Measuring the extinction cross section
This paper describes a method to determine the extinction cross section for a very large bandwidth in the microwave region. The method is based on measurements of the radar cross section in the forward direction to calculate the extinction cross section. The method is applicable to samples of arbitrary shape and composition. Coherent background subtraction and time domain gating is used for the fr
Electrical Machine Design with Directly Cooled Laminated Fractional Pitch Windings
A directly cooled winding in an electrical machine is an appealing solution for a traction application when the electrical machine is operating near peak power for extended periods of time. This directly cooled winding is based on a laminated structure where the power losses in the conducting strips are instantly dissipated by an air-flow between the strips. As an outcome, the hottest component of
Numerical analysis of uncertainties in dual frequency bone ultrasound technique
Abstract in Undetermined Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) measurements are used in the diagnostics of osteoporosis. However, the variation in the thickness and composition of the overlying soft tissue causes significant errors to the bone QUS parameters and diminishes the reliability of the technique in vivo. Recently, the dual frequency ultrasound (DFUS) technique was introduced to minimize the erro

Frequency and Intensity of Alcohol Consumption: New Evidence from Sweden
This paper provides an extensive analysis of the demand for alcohol in terms of total quantity and quantity subdivided into frequency and intensity demand. The analysis compares across alcohol types (beer, wine and spirits), alcohol drinking pattern (average drinker vs. binge drinkers) and also how these decisions differ across gender. The analysis is based on a large sample of cross-sectional dat

Admittance Matching of 60 GHz Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antennas for Integrated Impulse Radio
Methods to achieve admittance matching of rectangular dielectric resonator antennas intended for 60~GHz impulse radio are reported. The motivation is to find a suitable antenna that may be integrated in the V-band gated tunnel diode wavelet generator, replacing its tank circuit and forming a low complexity transmitter. Probed one- and two-port scattering parameter measurements have been performed
Design as an integrating factor in an international cross‐disciplinary innovation course
Today, innovation is a key word for many universities, as it constitutes an important part of most universities’ public and scientific interaction with society. Many universities are striving to increase the number of innovations spun out. At many universities, innovations are thought of as being sprung from research projects and generated by researchers. However, Sandström (2014) claims that whil

A CIRCUIT FOR EXTRACORPOREAL BLOOD TREATMENT AND FLOW-INVERTING DEVICE UTILIZED THEREIN
It is disclosed a circuit for extracorporeal blood treatment in which a flow-inverting device is interposed between a blood treatment unit and a blood pump placed on an artery branch connected with a vascular access of a patient. The flow-inverting device allows the blood flow within the filtering unit to be kept unchanged even following an inverted circulation in the patient-side artery and vein
Voltage Control and Load Sharing in DC Distribution Systems
This paper addresses voltage control and load sharing in DC distribution systems. At present, DC distribution systems are utilised in, for example, telecommunication systems. Future applications could also involve distributed power systems based on renewable energy sources. The dynamic and stationary properties of voltage droop control and its load sharing abilities are investigated. The DC bus vo
