Thermal stability of vanadia SCR catalysts for the use in diesel applications

The effect of reaction temperature, water content, and vanadia content on the sintering of a model vanadia on silica-titania SCR catalysts has been investigated. A comparison is also made to a monolithic vanadia/titania catalyst submitted to conditions simulating at least 500,000 km driving on a diesel truck. The variation of the surface area, the pore structure and the crystallite size of the cat

Comparison of Negative Valve Overlap (NVO) and Rebreathing Valve Strategies on a Gasoline PPC Engine at Low Load and Idle Operating Conditions

Gasoline partially premixed combustion (PPC) has the potential of high efficiency and simultaneous low soot and NOx emissions. Running the engine in PPC mode with high octane number fuels has the advantage of a longer premix period of fuel and air which reduces soot emissions. The problem is the ignitability at low load and idle operating conditions. In a previous study it was shown that it is po

Massive MIMO channels - measurements and models

Spatial multiplexing using Massive MIMO has been shown to have very promising properties, including large gains in spectral efficiency and several orders of magnitude lower transmit power, as compared to today's access schemes. The properties of massive MIMO have been studied mostly for theoretical channels with independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) complex Gaussian coefficients. To eff

Prasugrel achieves greater and faster P2Y12receptor-mediated platelet inhibition than clopidogrel due to more efficient generation of its active metabolite in aspirin-treated patients with coronary artery disease

Aims P2Y(12) receptor antagonism and platelet inhibition by prasugrel vs. clopidogrel were investigated in patients with stable coronary artery disease. Methods and results One hundred and ten aspirin treated subjects were randomized to double-blind treatment with clopidogrel (n = 55) 600 mg loading dose (LD) and 75 mg maintenance dose (MD) or prasugrel (n = 55) 60 mg LD and 10 mg MD for 28 days.

Plantar pressures in diabetic patients with foot ulcers which have remained healed

Aims The recurrence of foot ulcers is a significant problem in people with diabetic neuropathy. The purpose of this study was to measure in-shoe plantar pressures and other characteristics in a group of neuropathic patients with diabetes who had prior foot ulcers which had remained healed. Methods This was an epidemiological cohort study of patients from diabetes clinics of two Swedish hospitals.

Increased plasma apoM levels in the patients suffered from hepatocellular carcinoma and other chronic liver diseases

Objective: To determine plasma apolipoprotein M ( apoM) levels and other lipid profiles in hepatocellular carcinoma ( HCC) patients compared to other chronic liver diseases and normal subjects. Materials and methods: 36 HCC, 68 chronic hepatitis, 29 liver cirrhosis patients and 64 normal controls were subjected in the present study. Serum lipids, lipoproteins, apolipoprotein AI ( apoAI) and apoB w

Robust Stability Analysis of Sparsely Interconnected Uncertain Systems

In this paper, we consider robust stability analysis of large-scale sparsely interconnected uncertain systems. By modeling the interconnections among the subsystems with integral quadratic constraints, we show that robust stability analysis of such systems can be performed by solving a set of sparse linear matrix inequalities. We also show that a sparse formulation of the analysis problem is equiv

Offspring pay sooner, parents pay later: experimental manipulation of body mass reveals trade-offs between immune function, reproduction and survival

Introduction: Life-history theory predicts that organisms trade off survival against reproduction. However, the time scales on which various consequences become evident and the physiology mediating the cost of reproduction remain poorly understood. Yet, explaining not only which mechanisms mediate this trade-off, but also how fast or slow the mechanisms act, is crucial for an improved understandin

The Captivating Chill : Why Readers Desire Nordic Noir

Cinq de ces facThis article outlines some of the common denominators of Nordic crime fiction: characteristics beyond the geographical setting, which are shared by a majority of the fiction included in concepts like Nordic Noir or Scandicrime, and which seem to make this fiction especially attractive to international readers. Five such factors are found to be of particular importance: 1) The Stieg Larsson effect,

Regulation of Hematopoietic Stem Cells

Blodstamceller har multipotentiell differentieringsförmåga dvs. de kan bilda alla mogna bloThis thesis is about the regulation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that represent rare cells residing in the bone marrow (BM) of adults. They are multipotent cells that have the capacity to differentiate to all mature cells of the blood system and have the capacity to self-renew, i.e. generate new HSCs. These cells have tremendous therapeutic potential to treat a variety of hematopoietic disor

The Gaia-ESO Survey: chemical signatures of rocky accretion in a young solar-type star

It is well known that newly formed planetary systems undergo processes of orbital reconfiguration and planetary migration. As a result, planets or protoplanetary objects may accrete onto the central star, being fused and mixed into its external layers. If the accreted mass is sufficiently high and the star has a sufficiently thin convective envelope, such events may result in a modification of the

Chemical composition and mass emission factors of candle smoke particles

The aim of this study is to investigate the physical and chemical properties of particle emissions from candle burning in indoor air. Two representative types of tapered candies were studied during steady burn, sooting burn and smouldering (upon extinction) under controlled conditions in a walk-in stainless steel chamber. Steady burn emits relatively high number emissions of ultrafine particles do

Simple and Causal Copper Cable Model Suitable for G.fast Frequencies

G.fast is a new standard from the International Telecommunication Union, which targets 1 Gb/s over short copper loops using frequencies up to 212 MHz. This new technology requires accurate parametric cable models for simulation, design, and performance evaluation tests. Some existing copper cable models were designed for the very high speed digital subscriber line spectra, i.e., frequencies up to

Gene Expression Profiles in Human and Mouse Primary Cells Provide New Insights into the Differential Actions of Vitamin D-3 Metabolites

1 alpha,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D-3 (1 alpha,25(OH)(2)D-3) had earlier been regarded as the only active hormone. The newly identified actions of 25-hydroxyvitamin D-3 (25(OH)D-3) and 24R,25-dihydroxyvitamin D-3 (24R,25(OH)(2)D-3) broadened the vitamin D-3 endocrine system, however, the current data are fragmented and a systematic understanding is lacking. Here we performed the first systematic study o

Well Development by Jetting Using Coiled Tubing and Simultaneous Pumping.

During flow testing of a deep, 1927-m, gravel packed screen completed well, it became apparent that well development was needed to increase productivity. A hydrojetting system using coiled tubing in combination with simultaneous pumping was developed and tested and found to be successful. To verify whether the jetting improved the well, the results of a pumping test conducted before and after the

Search for single top quark production via contact interactions at LEP2

Single top quark production via four-fermion contact interactions associated to flavour-changing neutral currents was searched for in data taken by the DELPHI detector at LEP2. The data were accumulated at centre-of-mass energies ranging from 189 to 209 GeV, with an integrated luminosity of 598.1 pb(-1). No evidence for a signal was found. Limits on the energy scale Lambda, were set for scalar-, v

Glass, timber and adhesive joints - Innovative load bearing building components

Structural glass-timber composite beams and shear wall elements were investigated in terms of their mechanical behaviour, energy performance and their LCA performance. The load bearing components were manufactured using annealed float glass which was adhesively bonded to the timber with different adhesives. The results show, among other things, that is is possible to join the two materials glass a
