Referent grammar (RG) in computer comprehension, generation and translation of text (SWETRA)
ABSTRACT AND INTRODUCTION Theories of text and discourse have long assumed the existence of semantic objects called discourse referents, "things being talked about and referred to by pronouns and definite noun phrases"(cf. e.g. Karttunen (1976), Sigurd (1982), Sidner (1983)). Such referents are also often alluded to in sentence grammars, above all in theories of pronominalization and control -ofte
Plasma biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease improve prediction of cognitive decline in cognitively unimpaired elderly populations
Plasma biomarkers of amyloid, tau, and neurodegeneration (ATN) need to be characterized in cognitively unimpaired (CU) elderly individuals. We therefore tested if plasma measurements of amyloid-β (Aβ)42/40, phospho-tau217 (P-tau217), and neurofilament light (NfL) together predict clinical deterioration in 435 CU individuals followed for an average of 4.8 ± 1.7 years in the BioFINDER study. A combi
Bladder cancer therapy using a conformationally fluid tumoricidal peptide complex
Partially unfolded alpha-lactalbumin forms the oleic acid complex HAMLET, with potent tumoricidal activity. Here we define a peptide-based molecular approach for targeting and killing tumor cells, and evidence of its clinical potential (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03560479). A 39-residue alpha-helical peptide from alpha-lactalbumin is shown to gain lethality for tumor cells by forming oleic acid complex
Are Shockley-Read-Hall and ABC models valid for lead halide perovskites?
Metal halide perovskites are an important class of emerging semiconductors. Their charge carrier dynamics is poorly understood due to limited knowledge of defect physics and charge carrier recombination mechanisms. Nevertheless, classical ABC and Shockley-Read-Hall (SRH) models are ubiquitously applied to perovskites without considering their validity. Herein, an advanced technique mapping photolu
Effect of thermal pyrolysis on heat transfer and upward flow characteristics in a rectangular channel using endothermic hydrocarbon fuel
Supercritical heat transfer deterioration can be found in active regenerative cooling processes. Thermal pyrolysis occurs once the temperature of the hydrocarbon fuel exceeds a certain value. To investigate the influence of thermal pyrolysis on the heat transfer behavior and flow-upward characteristics in a rectangular channel, the wall temperature distribution, thermal acceleration, mass fraction
A small molecule inhibitor of Nox2 and Nox4 improves contractile function after ischemia–reperfusion in the mouse heart
The NADPH oxidase enzymes Nox2 and 4, are important generators of Reactive oxygen species (ROS). These enzymes are abundantly expressed in cardiomyocytes and have been implicated in ischemia–reperfusion injury. Previous attempts with full inhibition of their activity using genetically modified animals have shown variable results, suggesting that a selective and graded inhibition could be a more re

Seasonal variation in Norway spruce response to inoculation with bark beetle-associated bluestain fungi one year after a severe drought
In 2018, up to 4 million m3 Norway spruce was killed by the spruce bark beetle Ips typographus in Sweden. The event was unique for Sweden, in terms of both affected volume and the fact that it was triggered by severe drought stress, not by ample availability of relatively defenseless storm-felled trees. The outbreak continued in 2019 and 2020, each year with twice as many trees killed as in 2018.
Bering Sea marine heatwaves : Patterns, trends and connections with the Arctic
The conterminous marine system of the Bering Sea serves as an important connection between the Pacific and the Arctic. Surface water temperatures of the Northern Pacific have been rising over the past decades with associated changes in extremes: marine heatwaves (MHWs). This study aims to explore the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics and occurrence mechanisms of MHWs in the Bering Sea. Our
Building renovation at district level – Lessons learned from international case studies
Renovation at district scale is a key strategy to reduce CO2 emissions by optimising the implementation of renewable energy sources and taking advantage of economy of scale. This paper focuses on analysing good practice examples on energy renovations at district scale. The paper adapts a qualitative research methodology in four phases, including the multi-perspective analysis of nine exemplary ren
Reflexivization in referent grammar
The interpretation of reflexive pronouns has been the topic of extensive linguistic research. This paper illustrates how different types of reflexive pronouns can be inter-preted and generated within the framework of Referent Grammar, a grammar which can be run directly on the computer. The rules illustrated are to be used in the machine translation project SWETRA which translates between English,
Bacillus anthracis spore entry into epithelial cells is an actin-dependent process requiring c-Src and PI3K
Dissemination of Bacillus anthracis from the respiratory mucosa is a critical step in the establishment of inhalational anthrax. Recent in vitro and in vivo studies indicated that this organism was able to penetrate the lung epithelium by directly entering into epithelial cells of the lung; however the molecular details of B. anthracis breaching the epithelium were lacking. Here, using a combinati
Overexpression of heparan sulfate 6-O-sulfotransferases in human embryonic kidney 293 cells results in increased N-acetylglucosaminyl 6-O-sulfation
Heparan sulfate (HS) interacts with a variety of proteins and thus mediates numerous complex biological processes. These interactions critically depend on the patterns of O-sulfate groups within the HS chains that determine binding sites for proteins. In particular the distribution of 6-O-sulfated glucosamine residues influences binding and activity of HS-dependent signaling molecules. The protein
Review of multi-hazard indices : Focus on methods applicable for a Swedish context
A literature review of methods where different hazards are combined into a multi-hazard index or method are presented in this report. The purpose of the review is to get an insight into approaches to combine different hazards into a multi-hazard index or method. To directly combine hazards, it is necessary to present them with the same unit of measure. Regional Interactions between California and the Southwest : The Western Edge of the North American Continental System
The first few centuries of the second millennium saw drastic changes in Coastal California and the American Southwest. In both areas, systems of internal trade intensified, and social systems sped down a path of increasing complexity. Following Peter Peregrine and Stephen Lekson (2006, 2012), we do not believe that these neighboring developments were purely coincidental. Rather, we see California
