Replication of Oncology Randomized Trial Results using Swedish Registry Real World-Data: A Feasibility Study

Nationwide healthcare registries are potential important real-world data (RWD) sources for assessing drug effectiveness in oncology. However, it is unclear whether registry-derived RWD are suitable for clinical development. Read the paper at https://ascpt.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/cpt.2424

Comparison of the performances of survival analysis regression models for analysis of conception modes and risk of type-1 diabetes among 1985–2015 Swedish birth cohort

The goal is to examine the risk of conception mode-type-1 diabetes using different survival analysis modelling approaches and examine if there are differentials in the risk of type-1 diabetes between children from fresh and frozen-thawed embryo transfers. We aimed to compare the performances and fitness of different survival analysis regression models with the Cox proportional hazard (CPH) model u

Lund University is Sweden’s eighth most attractive employer, according to Academic Work

Employment agency Academic Work conduct the Young Professional Attraction Index (YPAI) survey annually, in close collaboration with polling firm Kantar. Their survey asks young people in various professional categories which employer they would most like to work for, and what makes an employer attractive. The aim of the study is to help companies and organisations to understand, attract and develo

Long-term outcome after ischemic stroke in relation to comorbidity – An observational study from the Swedish Stroke Register (Riksstroke)

Comorbidity in stroke is common, but comprehensive reports are sparse. We describe prevalence of comorbidity and the prognostic impact on mortality and functional outcome in a large national ischemic stroke cohort. New publication in SAGE Journals

Risk of being born preterm in offspring of survivors with childhood or adolescent central nervous system tumor in Sweden

An increasing number of patients with central nervous system (CNS) tumor could survive to reproductive age. However, it is largely unknown whether the history of CNS tumor might affect pregnancy outcome. We aimed to explore the risk of being born preterm among children of CNS tumor survivors. Gender influence on the bipolar disorder inpatient length of stay in Sweden, 2005–2014: A register-based study

The influence of gender on bipolar disorder is controversial and it is unclear if inpatient care differs between men and women. Here, we investigate for gender differences in the inpatient length of stay for Swedes admitted for bipolar disorder and explore other factors that could explain any observed association. New publication in Journal of Affective Disorders

Weight and height separated provide better understanding than BMI on the risk of revision after total knee arthroplasty: report of 107,228 primary total knee arthroplasties from the Swedish Knee Arthroplasty Register 2009–2017

Obesity defined as increased BMI is commonly associated with higher revision rates following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We examined the effect of BMI on the rate of revision after TKA, for both infection and other reasons, and analyzed weight and height separately to provide better understanding of the risk profile. New publication in Journal Acta Orthopaedica

Mortality patterns in long-term survivors of childhood or adolescent central nervous system tumour in Sweden

A growing number of young patients with central nervous system (CNS) tumour survived for more than five years. However, these long-term survivors might be at risk of multiple late effects thus leading to a higher risk of late mortality. We aimed to explore the risk of late mortality and the pattern of mortality among long-term survivors of childhood or adolescent CNS tumour. New publication in Spr

Geographical proximity and the transmission of drug abuse among siblings: evaluating a contagion model in a Swedish National Sample.

The best-fit model predicted risk for DA in S2 as a function of the log of kilometres between S1 and S2 with parameter estimates (±95% confidence intervals) of 0.94 (0.92; 0.95). Prediction of DA included effects of cohabitation and an interaction of proximity and time since S1 registration with stronger effects of proximity early in the follow-up period. Proximity effects were stronger for smalle

Swedish Inflammatory Bowel Disease Register (SWIBREG) – a nationwide quality register

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, inflammatory relapsing disease with increasing incidence. IBD research and long-term follow-up of patients have, however, been hampered by lack of detailed data on disease phenotype, patient-reported outcome measures, Physician Global Assessment, disease activity, and hospital-administered drugs. Investigating the Link between Transport Sustainability and the Representation of Women in Swedish Local Committees

There are large discrepancies in the transport sector along gender lines in travel patterns and means of transportation used, but also in attitudes and norms among citizens, planners and decision-makers, with women generally more positive towards measures involving the lowering CO2 emissions. At the same time, the number of women involved in transport-related decisions is low. New publication in S

Outcome in juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a population-based study from Sweden

The incidence of JIA in this well-defined, population-based cohort is slightly lower than in previously published studies from Scandinavia. The need for orthopedic surgery and the presence of uveitis are diminished compared to studies with patients diagnosed more than 20 years ago. Children with JIA however still experience disease activity more than 50% of the time. In conclusion, we still have l

Accumulated neighbourhood deprivation and coronary heart disease: a nationwide cohort study from Sweden

The effect of neighbourhood deprivation on CHD might depend on age. Accounting for individuals’ baseline age may therefore be important for understanding neighbourhood environmental effects on the development of CHD over time. However, because of high correlation of neighbourhood deprivation over time, single-point-in-time assessments may be adequate for CHD risk prediction especially in older adu

Association of preterm birth with lipid disorders in early adulthood: A Swedish cohort study

Persons born prematurely may need early preventive evaluation and long-term monitoring for lipid disorders to reduce their future cardiovascular risks. New publication in PLOS Medicine
