Challenges and perspectives for improved management of HIV/Mycobacterium tuberculosis co-infection

HIV and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) are two widespread and highly successful microbes whose synergy in pathogenesis has created a significant threat for human health globally. In acknowledgement of this fact, the European Union (EU) has funded a multinational support action, the European Network for global cooperation in the field of AIDS and TB (EUCO-Net), that brings together experts from E

Safety of device closure of secundum atrial septal defects in children-does the weight at time of procedure matter?

Background: Transcatheter closure of secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) is nowadays the main treatment option in many centers worldwide. In symptomatic infants or in those with certain comorbidities, there is a need for early intervention. Limited data are available about the procedural safety in infants below 15 kg of weight. Methods: Retrospective review of all patients referred to our center f

Impact of Band-Tails on the Subthreshold Swing of III-V Tunnel Field-Effect Transistor

We present a simple model to evaluate the sharpness of the band edges for tunnel field-effect transistors by comparing the subthreshold swing and the conductance in the negative differential resistance region. This model is evaluated using experimental data from InAs/InGaAsSb/GaSb nanowire tunnel-field effect transistors with the ability to reach a subthreshold swing well below the thermal limit.

Role of Community Based Organizations in Transferring Climate Change Information in Rwanda

Background and Objective: Climate change poses a threat for agriculture and development in Rwanda. The agricultural sector in Rwanda is the engine of economic growth and modernization. This study examines the role of community based organizations (CBOs) in transferring climate change information to farmers’ communities in Rwanda. Materials and Methods: Three districts (Kirehe, Rwamagana and Ngoma)

Anti-Fox Hunting, Women Novelists, and the First World War

Fox hunting was, in the years preceding the First World War, a crucial part of rural English life, and a means of promoting a variety of ideologies associated with class, gender and rule. At this time, the anti-hunt movement was virtually nonexistent. Though the First World War was not a catalyst for a mass movement, it did occasion change, both materially in the hunting community and in societal

Pollinators and Insect Pollination in Changing Agricultural Landscapes

Många gamla hagmarker och ängsmarker där bin och fjärilAgricultural intensification and associated loss of semi-natural grasslands, has resulted in reduced landscape heterogeneity. A concomitant loss of forage and nest sites for pollinating insects has driven declines across several pollinator taxa. Because 75% of the cultivated crops and more than 85% of the flowering plant species are insectpollinated, concerns have been raised that the pollinator d
