Cdc42 is involved in PKCepsilon- and delta-induced neurite outgrowth and stress fibre dismantling.
We have shown that protein kinase C (PKC)epsilon, independently of the catalytic domain, induces outgrowth of cellular processes via its regulatory domain in both neural cells and fibroblasts. This was accompanied by stress fibre loss. Here, we have examined the role of the small GTPases, Rac1, and Cdc42, in these PKC-mediated morphological and cytoskeletal changes. Both constitutively active and
Alfonso of Jaén, His Life and Works with Critical Editions of the Epistola Solitarii, the Informaciones and the Epistola Serui Christi
The Spaniard Alfonso, Bishop of Jaén, was commissioned by St. Bridget of Sweden to prepare an edition of her Revelationes (the Liber Celestis). The present book gives an account of Alfonso's life and critical editions of three writings by him.

Optimizing Presence–Absence Surveys For Detecting Population Trends
Presence–absence surveys are a commonly used method for monitoring broad-scale changes in wildlife distributions. However, the lack of power of these surveys for detecting population trends is problematic for their application in wildlife management. Options for improving power include increasing the sampling effort or arbitrarily relaxing the type I error rate. We present an alternative, whereby
Effect of glibenclamide on membrane response to metabolic inhibition in smooth muscle of rat portal vein
Vascular smooth muscle tone is dependent on oxidative metabolism, a phenomenon of potential importance for the metabolic regulation of blood flow to tissues. The response of the rat portal vein to inhibition of cell respiration by cyanide (0.1-1 mM) is a reduction of its spontaneous myogenic activity. The trains of action potentials triggering phasic contractions are reduced in duration, while the

Differential activation by Ca2+, ATP and caffeine of cardiac and skeletal muscle ryanodine receptors after block by Mg2+
The block of rabbit skeletal ryanodine receptors (RyR1) and dog heart RyR2 by cytosolic [Mg2+], and its reversal by agonists Ca2+, ATP and caffeine was studied in planar bilayers. Mg2+ effects were tested at submaximal activating [Ca2+] (5 microM). Approximately one third of the RyR1s had low open probability ("LA channels") in the absence of Mg2+. All other RyR1s displayed higher activity ("HA ch
An integrated analysis of ergonomics and time consumption in Swedish "craft-type' car disassembly
Car disassembly is at the edge of extensive rationalisations due to increased legislative demands for recycling. This study focused on (1) assessing Current mechanical exposures (physical work loads) for comparison with future rationalised systems, with particular emphasis on time aspects, (2) analysing disassembly work in terms of time consumption and exposures in constituent tasks as defined by
Arkeologiska undersökningar och fornminnesinventeringen har visat att området hyser omfattande lämningar av neolitiska bebyggelsekomplex — i form av bosättningar, gravfält, megalitgThis dissertation deals with Early and Middle Neolithic societies in a valley landscape in western Scania, in the southern part of Sweden. Several archaeological excavations conducted by the National Heritage Board have revealed a great number of Neolithic remains in this region. The sites constitute a substantial continuous sequence from the earliest to the latest phase of the Funnel Beaker Cultu
Serum concentrations of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein, fibrinogen and hyaluronan distinguish inflammation and cartilage destruction in experimental arthritis in rats.
OBJECTIVES:We investigated if changes in serum/plasma fibrinogen (FIB), hyaluronan (HA) and cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) levels can be used to differentiate between inflammation and cartilage involvement during arthritis. METHODS:Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), oil-induced arthritis (OIA) and for comparison, experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE) induced in DA rats were investi

Review of Oloph Bexell, Präster i S:t Sigfrids stift 3. Minnesteckningar till prästmötet i Växjö stift 2002. Lund 2002
Morphology, structure, and electronic properties of Ce@C-82 films on Ag : Si(111)-(root 3x root 3)R30 degrees
The adsorption behaviour and electronic properties of Ce@C-82 molecules on the Ag: Si(l I I)-(root3 x root3)R30degrees surface have been studied using scanning tunnelling microscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy. Submonolayer coverages and multilayer films of Ce@C-82 comprise highly ordered molecular domains which have a single, well-defined orientation with respect to the underlying substrate cr
Inhibition effects of furfural on alcohol dehydrogenase, aldehyde dehydrogenase and pyruvate dehydrogenase.
The kinetics of furfural inhibition of the enzymes alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH; EC 1.1.1.1), aldehyde dehydrogenase (AlDH; EC 1.2.1.5) and the pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) complex were studied in vitro. At a concentration of less than 2 mM furfural was found to decrease the activity of both PDH and AlDH by more than 90%, whereas the ADH activity decreased by less than 20% at the same concentration.
Hepatic lipase activity increases after liver denervation in the rat
We have investigated the effects of hilar denervation of rat liver upon the activity of hepatic lipase determined in tissue extracts. Denervated animals had an enzyme activity of 7.89 +/- 0.37 mU/mg protein, compared to 6.45 +/- 0.43 in sham-operated controls (mean +/- S.E.; P less than 0.05). We conclude that hepatic innervation may contribute to the regulation of hepatic lipase activity.
