Efficacy and safety of liraglutide added to capped insulin treatment in subjects with type 1 diabetes : The adjunct two randomized trial

OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficacy and safety of liraglutide added to capped insulin doses in subjects with type 1 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A 26-week, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group trial enrolling 835 subjects randomized 3:1 receiving once-daily subcutaneous liraglutide (1.8, 1.2, and 0.6 mg) or placebo added to an individually capped total daily dose of insulin.

Beam Dynamics in the ESS Linac under the Influence of Monopole and Dipole HOMs

The European Spallation Source (ESS), planned to be operational in 2019, is anticipated to be the worlds most intense neutron source. The total beam power will be 5 MW. We focus on the impact of manufacturing errors on the beam quality. In particular we assess the emittance dilution which occurs due to Higher Order Modes (HOMs) excited at a harmonic of the bunch frequency. We also discuss some ali

Linking Services to Manufacturing Exports

In this paper we analyse the interplay between services and manufacturing. This is done through identifying and quantifying a direct link between manufacturing exports and the sales by service providers. For identification of this transmittance mechanism, with the help of highly detailed geographic data, we create a Localised Export Exposure (LEE) variable that captures the variation in demand for

Targeting human fear of large carnivores — Many ideas but few known effects

This paper reviews the peer-reviewed scientific literature on interventions aimed to reduce human fear of large carnivores in human-large carnivore conflicts. Based on psychological theories, a wide definition of fear was adopted, including fear as an emotion, as a perception and as an attitude. Four major categories of interventions were identified: information and education, exposure to animal a

Analog Integrated Audio Frequency Synthesizer

In this paper we present an audio synthesizer that creates audio signals, intended to be reproduced as sound by a loudspeaker. This paper details the design, implementation and verification of an analog, subtractive audio synthesizer. The synthesizer produces a variety of waveforms spanning approximately 3 octaves. The frequency is controlled by an external voltage and the harmonic content is regu

Correlating structure and electronic band-edge properties in organolead halide perovskites nanoparticles

After having emerged as primary contenders in the race for highly efficient optoelectronics materials, organolead halide perovskites (OHLP) are now being investigated in the nanoscale regime as promising building blocks with unique properties. For example, unlike their bulk counterpart, quantum dots of OHLP are brightly luminescent, owing to large exciton binding energies that cannot be rationaliz

Increased deposition of glycosaminoglycans and altered structure of heparan sulfate in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is characterized by aberrant deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) constituents, including glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), that may play a role in remodelling processes by influencing critical mediators such as growth factors. We hypothesize that GAGs may be altered in IPF and that this contribute to create a pro-fibrotic environment. The aim of this study was the

Mycobacteria Manipulate G-Protein-Coupled Receptors to Increase Mucosal Rac1 Expression in the Lungs

Mycobacterium bovis bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is currently the only approved vaccine against tuberculosis (TB). BCG mimics M. tuberculosis (Mtb) in its persistence in the body and is used as a benchmark to compare new vaccine candidates. BCG was originally designed for mucosal vaccination, but comprehensive knowledge about its interaction with epithelium is currently lacking. We used primary a

Spicing up Memories and Serving Nostalgias : Thematic Restaurants and Transnational Memories in East-Central European Borderland Cities

The article is a result of field studies on the transformations of multicultural heritage in the east-central European cities of Cracow, Wrocław, Lviv and Chernivtsi. In all these cities, a majority of the pre-war populations (and in Wrocław, practically all pre-war residents) disappeared as a result of WWII. After decades of silence imposed by the ruling communist elites, collective memories of t

Names and symbols for the transfermium elements

Revised recommendations for the names and symbols of the transfermium elements(atomic numbers 101-109) are presented along with the reasons for proposing them. The recommendations (ref. 1) of the Commission on Nomenclature of Inorganic Chemistry (CNIC) on the nomenclature of the transfermium elements (101-109, inclusive) were considered by the IUPAC Bureau at Guildford (UK) in September 1995. As a result of the various criticisms of the recommendations and theway that they had been processed, the Bureau decided to adopt the recommendations as provisional
