Visibility of current and shot noise in electrical Mach-Zehnder and Hanbury Brown Twiss interferometers

We investigate the visibility of the current and shot-noise correlations of electrical analogs of the optical Mach-Zehnder interferometer and the Hanbury Brown Twiss interferometer. The electrical analogs are discussed in conductors subject to high magnetic fields where electron motion is along edge states. The transport quantities are modulated with the help of an Aharonov-Bohm flux. We discuss t

Preventive home visits to older people in southern Sweden

Background: It seems urgent to further develop and modify models of preventive measures in order to prolong a healthy functional and social situation for older people, as this population is increasing globally. The aim of the study was to describe a Swedish model of preventive home visits for persons aged 78 years with the focus on the effect on physical and social well-being, and the participants

Multiple Point Ion Current Diagnostics in an HCCI Engine

Interest in ion current sensing for HCCI combustion arises when a feedback signal from some sort of combustion sensor is needed in order to determine the state of the combustion process. A previous study has revealed that ion current sensors in the form of spark plugs can be used instead of expensive piezoelectric transducers for HCCI combustion sensing. Sufficiently high ion current levels were a

Ancient biomolecules from deep ice cores reveal a forested Southern Greenland

It is difficult to obtain fossil data from the 10% of Earth's terrestrial surface that is covered by thick glaciers and ice sheets, and hence, knowledge of the paleoenvironments of these regions has remained limited. We show that DNA and amino acids from buried organisms can be recovered from the basal sections of deep ice cores, enabling reconstructions of past flora and fauna. We show that high-

The HOO Complex with SO2, a Matrix Isolation Study

The complex formation between HOO and SO2 in argon matrices has been studied with FTIR spectroscopy. The complex shifts of the intramolecular fundamentals of the complex components suggest the formation of a complex, where HOO acts as a lone pair donor to the sulfur atom of SO2 while its hydrogen atom is sufficiently close to one of the oxygen atoms of SO2 to give a significant blue shift of the H

PCB in water and sediment of a lake after remediation of contaminated sediment

PCB concentration in river water at the outlet of a lake was monitored far two years following the completed remediation of the PCB contaminated sediment of the lake. The remediation resulted in lowered PCB concentration in the sediment, from 5 mu g g(-1) (d.w.) to 0.060 mu g g(-1) (d.w.). PCB concentration in the water decreased over the two years, but varied seasonally. Highest PCB concentration

Arbetsgivare och pensioner : Industriarbetsgivarna och tjänstepensioneringen i Sverige 1900-1948

This dissertation discusses employer run or supported occupational pension schemes. Special attention is given to the question of employers' pension promises, their portability and security, during the first half of the 20:th century in Sweden. How did occupational pensions in private industry change in quantitative terms? What did the terminology of a pension promise, its portability and security

On the spectral problem associated with the Camassa-Holm equation

We give a basic uniqueness theorem in the inverse spectral theory for a Sturm-Liouville equation with a weight which is not of one sign. It is shown that the theorem may be applied to the spectral problem associated with the Camassa-Holm integrable system which models shallow water waves.

Governance structures for promoting renewable energy sources

This study seeks to find answers to the question of how much competition is introduced by different types of regulation aimed at promoting electricity generated with renewable energies. For this purpose the partial equilibrium model is applied. Further analysis of the costs of governance for two realised regulations, the German EEG and the Texas RPS, is based on Transaction Cost Economics.

Increased endothelial expression of HLA-DQ and interleukin 1alpha in extra-articular rheumatoid arthritis. Results from immunohistochemical studies of skeletal muscle

OBJECTIVE: To investigate markers of endothelial activation in muscle biopsies from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with and without extra-articular manifestations (ExRA). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Nine consecutive ExRA patients were compared with nine RA controls without ExRA, matched for age, sex and duration of RA. Muscle biopsies were obtained from the lateral vastus or anterior tibial muscle.

15-Hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase and cyclooxygenase 2 messenger ribonucleic acid expression and immunohistochemical localization in human cervical tissue during term and preterm labor

Here we have examined the enzymes cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-OH PGDH) in pregnant human cervix. In biopsies taken transvaginally after preterm and term elective cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries, the levels of mRNA coding for COX-2 and 15-OH PGDH were assessed by Northern blotting. The cellular localization of the COX-2 and 15-OH PGDH proteins was d

Efficient Oncoretroviral Transduction of Extended Long-Term Culture-Initiating Cells and NOD/SCID Repopulating Cells: Enhanced Reconstitution with Gene-Marked Cells Through an Ex Vivo Expansion Approach.

Recent developments of surrogate assays for human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) have facilitated efforts at improving HSC gene transfer efficiency. Through the use of xenograft transplantation models, such as nonobese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficiency (NOD/SCID) mice, successful oncoretroviral gene transfer to transplantable hematopoietic cells has been achieved. However, because of the l
