Rudolf Kjellén: Nordic biopolitics before the welfare state
This article aims to contribute to the history of biopolitical thought through a more accurate understanding of the Swedish professor of political science Rudolf Kjellén considered both in his historical and political context. Kjellén coined the term ‘biopolitics’, as early as 1905, in a two-volume work entitled The Great Powers, and developed it even further in a 1916 book entitled The State as a

Steady-State Diffusion in Complex Amphiphilic Films
The relation between structure and diffusive transport at steady-state is investigated theoretically for amphiphilic systems. Amphiphilic systems typically show a large response to moderate changes in control parameters, such as temperature, osmotic pressure, and the presence of cosolvents and cosolutes. Such systems is therefore expected to show a local response in structure due to the transport
Stability Analysis of Continuous-Time Adaptive Control Systems
The stability properties of a fairly general continuous-time adaptive control scheme are analyzed. Sufficient conditions for $L^\infty $-stability in the presence of disturbances are given. The stability results are used to prove convergence of the process outputs in the disturbance-free case, without requiring any a priori stability assumptions.

Thermodynamical and biological aspects of laser-induced heat treatment in medicine
Abstract in UndeterminedHeat has for long been utilised as a therapeutic tool in medicine. Tumour diseases and vascular malformations can be treated by elevating the temperature to cytotoxic levels. Laser-induced heat treatment relies on the conversion into heat of light absorbed in the tissue. Mathematical models were used to calculate the light absorption distribution and the subsequent temperat

Functional activation of the frontal lobes. Regional cerebral blood flow findings in normals and in patients with frontal lobe dementia performing a word fluency test
The present study examined the utility of the Word Fluency Test (WFT) as a frontal-lobe-activating test in brain imaging. Regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) was measured during rest and during the WFT in 49 healthy volunteers and in 15 patients with frontal lobe dementia (FLD). The results showed a highly significant frontal lobe activation in 85% of the normal subjects. This finding was not rela

Do lighting control and user interface design matter to occupant behaviour? The case of optimal lighting use in non-residential buildings
Feedback rörande energianvändning har ofta använts för att förändra beteende, men effektiviteten hos detta tillvägagångssätt är mer ifrågasatt för apThe lowering of energy use from artificial lighting in buildings is vital to reaching the goal of reducing CO2 emissions. Hence, changes in individuals’ behaviours regarding lighting use have received increased attention. Feedback on energy use has often been used to change individuals’ behaviour. However, it is not clear to what extent this approach can be applied for non-residential buildings, w

The More the Merrier: Leveraging on the Bug Inflow to Guide Software Maintenance
Issue management, a central part of software maintenance, requires much effort for complex software systems. The continuous inflow of issue reports makes it hard for developers to stay on top of the situation, and the threatening information overload makes activities such as duplicate management, Issue Assignment (IA), and Change Impact Analysis (CIA) tedious and error-prone. Still, most practitio
