Nonlinear Optics Studies on the MAX IV Storage Rings
The MAX IV Laboratory in Lund, Sweden, houses two electron storage rings operating at the energies 1.5, and 3 GeV. Both of these produce high-brilliance synchrotron radiation for beamline users. While the 1.5 GeV storage ring is a conventional third generation storage ring, employing a double-bend achromat structure, the MAX IV 3 GeV ring is the first realised fourth generation synchrotron. This r

Toward Effective Collaborations between Regional Climate Modeling and Impacts-Relevant Modeling Studies in Polar Regions
The aim of this workshop was to discuss the needs and challenges in using high-resolution climate model outputs for impacts-relevant modeling. Development of impacts-relevant climate projections in the polar regions requires effective collaboration between regional climate modelers and impacts-relevant modelers in the design stage of high-resolution climate projections for the polar regions.
Design and implementation of the European-Mediterranean Postgraduate Programme on Organ Donation and Transplantation (EMPODaT) for Middle East/North Africa countries
This prospective study reports the design and results obtained after the EMPODaT project implementation. This project was funded by the Tempus programme of the European Commission with the objective to implement a common postgraduate programme on organ donation and transplantation (ODT) in six selected universities from Middle East/North Africa (MENA) countries (Egypt, Lebanon and Morocco). The co
Core-shell excitation of isoxazole at the C, N, and O K-edges - an experimental NEXAFS and theoretical TD-DFT study
The near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of the gas-phase isoxazole molecule have been measured by collecting total ion yields at the C, N, and O K-edges. The spectral structures have been interpreted using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) with the short-range corrected SRC2-BLYP exchange-correlation functional. Experimental and calculated energies of core ex
Measuring Inflation Expectations in Interwar Britain
What caused the recovery from the British Great Depression? A leading explanation – the ‘expectations channel’ – suggests that a shift in expected inflation lowered real interest rates and stimulated consumption and investment. However, few studies have measured, or tested the economic consequences of, inflation expectations. In this paper, we collect high-frequency information from primary and se
α-Synuclein-induced deformation of small unilamellar vesicles
Abstract α-Synuclein is a small neuronal protein that reversibly associates with lipid membranes. The membrane interactions are believed to be central to the healthy function of this protein involved in synaptic plasticity and neurotransmitter release. α-Synuclein has been speculated to induce vesicle fusion as well as fission, processes which are analogous to each other but proceed in different d

Incidence of Aphasia in Ischemic Stroke
Introduction: A decrease in ischemic stroke (IS) incidence has been observed in high income countries during the last decades. Whether this has influenced the occurrence of aphasia in IS is uncertain. We therefore examined the incidence rate and potentially related determinants of aphasia in IS. Methods: We prospectively examined consecutive patients admitted to hospital with first-ever acute IS b

Can Collaborative housing foster the housing-integration nexus? Tensions and synergies in case studies from Sweden and Switzerland
There is a need of problematizing taken for granted assumptions in the conceptualization of collaborative housing when attempting to link collaborative housing and social integration. What are the difficulties and opportunities that migrants and non-migrants face in accessing collaborative housing projects? Addressing such type of questions will help to capture exclusionary processes affecting old
Collaborative housing as a socio-spatial system from a critical realism perspective. Can unintended consequences be understood as causal mechanisms?
Holism, abduction and causality are ways of reasoning that can complement each other to enable better understanding of contemporary wicked problems. Current social challenges include a global housing crisis, unwanted isolation and polarized societies. Systems thinking is instrumental to zoom out a specific phenomenon in an attempt to capture the complexity of reality. It also provides a holistic v
Collaborative Housing: A tool for social integration and increased sustainability
All over the world there is a shortage of adequate, affordable housing that enables social integration and sustainability. Many individuals and households have access to housing but live in different kinds of involuntary isolation with respect to age, gender, income, culture and ethnic background. There is a lack of housing forms that can contribute to solving these societal challenges through dif
Young children’s learning about lighting and turn-off behaviour in preschool environments
In the promotion of energy efficiency in educational facilities, preschool children play an important role since simple energy-saving behaviour can be developed in early childhood. This study aimed to investigate the effects of behaviour interventions, with a particular focus on preschool children’s turn-off behaviour in shared environments. The intervention tools i.e. digital game, paper-board ga
Practical design space exploration
Multi-objective optimization is a crucial matter in computer systems design space exploration because real-world applications often rely on a trade-off between several objectives. Derivatives are usually not available or impractical to compute and the feasibility of an experiment can not always be determined in advance. These problems are particularly difficult when the feasible region is relative
