Jet quenching parameter in QCD kinetic theory

We study the jet quenching parameter q^ in a nonequilibrium plasma using the QCD effective kinetic theory. We discuss subleading terms at large jet momentum p, show that our expression for q^ reproduces thermal results at small and large transverse momentum cutoffs for infinite p, and construct an interpolation between these limits to be used in phenomenological applications. Using simple nonequil

Speech modifications and the Processability Theory hierarchy : Some observations on word order in Swedish L1 and L2 input

This study explores to what extent there is a difference in input in L1 and L2 Swedish regarding word order. Swedish is a V2 language with only one constituent preceding the tensed verb. This phenomenon is acquired in different ways by L1 and L2 learners. L1 learners produce V2 without errors around the age of two years whereas L2 learners experience long-lasting problems with the postverbal place

Second-order phase transitions and divergent linear response in dynamical mean-field theory

Second-order phase transitions appear as a divergence in one of the linear response functions. For a system of correlated electrons, the relevant divergent response can and does involve many-particle observables, most famously the double occupancy. Generally, evaluating the linear response function of many-particle observables requires a many-particle generalization of the Bethe-Salpeter equation.

Socio-technical imaginaries of climate-neutral aviation

Limiting global warming to 1.5 °C is crucial to prevent the worst effects of climate change. This entails also the decarbonization of the aviation sector, which is considered to be a “hard-to-abate” sector and thus requires special attention regarding its sustainability transition. However, transition pathways to a potentially climate-neutral aviation sector are unclear, with different stakeholder

Sweden's Ban on Sex-Purchase : Morality politics and the governance of prostitution

This essay thesis examines Sweden’s 1999 ban on purchasing sexual services, considering the attention it received as an unprecedented approach to governing prostitution, the highly polarised political environment in which it exists, and the multiple legal contradictions it displays. Using material gathered through a multisited method from 2009 through 2019, the study shows that the offence is a va

Data-Driven Campaigning in Data-Dense Small Multiparty Systems: A Party-Level Analysis

This study examines data-driven campaign (DDC) practices in Sweden. We explore the extent of data-driven practices adopted in Swedish political campaigns, and parties’ motivations to adopt them. Since this is a comparison of domestic parties, we test the importance of four party-level factors—resources, structure, attitudes toward data use, and ideology—using extensive interviews with key campaign

Compact, folded multi-pass cells for energy scaling of post-compression

Combining high peak and high average power has long been a key challenge of ultrafast laser technology, crucial for applications such as laser-plasma acceleration and strong-field physics. A promising solution lies in post-compressed ytterbium lasers, but scaling these to high pulse energies presents a major bottleneck. Post-compression techniques, particularly Herriott-type multi-pass cells (MPCs

Methodological considerations in practice-based research : Lessons learned from research with a music school in Sweden

A Comprehensive Pathway in Music Education

In what ways can various perspectives, aims, circumstances, and directives influence music students and music teachers in different educational contexts such as primary school, Schools of music and performing arts (SMPA), folk high school, and upper secondary school, viewed from a Nordic perspective?A common characteristic for all these types of schools is that they can be part of an educational a

XUV yield optimization of two-color high-order harmonic generation in gases

We perform an experimental two-color high-order harmonic generation study in argon with the fundamental of an ytterbium ultrashort pulse laser and its second harmonic. The intensity of the second harmonic and its phase relative to the fundamental are varied, in a large range compared to earlier works, while keeping the total intensity constant. We extract the optimum values for the relative phase

Income, inequality, and geography : Disparities in age at death

This chapter explores the relationship between long-term exposure to neighborhood income inequality and adult mortality in Landskrona during a period of declining economic disparities. Using geocoded data from 1939 to 1967, the authors examine three interconnected hypotheses concerning income inequality and longevity. The analysis considers spatial changes in neighborhood inequality over time and

Conclusions : Intergovernmental Relations: Merits and Limits of the Policy-Focused Approach

Our book has taken a distinctive, policy-oriented approach to IGR in analysing both specific crisis-driven problems and new, longer-term, and emerging policy issues confronting European governments. We have explored the shifting balances of power within IGR systems focused on the challenges of vertical and horizontal coordination within cross-country, comparative perspectives. In order to position

Large-scale systematic review support for guideline development in diabetes precision medicine

Background: Involving librarians as team members can lead to better quality in reviews. To improve their search results, an international diabetes project involved two medical librarians in a large-scale project planning of a series of systematic reviews for clinical guidelines in diabetes precision medicine. Case Presentation: The precision diabetes project was divided into teams. Four diabetes m

Long-term outcomes after capitate fractures : a median 16-year follow-up

Introduction: The long-term effects of a capitate fracture are unknown. The aim of this study was to assess both clinical and radiological long-term outcomes after a capitate fracture. Materials and methods: From a cohort of 526 consecutive patients with post traumatic radial sided wrist pain, 23 were identified diagnosed with a capitate fracture. 16 of these (11 males and 5 females) with a median

European society of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases guidelines for antimicrobial stewardship in emergency departments (endorsed by European association of hospital pharmacists)

Scope: This European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases guideline provides evidence-based recommendations to support a selection of appropriate antibiotic use practices for patients seen in the emergency department (ED) and guidance for their implementation. The topics addressed in this guideline are (a) Do biomarkers or rapid pathogen tests improve antibiotic prescribing and

Iohexol plasma clearance measurement protocol standardization for adults : a consensus paper of the European Kidney Function Consortium

International consensus supports the development of standardized protocols for measured glomerular filtration rate (mGFR) to facilitate the integration of mGFR testing in both clinical and research settings. To this end, the European Kidney Function Consortium convened an international group of experts with relevant experience in mGFR. The working group performed an extensive literature search to
