8He-6He: a comparative study of electromagnetic fragmentation reactions

Dissociation of a 227 MeV/u 8He beam in a lead target has been studied in a kinematically complete experiment. The results are compared with similar data from the well-known halo nucleus 6He. Coulomb–nuclear interference in the inelastic channel gives evidence for a Iπ=1− resonance in 8He at Ex=4.15 MeV. The deduced B(E1) value of 0.38±0.07 e2 fm2 indicates a uniform distribution of the four neutr

Challenges in Designing Resilient Socio-technical Systems: A Case Study of Railway Tunnel Projects

This paper presents a case study of decision-making at the design stage of a socio-technical system where resilience at the global level of the system was constrained by the local perspectives adopted by the different stakeholders. The study is based on interviews with key decision-makers involved in the design stage of six railway tunnel projects in Sweden. The results show that differences in ro

Core-Level Expansion of Compressed Test Patterns

The increasing test-data volumes needed for the testing of system-on-chip (SOC) integrated circuits lead to long test-application times and high tester memory requirements. Efficient test planning and test-data compression are therefore needed. We present an analysis to highlight the fact that the impact of a test-data compression technique on test time and compression ratio are method-dependant a

Apgar scores at 5 minutes after birth in relation to school performance at 16 years of age.

OBJECTIVE: : To estimate the association between an Apgar score of less than 7 at 5 minutes after birth and long-term cognitive function. METHODS: : A linkage between the Swedish Medical Birth Registry and the Swedish School Grade Registry was performed. All singletons born from 1973 to 1986 after 36 6/7 weeks of gestation to Swedish-born women were included. Fetuses that were stillborn, newborns

Breastfeeding and its impact on daily life in women with type 1 diabetes during the first six months after childbirth: a prospective cohort study

For mothers with diabetes, breastfeeding is a great challenge due to their struggle with potentially unstable blood glucose levels. This paper explores breastfeeding attitudes and impact of breastfeeding on the daily life of mothers with type 1 diabetes compared with non-diabetic mothers. Methods: We performed a prospective cohort study of 108 mothers with type 1 diabetes and a reference group of 1

Different gene expression in immunoglobulin-mutated and immunoglobulin-unmutated forms of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

The mutation status of the immunoglobulin heavy chain variable regions (IgVH) has been found to be a good prognostic indicator for B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) because unmutated VH genes are associated with rapid disease progression and shorter survival time. To study the differences in gene expression between the Ig-unmutated and Ig-mutated CLL subtypes, we performed gene expression

Effects of a Standard Versus Comprehensive Oral Care Protocol Among Intubated Neuroscience ICU Patients: Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial.

The purpose of the study was to compare changes in oral health during intubation until 48 hours after extubation in neuroscience intensive care unit (ICU) patients enrolled in a standard or a comprehensive oral care protocol. The effects of manual toothbrushing (standard group, n = 31) were compared with those of tongue scraping, electric toothbrushing, and moisturizing (comprehensive group, n = 2

Patch testing of patients allergic to Disperse Blue 106 and Disperse Blue 124 with thin-layer chromatograms and purified dyes.

BACKGROUND: Former investigations have demonstrated that patch test preparations containing Disperse Blue (DB) 106 and DB 124 are impure. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the significance of impurities in preparations of disperse dyes with regard to contact allergy. MATERIALS/METHODS: 21 patients allergic to DB 106 and/or DB 124 were tested with dilution series of commercial and purified DB 106 and DB 12

A longitudinal follow-up of hand involvement and activities of daily living in early systemic sclerosis.

Objective: To investigate the development of hand involvement and activities of daily life (ADL) in early systemic sclerosis (SSc), and to examine the usefulness of the Hand Mobility in Scleroderma (HAMIS) test in a longitudinal study. Methods: Forty-three patients with disease duration no longer than 3 years and at least 4 years of follow-up formed the study group. Based on skin involvement, 31 p

Making it to the top in team sports: Start later, intensify, and be determined!

It is debated whether young athletes need to specialize early, or if it is more beneficial to follow the path of early diversification. The present study investigates the career paths and related motivational and volitional factors of Danish elite and near-elite team sport athletes. Seventy-six athletes matched by sport, age and sex participated in the study. Elite athletes started their career la
