On methods for pattern recognition with application to epileptic electroencephalograms
EtThe thesis treats methods for pattern recognition in multichannel electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, for application to diagnostics of epilepsy. Parts I-IV treat methods for feature extraction and clustering of EEG spikes, occurring between epileptic seizures, and part V presents a method for filtering seizure onset EEG signals. In part I, Hermite functions are used for parametric description of

Purification of IgD from human serum - A novel application of recombinant M. catarrhalis IgD-binding protein (MID).
Moraxella catarrhalis IgD-binding protein (MID) is a multimeric outer membrane protein belonging to the family of autotransporters. The IgD-binding domain of MID is located between amino acids MID 962-1200 and binds to amino acids 198-224 of the IgD C(H)1 region. In the present study, we describe a method to purify IgD from serum with high levels of IgD using a two-step affinity chromatography pro

Prediction of subjective response from objective measurements applied to walking sound
This paper discusses prediction of the subjective response to walking sound - also called drum sound - based on differences in objective measurements. 'Walking sound' refers to the sound heard when someone is walking in the same room as the listener. Walking sound has attracted interest in recent years, particularly due to an increased use of thin floating floor constructions, such as veneer or la

World Christianity and Inter-Religious Relations: Missionsvetenskap med Ekumenik:
The article discusses contemporary trends in the Mission and Ecumenical Studies in the context of World Christianity and Inter-Religious Relations. It engages with late 20th century scholarship, particularly relating to Christianity in Africa and Asia, and interacts with the paradigm-analysis of Mission Studies as advanced by David.J.Bosch in his Transforming Mission: Paradigm Shifts in Theology o
Permeability and mass transfer as a function of the cooking temperature during the frying of beefburgers
Intrinsic permeability of water in beefburgers made of different meat raw materials cooked at 50 degrees C, 60 degrees C, 70 degrees C and 80 'C was measured using an air-driven pressure cell, and it was found to be in the range of 6.8 x 10(-18) m(2) to 1.6 x 10(-16) m(2) for the temperature ranging from 50 degrees C to 80 degrees C. The highest permeability value was found in beefburgers prepared

Helicity dependence of the gamma p -> N pi channels and multipole analysis in the Delta region
A high-quality double-polarization data set for the helicity dependence of the total and differential cross-sections for both gammap --> Npi channels in the Delta region has been obtained in the framework of the GDH experiment. The experiment, performed at the Mainz microtron MAMI, used a 4pi detection system, a circularly polarized photon beam, and a longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target. T

Direct hospital costs of chest pain patients attending the emergency department: a retrospective study
BACKGROUND: Chest pain is one of the most common complaints in the Emergency Department (ED), but the cost of ED chest pain patients is unclear. The aim of this study was to describe the direct hospital costs for unselected chest pain patients attending the emergency department (ED). METHODS: 1,000 consecutive ED visits of patients with chest pain were retrospectively included. Costs directly foll
Asymptotic normality of triad counts in random digraphs
Triad counts for directed graphs are represented as numerators of incomplete U-statistics with symmetric or asymmetric kernels. Asymptotic normality for the simultaneous distribution of all triad counts is proved. Applications are given to investigations of inconsistency in tournaments and reliability of communication networks.
Genetic polymorphisms influencing arsenic metabolism: evidence from Argentina.
The susceptibility to arsenic-induced diseases differs greatly between individuals, possibly due to interindividual variations in As metabolism that affect retention and distribution of toxic metabolites. To elucidate the role of genetic factors in As metabolism, we studied how polymorphisms in six genes affected the urinary metabolite pattern in a group of indigenous women (n = 147) in northern A

Persistence of plasmid RP4 in Pseudomonas putida and loss of its expression of antibiotic resistance in a groundwater microcosm
We examined the stability of plasmid RN and its expression of antibiotic-resistance genes in suspended and sorbed Pseudomonas putida in aquifer microcosms. Test tubes containing different proportions of sterilized aquifer soil and groundwater were inoculated with bacteria and incubated for up to 26 d. Serial dilutions were made to agar plates with or without antibiotics, to quantify the functional
