Moisture content prediction of rain-exposed wood: Test and evaluation of a simple numerical model for durability applications

Abstract in FrenchDecay-prediction models can be used to predict the service life of wooden components. However, knowledge of how the material climate, i.e. moisture content and material temperature, varies with time is required. A reliable material climate prediction model is therefore crucial in situations when measurements are not viable. The aim of this paper is to develop and assess the perfo

Health factors in the everyday life and work of public sector employees in Sweden.

Objective: The aim was to explore aspects of everyday life in addition to established risk factors and their relationship to subjective health and well-being among public sector employees in Sweden. Gainful employment impact on employees' health and well-being, but work is only one part of everyday life and a broader perspective is essential in order to identify health-related factors. Participa

Urban snowmelt and runoff in northern Sweden

Snowmelt and runoff in urban areas in Lulea, north Sweden, are discussed and compared with rural conditions. The uneven snow distribution in cities is quantified. Energy fluxes at the snow surface in different environments are estimated. It is shown that, mainly because of increased absorbed radiative energy in the snow, the daily melt is about 10 mm higher in the city than in rural environments.

SIMULATED DOSE REDUCTION BY ADDING ARTIFICIAL NOISE TO MEASURED RAW DATA: A VALIDATION STUDY.

The purpose of this study was to verify and validate a noise simulation tool called Dose Tutor (VAMP GmbH) in terms of level and texture of the simulated noise. By adding artificial noise to measured computed tomography (CT) raw data, a scan acquired with a lower dose (mAs) than the actual one can be simulated. A homogeneous polyethylene phantom and an anthropomorphic chest phantom were scanned fo

Enhanced sensory relearning after nerve repair by using repeated forearm anaesthesia: aspects on time dynamics of treatment

BACKGROUND: We describe a new principle for enhancing the effects of sensory re-education following nerve injury and repair. The outcome from nerve repair in adult patients is generally poor. One reason is the functional cortical reorganisation which always occurs because of axonal misdirection at the repair site. In healthy individuals selective anaesthesia of the forearm results in improved hand

Variables Associated with Repeated Suicide Attempt in a Criminal Justice Population.

The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with repeated suicide attempts among criminal justice clients examined for substance abuse using the Addiction Severity Index. Among suicide attempters (n = 1,404), repeaters (two or more attempts, n = 770) were compared to nonrepeaters. In logistic regression, repetition was associated with younger age, opioid analgesics, somatic medication

15 nm diameter InAs nanowire MOSFETs

InAs is an attractive channel material for III–V nanowire MOSFETs and early prototype high performance nanowire transistors have been demonstrated1. As the gate length is reduced, the nanowire diameter must be scaled quite aggressively in order to suppress short-channel effects2. However, a reduction in transconductance (gm) and drive current (ION) could be expected due to increased surface scatte
