Neuronal and non-neuronal catechol-O-methyltransferase in primary cultures of rat brain cells

Previous biochemical and histochemical studies have suggested that catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) is a predominantly glial enzyme in the brain. The aim of this work was to study its localization and molecular forms in primary cultures, where cell types can be easily distinguished with specific markers. COMT immunoreactivity was studied in primary astrocytic cultures from newborn rat cerebral

Kinetics of human soluble and membrane-bound catechol O- methyltransferase : A revised mechanism and description of the thermolabile variant of the enzyme

Human soluble (S) and membrane-bound (MB) catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT, EC 2.1.1.6) enzymes have been expressed at sufficiently high levels in Escherichia coil and in baculovirus-infected insect cells to allow kinetic characterization of the enzyme forms. The use of tight-binding inhibitors such as entacapone enabled the estimation of actual enzyme concentrations and, thereby, comparison of

Distribution of catechol-O-methyltransferase enzyme in rat tissues

In the present study we show the distribution of catechol-O- methyltransferase (COMT) in various rat tissues with a highly specific antiserum prepared against recombinant rat COMT. Immunoprecipitation and immunocytochemical controls confirmed the COMT-specificity of the antibodies. The antiserum detected both the 24 KD soluble and the 28 KD membrane-bound forms of the enzyme. By immunohistochemica

Hardware architecture for matrix factorization in MIMO receivers

This paper presents the hardware realization of the factorization algorithm required in a MIMO OFDM receiver to make the detection and decoding a non-orthogonal space-time code. Requirements of a real scenario represented by the standard IEEE 802.11n for WLAN have been analyzed and exploited to draw out the specifications of the proposed implementation. A very high throughput hardware realization

Practitioners' Expectations on Development Processes

The software process is important for learning in software engineering. Experience from earlier projects is transferred to later projects through the process. This type of experience is important for all practitioners, but work with software process improvement (SPI) is in many cases only carried out by management. We report from an interview study where practitioners have been interviewed about t

A priori estimates on the partial realized gain of UWB-antennas

A summation rule valid for a large class of linear and reciprocal antennas is presented in terms of the electric and magnetic polarizability dyadics. The identity is based on the holomorphic properties of the forward scattering dyadic and includes arbitrary shaped antennas modeled by linear and time-translational invariant constitutive relations. In particular, a priori estimates on the partial re

Parameter Selection in the Parameter Estimation of Grade Transitions in a Polyethylene Plant

A polyethylene plant at Borealis AB is modelled in the Modelica language and considered for parameter estimations at grade transitions. Parameters have been estimated for both the steady-state and the dynamic case using the JModelica.org platform, which offers tools for steady-state parameter estimation and supports simulation with parameter sensitivies. The model contains 31 candidate parameters,

Environmental effects of ozone depletion and its interactions with climate change: progress report, 2015

The Environmental Effects Assessment Panel (EEAP) is one of three Panels that regularly informs the Parties (countries) to the Montreal Protocol on the effects of ozone depletion and the consequences of climate change interactions with respect to human health, animals, plants, biogeochemistry, air quality, and materials. The Panels provide a detailed assessment report every four years. The most re

Method And Arrangement For Detecting Particles

The present invention relates to a method for detecting particles and a particle sensor arrangement. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and arrangement for detecting particles in a gas flow, e.g. from a diesel combustion engine. The method comprises the steps of; forcing a ... ...

A Methodology for Measurements of Basic Parameters in a xDSL System

In order to qualify a subscriber loops for xDSL transmission, basic parameters like transfer function, scattering parameter S11 and characteristic impedance should be known. The aim of this paper is to present a test methodology for measurements of these basic parameters. The characteristic impedance is measured by open/short method and it is compared with the terminated measurement method defined

Compensatory mechanisms associated with the hyperdynamic function of phospholamban-deficient mouse hearts

Phospholamban ablation is associated with significant increases in the sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase activity and the basal cardiac contractile parameters. To determine whether the observed phenotype is due to loss of phospholamban alone or to accompanying compensatory mechanisms, hearts from phospholamban-deficient and age-matched wild-type mice were characterized in parallel. There were no
