Shelter for the Urban Poor - Proposals for Improvements Inspired by World Urban Forum III

This report is a compilation of papers written by architects, engineers and planners from Africa, Asia and Latin America, involved in housing and urban development with a focus on the urban poor. The papers present projects for change and improvements within the frame of an inter-national training programme offered by Housing Development and Management (HDM) Lund University, carried out in conjunc

Bildning och nöje. Bidrag till studiet av de svenska blåsmusikkårerna under 1800-talets senare hälft

During the latter part of the 19th century a large number of civilian wind bands, spread over a wide geographical area, developed in Sweden. The general section of this thesis describes the beginning of a transformation of the Swedish society into a more urbanized society. The new musical culture which arose among the people – the ”urban-popular” music culture – is brought into focus. The backgrou

Internal oxygen transport to below-ground parts: importance for emergent macrophytes

Övervattensväxter har rötterna i vattendränThis thesis examines factors regulating growth and distribution of emergent plants with focus on effects of oxygen supply to the roots. Greenhouse experiments revealed that P. australis acclimatizes to specific water depths with phenotypic plasticity. These phenotypic responses act to increase growth at specific water depths but may result in decreased tolerance to changed water depth. Oxygen nee

Experiments with Haptic Perception in a Robotic Hand

This paper describes a robotic hand, LUCS Haptic Hand I, that has been built as a first step in a project aiming at the study haptic perception. Grasping tests with the hand were done with different objects, and the signal patterns from the sensors were studied and analyzed. The results suggest that LUCS Haptic Hand I provides signal patterns that are possible to categorize. Certain higher-level p

Managers’ strategic decision processes in large organizations

In this study we investigated how managers make strategical decisions in complex, dynamic, and real-time environments and in different decision domains. The managers we interviewed were usually ‘in charge’ of the tasks. Our results show that the informants in the decision processes communicated with other persons, within and outside the organization, about the decision alternative/s and that these
