Identification of myocardial injury using perioperative troponin surveillance in major noncardiac surgery and net benefit over the Revised Cardiac Risk Index

Background: Patients with perioperative myocardial injury are at risk of death and major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). The primary aim of this study was to determine optimal thresholds of preoperative and perioperative changes in high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) to predict MACCE and mortality. Methods: Prospective, observational, cohort study in patients ≥

Development and validation of an artificial neural network algorithm to predict mortality and admission to hospital for heart failure after myocardial infarction : a nationwide population-based study

Background: Patients have an estimated mortality of 15–20% within the first year following myocardial infarction and one in four patients who survive myocardial infarction will develop heart failure, severely reducing quality of life and increasing the risk of long-term mortality. We aimed to establish the accuracy of an artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm in predicting 1-year mortality and

Hausdorff dimension of escaping sets of meromorphic functions II

A function which is transcendental and meromorphic in the plane has at least two singular values. On the one hand, if a meromorphic function has exactly two singular values, it is known that the Hausdorff dimension of the escaping set can only be either or . On the other hand, the Hausdorff dimension of escaping sets of Speiser functions can attain every number in (cf. [M. Aspenberg and W. Cui.

Discursive dynamics and lock-ins in socio-technical systems : an overview and a way forward

Understanding the dynamics of stability and change is key to accelerate sustainability transitions. This paper aims to advance and inspire sustainability transition research on this matter by collecting insights from interpretative environmental discourse literature. We develop a heuristic that identifies and describes core discursive elements and dynamics in a socio-technical system. In doing so,

Overexpression of m6A-factors METTL3, ALKBH5, and YTHDC1 alters HPV16 mRNA splicing

We report that overexpression of the m6A-demethylase alkB homolog 5 RNA demethylase (ALKBH5) promoted production of intron retention on the human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) E6 mRNAs thereby promoting E6 mRNA production. ALKBH5 also altered alternative splicing of the late L1 mRNA by an exon skipping mechanism. Knock-down of ALKBH5 had the opposite effect on splicing of these HPV16 mRNAs. Overe

tt̄X Calculations and Modeling

In this talk, we review the status of calculations for the associated production of a top pair and a Higgs, W or Z boson at the Large Hadron Collider. In particular, we focus on the resummation of soft gluon emission effects and on their combination with the complete set of next-to-leading-order corrections of both QCD and electroweak origin, in calculations in which the final state top pair and m

Accurate prediction of B-form/A-form DNA conformation propensity from primary sequence : A machine learning and free energy handshake

DNA carries the genetic code of life, with different conformations associated with different biological functions. Predicting the conformation of DNA from its primary sequence, although desirable, is a challenging problem owing to the polymorphic nature of DNA. We have deployed a host of machine learning algorithms, including the popular state-of-the-art LightGBM (a gradient boosting model), for b

Inadequacies of Physical Examination in Patients with Acute Lower Limb Ischemia Are Associated with Dreadful Consequences

Background: Acute lower limb ischemia (ALI) is limb and life-threatening. The aim of this study was to explore the association between adherence to guidelines on clinical diagnosis of ALI and outcome at 1 year. The hypothesis was that that better examination was associated with favorable outcome in ALI patients. Methods: Retrospective cohort study between 2015 and 2018. In-hospital, operation, rad

Aliased Flow Signal Planimetry by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Grading Aortic Stenosis Severity : A Prospective Pilot Study

Objectives: Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is the standard technique for assessing aortic stenosis (AS), with effective orifice area (EOA) recommended for grading severity. EOA is operator-dependent, influenced by a number of pitfalls and requires multiple measurements introducing independent and random sources of error. We tested the diagnostic accuracy and precision of aliased orifice area

On the Universality of Spatially Coupled LDPC Codes over Intersymbol Interference Channels

In this paper, we derive the exact input/output transfer functions of the optimal a-posteriori probability channel detector for a general ISI channel with erasures. Considering three channel impulse responses of different memory as an example, we compute the BP and MAP thresholds for regular spatially coupled LDPC codes with joint iterative detection and decoding. When we compare the results with

Punctual Cloud : Unbinding Real-time Applications from Cloud-induced Delays

Cloud computing has become a prominent technology for the computing paradigm in various industrial sectors nowadays. For most industrial applications to perform in real-time, the support of periodic computing is required. However, it remains a challenge when the computing is executed in a cloud, since both the network connection and the cloud environment are uncertain. In this paper, we propose a

Apropos the topic : On topic-introducing expressions in Swedish

The inquiry into topicality calls for a deeper understanding of explicit "topic markers" such as apropos and concerning, which are found in many if not all the languages of Europe. From a syntactic perspective, phrases introduced by such expressions are not identifiable with any of the construction types that alter the information structure of the clause involving the left periphery. Thus, apropos

Architecture of topic

This volume contains innovative papers that target the linguistic status of topic at the interface between grammar and discourse. The purpose of the volume is to discuss the universal properties of topics and, at the same time, to document the range of discourse-semantic and grammatical variation within this phenomenon in European languages. The volume is structured accordingly: (i) theoretical fo

Stylistic fronting at the interface of syntax and discourse

This paper presents a novel analysis of the discourse properties of the phenomenon called "Stylistic Fronting" (SF). The widely held view according to which Stylistic Fronting has no discourse-semantic effects in Icelandic, but is related to topic or focus interpretation in Romance, is challenged. It is argued that SF is not simply triggered by formal features but has relevance for information str

Honeybee-Specific Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli

Honeybees are one of our most important insects, not only for their pollination services but also for their production of honey. Honey is the main food for honeybees, produced from collected nectars and transported to the hive. Humans have consumed this mysterious food and applied it since ancient times in traditional medicine around the world. In 2005 we discovered an unknown key to honeybees’ he

The Medieval Towers on the Island of Gotland

This paper discusses early medieval stone towers on Gotland. It summarizes the scholarly interpretations of their functions and dating, and analysis the towers in different spatial settings; towers at farmsteads, at churches and at harbours. Generally, we should see the towers on Gotland as concrete symbols of the presences of different types of elite. The towers at churches and farms reflects the

Setting Up a Big Data Project : Challenges, Opportunities, Technologies and Optimization

In the first part of this chapter we illustrate how a big data project can be set up and optimized. We explain the general value of big data analytics for the enterprise and how value can be derived by analyzing big data. We go on to introduce the characteristics of big data projects and how such projects can be set up, optimized and managed. Two exemplary real word use cases of big data projects
