The Molecular Chaperone DNAJB6 - A Suppressor of Disease Related Amyloid Fibril Formation

Proteiner är uppbyggda av aminosyror som binds ihop till en kedja och som sedan veckar ihop sig så att protSeveral neurodegenerative diseases are caused by peptides or proteins forming amyloid fibrils such as the Aβ peptide involved in Alzheimer’s disease and the huntingtin exon-1 with a prolonged polyglutamine (polyQ) stretch involved in Huntington’s disease. The ability to form amyloid fibrils is an intrinsic feature in all proteins. The fibrils are built up of monomers to form elongated structures w

A comparison of DFT and SVD based channel estimation in MIMO OFDM systems

In this paper two simplified transform based estimators for MIMO OFDM systems using the DFT and an SVD based transform are compared over a tapped delay line channel model. In the resulting symbol error rate plots, it is seen that the DFT based estimator experiences an error floor caused by the mismatch between the discrete time model and a continuous time reality. This error floor becomes a proble

Tillvaratagna effekter.

Tidigare forskning och teorier kring materialikonografIn this thesis the oeuvre of the Swedish artist Jan Håfström (born 1937), from his debut in 1966 until 2002, is presented for the first time in a comprehensive approach. Concepts linked to modernism and postmodernism are used as a frame and the art works are discussed in a comparative way, placing the artist in an international context. Previous research and theories dealing with material iconogra

Industrial Robotics

Most robots today can trace their origin to early industrial robot designs. Much of the technology that makes robots more human-friendly and adaptable for different applications has emerged from manufacturers of industrial robots. Industrial robots are by far the largest commercial application of robotics technology today. All the important foundations for robot control were initially developed wi

Co-located games created by children with visual impairments

The present paper reports on a games workshop within the ABBI EU project involving children with visual impairments as co-creators. The created games show that it is possible to create fun, rich and social co-located games with wearable technology employing very simple interactivity. Having a device that makes a sound when you move allows for the creation of finding and avoiding games but also for

Structure, dynamics, and rheology of concentrated dispersions of poly(ethylene glycol)-grafted colloids

A comprehensive experimental study of the dynamics and rheology of concentrated aqueous dispersions of polyethylene glycol-grafted colloidal spheres is reported. The study focuses on good solvent conditions, for which excluded-volume interactions dominate. At high concentrations a glass transition is evident from the nondecaying component of the intensity correlation function measured with three-d

Integrating the “dead capital” in models of cadastral systems

Cadastral Systems have developed during the latest decades, impelled by improved information technology. Cadastral projects have become more strategic in a development perspective, with expected long-term returns in economic growth. An improvement of an existent information system requires an understanding of the basis of the current model, its coverage and the processes of change. The land unit

Adaptive Optics in Integrated Modeling of Telescopes

This thesis present the implementation of a modular adaptive optics (AO) model, as part of an integrated model of extremely large telescopes (ELTs). The purpose of the project has been to establish knowledge within integrated modeling, with emphasis on adaptive optics. A modular Single Conjugate Adaptive Optics (SCAO) model has been built in MATLAB, around ordinary differential equation (ODE) so

The role of the Baltic States, Poland and Hungary in the new Europe

The Soviet era had come to an end and by 2002 a new idea of Europe was emerging which would see the enlargement of the European Union. The period called ‘transition’ was relegated to history. It denoted the transition of the Baltic and Central European states from the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet bloc to NATO and the European Union. Originally, transition was a concept used only to denote that the f

Understanding dependencies: Why safety, security and sustainability are increasingly challenging for cities and regions

Abstract in UndeterminedThe increasing effectiveness and efficiency of modern society is not only beneficial, but also liable for new or increased vulnerabilities. The seemingly ever-increasing complexity of modern society is in other words bringing new challenges for safety, security and sustainability. At the heart of these challenges lay an incremental increase in dependencies between sectors,
