Prosodic Phrasing in Spontaneous Swedish

Popular Abstract in Swedish Den här studien behandlar prosodisk frasering. De spelOne of the most important functions of prosody is to divide the flow of speech into chunks. The chunking, or prosodic phrasing, of speech plays an important role in both the production and perception of speech. This study represents a move away from the laboratory speech examined in previous, related studies on prosodic phrasing in Swedish, since a spontaneous, Southern Swedish speech material is

Housing standards, environmental barriers in the home, and subjective general apprehension of housing situation among the rural elderly.

The aim of this study was to describe housing standards, physical environmental barriers in the homes and housing accessibility in relation to elderly people’s subjective general apprehension of their housing situation. By means of a novel instrument for home assessments, the Enabler, a rural population sample of individuals aged 75-84 years was surveyed. The results demonstrated that the responde

Theoretical oscillator strengths and hyperfine structure in HgII

We present a theoretical model ion for Hg II, including oscillator strengths and hyperfine structure constants for a large number of transitions and levels. Different computational models have been used, depending on the observability of the lines and their importance in spectral synthesis of stellar atmospheres. For the resonance lines, we use highly systematic, accurate, and fully relativistic m

Antagonism of thromboxane receptor induced contractions in isolated human groin lymphatics

In vitro studies were performed on lymphatics obtained from the groin in 19 patients undergoing vascular surgery. The lymphatics were mounted in tissue baths, and isometric contractions were induced by increasing concentrations of the thromboxane A2 (TXA2) mimetic U-46619. In comparison to K+ (124mM)-induced contraction, which were used as an internal standard, the response to U-46619 had an Emax

Polychlorinated biphenyls in the air of southern Sweden - spatial and temporal variation

Polychlorinated biphenyls in the lower atmosphere were studied over a regional area covering approximately 11000 km(2) in southern Sweden. Sampling were performed in 1992-1993, continuously during one year, where samples from 11 sampling-sites (in all 260 samples) were analysed. PCB concentrations ranged over two order of magnitudes, 7-983 pg m(-3). Differences in PCB concentrations among the samp

Concentration-dependent effects of native and polymerised alpha 1-antitrypsin on primary human monocytes, in vitro

Background: alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT) is one of the major serine proteinase inhibitors controlling proteinases in many biological pathways. There is increasing evidence that AAT is able to exert other than antiproteolytic effects. To further examine this question we compared how various doses of the native (inhibitory) and the polymerised (non- inhibitory) molecular form of AAT affect pro-inflammat

A Survey of Reservation-Based Scheduling

A survey of reservation-based CPU scheduling, developed as a part of the VINNOVA project FISS2 and of the EU project ACTORS The field of Reservation-based scheduling is presented. A brief history is given together with an in-depth look at the main classes of reservation-based scheduling algorithms. An overview of important publicly available implementations of reservation-based schedulers is prov

Life span extension and reduced neuronal death after weekly intraventricular cyclosporin injections in the G93A transgenic mouse model of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Object. The authors investigated whether cyclosporin A (CsA), a cyclophilin ligand with mitochondrial permeability transition pore-blocking and calcineurin-inhibiting properties, affects motor function, neuronal death, and life span in the G93A transgenic mouse model of familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (FALS). Methods. The G93A mice received weekly intracerebroventricular injections of CsA (

Human granulocytic ehrlichiosis - A clinical case in Scandinavia

A clinical case of human granulocytic ehrlichiosis in Scandinavia is presented. The patient developed high fever, myalgia, headache and dyspnoea. Doxycycline treatment resulted in a dramatic improvement. Laboratory confirmation Included a fourfold change in anti-Ehrlichia equi IFA titre and a positive PCR confirmed by gene sequence analysis.

Phase separation in polyelectrolyte gels interacting with surfactants of opposite charge

Macroscopic phase separation in covalent sodium polyacrylate (PA) networks following the absorption of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide/chloride (CTAB/C) from aqueous solutions is studied experimentally and theoretically. The gels are shown to consist of a solvent-swollen polyelectrolyte network (core), surrounded by a dense surface phase (skin) of polyion/surfactant complexes. The effect of core sw

Interactions of papaya proteinase IV with inhibitors

Papaya proteinase IV (PPIV) is not inhibited by chicken cystatin, or human cystatins A or C, unlike most other proteinases of the papain superfamily. The enzyme inactivates chicken cystatin and human cystatin C by limited proteolysis of the glycyl bond previously shown to be involved in the inhibitory inactivity of the cystatins, but has no action on cystatin A. Contamination of commercial crystal

Adult skeletal profile in isolated cleft palate: a comparison of the von Langenbeck and Wardill procedures for primary repair of the palate

Sixty-four adult patients operated on for isolated cleft palate were evaluated with regard to facial skeletal morphology using conventional radio-cephalometry. Dental occlusion was assessed clinically. Forty-two had had a von Langenbeck repair at the age of 7 months and 22 a Wardill repair at 18 months. The mean error of the method was 0.7 degree for angular, and 0.9 mm for linear, measurements. T

School nurses' view of schoolchildren's health and their attitudes to document it in the school health record - a pilot study.

This study highlights school nurses' view of schoolchildren's health and their attitude to document it in the school health records. A strategic sample of 12 school nurses was interviewed. The interviews were semistructured and analysed with qualitative content analysis. The findings showed that the school nurses' viewed schoolchildren as physical healthy although they called attention to growing

Early Evaluation of Software Process Change Proposals

Software process improvement involves evaluation of process change proposals, and it is important to evaluate changes as early as possible. A process impact analysis method for interview based evaluation of change proposals is presented. It is based on the subjective opinions of people in the organisation, and it is carried out in three steps. In the first step, the impact on sub-processes is est

Structural characterization of micellar aggregates in sodium dodecyl sulfate/aluminum nitrate/urea/water system in the synthesis of mesoporous alumina

The mechanism of templated synthesis of ordered mesoporous alumina according to the recipe proposed by Yada et al. (Yada, M.; Machida, M.; Kijima, T. Chem. Commun. 1996, 769) using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as template, has been investigated by NMR self-diffusion and spin and fluorescence probe techniques. In the precursor solutions urea was found to produce a substantial shortening of the long

Polygalacturonic acid/endo-polygalacturonase system: A kinetic study in batch reactors

The enzymatic depolymerization of the pectic substance polygalacturonic acid (PGA) is studied in batch reactor. The number-average molecular weight of native substrate is estimated, using a simple and quick technique, to be approximately 11.1 kDa, the polymeric chains consisting on average of 63 galacturonic acid units. The effect of enzyme concentration was studied varying biocatalyst loading fro

Review of Kaspar von Greyerz, Religion und Kultur. Europa 1500-1800.
