Bacterial pseudokinase catalyzes protein polyglutamylation to inhibit the SidE-family ubiquitin ligases

Enzymes with a protein kinase fold transfer phosphate from adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) to substrates in a process known as phosphorylation. Here, we show that the Legionella meta-effector SidJ adopts a protein kinase fold, yet unexpectedly catalyzes protein polyglutamylation. SidJ is activated by host-cell calmodulin to polyglutamylate the SidE family of ubiquitin (Ub) ligases. Crystal structu

Biological treatment of ankylosing spondylitis : A nationwide study of treatment trajectories on a patient level in clinical practice

Background: There is substantial evidence that patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) have high response rates to tumour necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi), a low likelihood of successful treatment termination, but yet a limited drug retention. Whereas several reports have assessed drug retention rates for TNFi in AS, there are few, if any, studies investigating the actual treatment trajectories

Dialogue with property owners and property developers as a tool for sustainable transformation : A literature review

The housing sector is important for achieving ambitious environmental targets. In the European Union, buildings account for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions. Considering the scale of the housing sector's environmental impact, interventions in how new housing is built and existing housing is renovated have great potential for sustainable transformation. However, the sector has not

Randomized clinical trial of open suture repair versus totally extraperitoneal repair for treatment of sportsman's hernia

Background: Sportsman's hernia/athletic pubalgia is a recognized cause of chronic groin pain in athletes. Both open and laparoscopic surgical repairs have been described for treatment, but there are no comparative studies. The hypothesis here was that relief of pain would be achieved earlier in patients treated with open minimal suture repair than totally extraperitoneal repair. Methods: A randomi

Chemical methods and techniques to monitor early Maillard reaction in milk products; A review

Maillard reaction is an extensively studied, yet unresolved chemical reaction that occurs as a result of application of the heat and during the storage of foods. The formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) has been the focus of several investigations recently. These molecules which are formed at the advanced stage of the Maillard reaction, are suspected to be involved in autoimmune dis

Kinetics of carbon and nitrogen assimilation by heterotrophic microorganisms during wastewater treatment

The present study highlights microbial assimilation of carbon (glucose) and nitrogen (NH3–N) from wastewater using heterotrophic bioconversion process. Experiments were conducted to study the role of heterotrophic microbes towards removal of carbon and nitrogen at varying initial concentrations of carbon (COD, 533 to 1600 mg/l) and nitrogen (NH3–N, 73 to 249 mg/l) keeping the initial biomass of mi

Issues on transparency, accountability and control in hybrid organisations : The case of enterprises owned by local government

Our purpose is to critically discuss the quality of governability and scrutiny of, as well as insight in, enterprises owned by local government. Our analysis is empirically grounded in an in-depth case study of one of Sweden’s 10 largest municipalities. The ambition is to highlight troublesome areas and danger zones when it comes to public owning of corporations. We have consulted diverse types of

Re-examination of accelerometer data processing and calibration for the assessment of physical activity intensity

This review re-examines the use of accelerometer and oxygen uptake data for the assessment of activity intensity. Accelerometers capture mechanical work, while oxygen uptake captures the energy cost of this work. Frequency filtering needs to be considered when processing acceleration data. A too restrictive filter attenuates the acceleration signal for walking and, to a higher degree, for running.

Beyond respiration : Controls on lateral carbon fluxes across the terrestrial-aquatic interface

Understanding what controls the lateral flux of organic and inorganic carbon from landscapes to surfacewaters is key to fully understanding terrestrial ecosystem carbon balances, the biogeochemistry of fresh-waters, and how the hydrologically-mediated movement of carbon between these ecosystems may be alteredby global change. In this paper, we synthesize current knowledge and identify major knowled

Deep Eutectic Solvent Mediated Alkyne-Carbonyl Metathesis (ACM) Reaction for the Synthesis of 2H-Chromene Derivatives

2H-Chromene is an important structural motif present in many biologically active compounds, natural products and showed many other properties. Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) an environmentally benign and alternative to the conventional organic volatile solvents has been utilized first time for the synthesis of the 2H-chromene derivatives in moderated to excellent yields. The DES is recycled for 5 tim

An orthonauplius of 'Orsten'-type preservation from the upper Cambrian (Furongian) of South China

A tiny larva of ʻOrstenʼ-type of three-dimensional preservation has been recovered from the Upper Cambrian Bitiao Formation of Wangcun section, western Hunan, South China, herein in- terpreted as an orthonauplius stage of a crown-group crustacean. The specimen comprises an ovoid body with a prominent labrum and three pairs of appendages. In all it exhibits comparable morpho- logical similarities w

Experimental and kinetic modelling investigation on NO, CO and NH3 emissions from NH3/CH4/air premixed flames

Ammonia (NH3) is regarded as one of the most viable alternatives to produce carbon-free energy. However, its low flammability and high NOx emissions associated with its combustion inhibit the implementation of pure NH3 as a fuel. Dual-fuel approaches with NH3 and more reactive fuels have been proposed; however, information on pollutant emissions is still scarce. The present work focuses on quantif

Numerical study of a fire-driven flow in a narrow cavity

Air cavities and gaps between material layers are common in construction systems, e.g. ventilated façades. Air cavity may provide a pathway for smoke and flame spread in case of fire. Performing physical testing to investigate different systems and fire scenarios is resource demanding. Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS version 6.7.0) was used to simulate fire driven flow between two parallel vertical w
