned T=0np pair. The example we discuss is the triaxial N=Z nucleus Ge64 where the isoscalar π(g9/2)- ν(g9/2) pair aligns to iπ=9+ in As66 and flips the rotation from γ≈-30 to γ≈30. Calculations are performed in the spherical shell model as

Nucleolin is a nuclear target of heparan sulfate derived from glypican-1

The recycling, S-nitrosylated heparan sulfate (HS) proteoglycan glypican-1 releases anhydromannose (anMan)-containing HS chains by a nitrosothiol-catalyzed cleavage in endosomes that can be constitutive or induced by ascorbate. The HS-anMan chains are then transported to the nucleus. A specific nuclear target for HS-anMan has not been identified. We have monitored endosome-to-nucleus trafficking o

Advancements of 2D speckle tracking of arterial wall movements

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. In order to improve the diagnostics and facilitate early interventions of cardiovascular diseases, knowledge about the physiology of the vascular system in both healthy subjects and in subjects with vascular disease is needed. In order to learn more about the physiology of the vascular system and possibly predict cardiovascular dise

A pilot study on the applicability of thromboelastometry in detecting brain tumour-induced hypercoagulation

Patients with intracranial tumours have an increased risk of venous thromboembolism, particularly during the first month after neurosurgery. A proposed explanation for this increased risk, are procoagulant tumour-derived substances, such as tissue factor, usually measured in peripheral blood. The aim of the present study is to investigate whether a rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) can measure
