Response-Time Control of a Single Server Queue

Feedback in server systems has during last years gained much interest in order to fulfill still increasing demands on performance and optimization regarding, for example, quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this paper we investigate a feedback–based prediction scheme for controlling a single server queue. This control structure has the benefit over other previously suggested control structur

Experimental study on innovative connections for large span timber truss structures

This paper summarizes an experimental investigation on several innovative reinforcing techniques for the “Single Large Diameter Dowel Connection”, SLDDC in timber truss structures. Besides lateral reinforcing or prestressing, also steel plates glued on two sides of the glulam specimens were used as reinforcing measure. To study the efficiency of these techniques, 15 full-scale quasi-static tensile

Comparison between a novel claw-pole electrically magnetized synchronous machine without slip-rings and a permanent magnet machine

Electrical machines used in EV/HEV traction applications are usually driven at speeds where field weakening operation is required. In this region, electrically magnetized machines are more easily operated than permanent magnet machines. This paper discusses the performance of an electrically magnetized synchronous machine where the field coils are placed in magnetically conducting end-plates attac

High-resolution simulations of stellar collisions between equal-mass main-sequence stars in globular clusters

We performed high-resolution simulations of two stellar collisions relevant for stars in globular clusters. We considered one head-on collision and one off-axis collision between two 0.6-Msolar main-sequence stars. We show that a resolution of about 100000 particles is sufficient for most studies of the structure and evolution of blue stragglers. We demonstrate conclusively that collision products

In this dissertation, The Public Library and the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm – A Study of Architectural Criticism in the Swedish Press, the textual genre of architectural criticism is discussed from different perspectives. The principal aim is to illuminate, through a close reading of a sample of articles, how professional critics discursively and rhetorically communicate their idea of archi

On Tailbiting Codes from Convolutional Codes

Tailbiting is a method to terminate convolutional codes into block codes. We call these block codes tailbiting codes. This thesis focuses on the encoding of tailbiting codes. The tailbiting method is carefully investigated. Conditions for when the tailbiting method fails are given, and methods for the proper initialization of the encoder are presented. Furthermore, the minimum distances of the tai
