From grassroots commons in crisis to urban, public places? The Swedish People's parks in the long downturn of organized labor

Seemingly neglected post-industrial spaces have often become crucial assets for movements seeking to inscribe new commons and public places in the urban fabric. Appropriating abandoned "Brachen" landscape or older factory complexes has allowed movements a foothold to build an urban world that is theirs. However, also movements clearly connected to industrialization, most notably the labor movement

Integrating digital technologies in agriculture for climate change adaptation and mitigation : State of the art and future perspectives

Agriculture faces a major challenge in meeting the world’s growing demand for food in a sustainable manner in the face of increasing environmental pressures, in particular the growing impact of climate change. Agriculture is also a major contributor to climate change. Digital technologies in agriculture can contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation. This paper examines the interaction

Quality of Life After Orthognathic Surgery in Swedish Patients : A Register-Based Cohort

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of orthognathic surgery on quality of life among Swedish patients.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients subjected to orthognathic surgery due to dentofacial deformity (DFD) and registered in the National Register of Orthognathic Surgery (NROK) in Sweden between 2017 and 2020 were eligible for inclusion in this study. The Swedish-validated Orthognathic Q

Futuristic Approach to Energy in Smart Cities

The concept of smart cities is an emergence and essential need for the today’s world. The development of new smart cities and conversion of existing cities require a broad understanding of the things to be followed and kept in mind during transformation. Under the present chapter, the vision of the smart city is explained by discussing the variety of parameters. It has been observed that to create

A Generalized Methodology for Health Index Calculation for PMSM Drive System

This paper mainly discussed the motor and converters' health indexing. The health index gives the idea about the present condition or age compared to the healthy system. The objective of this paper is to present the health index (HI) calculation method for PMSM and converters to identify the real-time health of the device. There are many articles available for the transformer health index calculat

Anion exchange membranes based on poly(oxindole biphenylene) grafted with hydroxyl and quaternary ammonium groups for alkaline water electrolysis

Utilizing green hydrogen produced by water electrolysis offers a viable strategy to mitigate the global energy crisis. In the present work, a high-performance, readily synthesized, and cost-effective anion exchange membrane (AEM) for alkaline water electrolyzers has been developed and studied. Glycidyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (GTA) was grafted onto poly(oxindole biphenylene) (POB) through

The psychosocial impact of prostate cancer screening for BRCA1 and BRCA2 carriers

Objectives: To report the long-term outcomes from a longitudinal psychosocial study that forms part of the ‘Identification of Men with a genetic predisposition to ProstAte Cancer: Targeted Screening in men at higher genetic risk and controls’ (IMPACT) study. The IMPACT study is a multi-national study of targeted prostate cancer (PrCa) screening in individuals with a known germline pathogenic varia

Haplotype analysis identifies functional elements in monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance

Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) based on common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have identified several loci associated with the risk of monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS), a precursor condition for multiple myeloma (MM). We hypothesized that analyzing haplotypes might be more useful than analyzing individual SNPs, as it could identify functional chromosomal units

Students’ concept development of limits

Students’ learning developments of limits were studied in a calculus course. Theiractions, such as problem solving and reasoning, were considered traces of theirmental representations of concepts and were used to describe the developmentsduring a semester. Several students went through the course with a vague conception of limits which in some cases was wrong. A higher awareness about their mental

Learning analysis: Students’ starting point

Most concepts taught in a basic analysis course at university are somewhatfamiliar to the students. They use their representations from prior experiences toform new knowledge about the concepts. Fifteen students’ were examined at thebeginning of a basic university course in analysis. Their pre-knowledge wassometimes vague and even wrong, often due to intuitive perceptions.

Conceptual change and connections in analysis

The paper presents a work in progress which is part of a larger study. Studentslearning analysis was investigated with the aim to find out how their concept images changed from the beginning of an analysis course to a year after the course. Their links between concepts were studied after the year had passed. The influence of the students’ pre-knowledge was durable and sometimes prevented students

Prospective teachers’ conceptions of analysis and beliefs about their impending profession

A group of pre-service teachers were studied from two social practices, as teachers and as students. Their perceptions of mathematics concepts and beliefs about the mathematics teacher role were studied through questionnaires, interviews and classroom observations. Three students were selected as cases in this paper where their links between the concepts limits, derivatives, integrals and continui

Physics teaching and the role of mathematics in Swedish upper-secondary school

The aim of this three-year study is to further contribute to the understanding of how relations between Reality – Theoretical models – Mathematics are communicated in Swedish upper-secondary physics. A developed analytical framework (Hansson, Hansson, Juter, & Redfors, 2015; 2019) is used to focus the analysis of the classroom communication on relations made (by teachers and students) between
