Stark Effect Investigation of the Third Excited ^(2)P_(3/2) Levels in the First Spectra of Rb 87 and Cs 133

Using the level crossing technique with parallel magnetic and electric fields the tensor polarizability of the 7 p 2 P 3/2 level in Rb 87 and the 8 p 2 P 3/2 level in Cs 133 was measured with the results α 2 (7 p 2 P 3/2 Rb 87 ) = -3.2 (2) MHz (kV/cm) 2 and α 2 (8 p 2 P 3/2 Rb 133 ) = -7.6 (3) MHz (kV/cm) 2 Theoretical values, calculated with the Coulomb approximation of Bates and Damgaard, agre

Evidentiality in Akha

In the Akha language - a Tibeto-Burman language - marking of evidentiality is obligatory. The evidential system marks whether a statement is based on factual knowledge or inferred from seeing, hearing or feeling. The presentations start with a theoretical model by Kaufmann, distinguishing two types of creativity, proactive versus reactive, important when dealing with the goal of innovative activity. The next contribution, made by Hoff, empirically investigates in school children the importance for creativity of differences in imaginativeness, when facing competition or not. As regards another factor, feedb

Modelling Social Mobility in Rural Tamil Nadu

This is a study of social mobility over 25 years in six villages in the former Tiruchy District in Tamil Nadu. The two most important external drivers are local industrialization and social policy in a broad sense. Analyzing mobility matrices by means of regression techniques, it is shown that the overall effect is a centripetal tendency in agrarian structure, with tendencies towards a strengthene
