An inter-day assessment of the ABC parameters in the evaluation of progressive keratoconus

The progression of keratoconus is commonly determined by comparing the results of corneal tomographic measurements on different occasions. However, investigations on the repeatability of measurements are commonly performed within the same day, thus not taking the inter-day variation into account. The effect of keratoconus disease severity on the measurement error is also seldom considered. In this

Structural stability and artificial buckling modes in topology optimization

This paper demonstrates how a strain energy transition approach can be used to remove artificial buckling modes that often occur in stability constrained topology optimization problems. To simulate the structural response, a nonlinear large deformation hyperelastic simulation is performed, wherein the fundamental load path is traversed using Newton’s method and the critical buckling load levels ar

Ezrin is a novel protein partner of aquaporin-5 in human salivary glands and shows altered expression and cellular localization in sjögren’s syndrome

Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) is an exocrinopathy characterized by the hypofunction of salivary glands (SGs). Aquaporin-5 (AQP5); a water channel involved in saliva formation; is aberrantly dis-tributed in SS SG acini and contributes to glandular dysfunction. We aimed to investigate the role of ezrin in AQP5 mislocalization in SS SGs. The AQP5–ezrin interaction was assessed by immuno-precipitation and p

Acknowledging transcendental experiences of female martial artists in Japan

This paper illustrates the transcendental experiences of women who engage in hegemonic masculine spaces such as kendo in Japan. In spite of certain inequalities, women experience unprecedented autonomy and profound personal satisfaction in the dynamic self-expression of their identities in the dojo.

Breaking inversion symmetry by protonation : Experimental and theoretical NEXAFS study of the diazynium ion, N2H+

As an example of symmetry breaking in NEXAFS spectra of protonated species we present a high resolution NEXAFS spectrum of protonated dinitrogen, the diazynium ion N2H+. By ab initio calculations we show that the spectrum consists of a superposition of two nitrogen 1s absorption spectra, each including a π∗ band, and a nitrogen 1s to H+ charge transfer band followed by a weak irregular progression

Investigation of the specificity and mechanism of action of the ULK1/AMPK inhibitor SBI-0206965

SBI-0206965, originally identified as an inhibitor of the autophagy initiator kinase ULK1, has recently been reported as a more potent and selective AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) inhibitor relative to the widely used, but promiscuous inhibitor Compound C/ Dorsomorphin. Here, we studied the effects of SBI-0206965 on AMPK signalling and metabolic readouts in multiple cell types, including hepa
