The historical Kana orthography: A study of the present-day understanding of the old orthography

The Japanese writing system has gone through a variety of changes over the years, one of these being the abolishment of the historical kana orthographical system in 1946. This system of writing, which was based on the historical and ancient writing of the kana from many centuries before 1946, had evolved into a system that was very different from the spoken language and hereby the reforms quickly

K2-31B, a grazing transiting hot jupiter on a 1.26-day orbit around a bright G7V star

We report the discovery of K2-31b, the first confirmed transiting hot Jupiter detected by the K2 space mission. We combined K2 photometry with FastCam lucky imaging and FIES and HARPS high-resolution spectroscopy to confirm the planetary nature of the transiting object and derived the system parameters. K2-31b is a 1.8-Jupiter-mass planet on 1.26-day orbit around a G7 V star (M∗ = 0.91 M⊙, R∗ = 0.

EPIC 219388192b - An Inhabitant of the Brown Dwarf Desert in the Ruprecht 147 Open Cluster

Ruprecht 147, the oldest nearby open cluster association, which was photometrically monitored by K2 during its Campaign 7. We combine the K2 time-series data with ground-based adaptive optics imaging and high-resolution spectroscopy to rule out false positive scenarios and determine the main parameters of the system. EPIC 219388192b has a radius of Rb= 0.937 ± 0.032 RJup and mass of Mb = 36.84 ± 0

GJ 367b : A dense, ultrashort-period sub-Earth planet transiting a nearby red dwarf star

Ultrashort-period (USP) exoplanets have orbital periods shorter than 1 day. Precise masses and radii of USP exoplanets could provide constraints on their unknown formation and evolution processes. We report the detection and characterization of the USP planet GJ 367b using high-precision photometry and radial velocity observations. GJ 367b orbits a bright (V-band magnitude of 10.2), nearby, and re

Roxborough Park Community Wildfire Evacuation Drill : Data Collection and Model Benchmarking

Wildfires are increasing in scale, frequency and longevity, and are affecting new locations as environmental conditions change. This paper presents a dataset collected during a community evacuation drill performed in Roxborough Park, Colorado (USA) in 2019. This is a wildland–urban interface community including approximately 900 homes. Data concerning several aspects of community response were col

Neolitisk solkult på Bornholm? En analys av tolkningarna av ”solstenarna” från Rispebjerg och Vasagård

The intention of this paper is to investigate the interpretation process of the so called sunstones from Rispebjerg and Vasagård on Bornholm, what arguments are used to support the conclusions and are they well-founded. It is a literary study using discourse theory and argumentation analysis. Rispebjerg and Vasagård are two sites situated on distinctive places in the landscape and were inhabited f

A study of the donor properties of sialyl phosphites having an auxiliary 3-(S)-phenylseleno group

Two phosphite sialyl donors, each having an auxiliary 3-(S)-phenylseleno group, were prepared and evaluated. The phenylseleno group was introduced via a new mode of generating phenylselenenic acid (‘PhSeOH’). Although the sialyl donors provided fair yields (32–76%) of the desired sialosides in glycosylations of the reactive acceptor 1,2;3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-α-d-galactopyranose, no sialylated pr

Treatment and survival of patients with metachronous colorectal lung metastases

Introduction: The lungs are the second most common site for metachronous metastases in colorectal cancer. No treatment algorithm is established, and the role of adjuvant chemotherapy is unclear. This study aimed to map pulmonary recurrences in a modern multimodal treated population, and to evaluate survival depending on management. Methods: Retrospective study based on the COLOFOL-trial population

A robust indoor positioning method based on bluetooth low energy with separate channel information

Among the current indoor positioning technologies, Bluetooth low energy (BLE) has gained increasing attention. In particular, the traditional distance estimation derived from aggregate RSS and signal-attenuation models is generally unstable because of the complicated interference in indoor environments. To improve the adaptability and robustness of the BLE positioning system, we propose making ful

Banal placemaking : spatial conceptions in an Icelandic provincial newspaper in the 1880s

Drawing theoretic inspiration from the spatial turn within humanities, this article attempts to develop methods for studying placemaking in news media. This is done by a case study of the newspaper Þjóðviljinn, published in Ísafjörður, Iceland, in the late nineteenth century. The concept ‘banal placemaking’ is suggested for the kinds of spatial conceptions that occur in the paper without the expli

Effect of Reynolds number and a low-intensity freestream turbulence on the flow around a circular cylinder

This paper presents experimental results from measurements on circular cylinders of differentdiameters in cross flow. The Reynolds number was varied from about 50 to 2·105. Thecombined effects of Reynolds number and a low-intensity freestream turbulence (Tu =1.4%)on the variation of different coefficients, e.g., Strouhal number, mean and RMS pressurecoefficients, are presented. The results indicat

Trends in Treatments With Disease-Specific and Interfering Drugs in Patients With Hereditary Angioedema in Sweden

BACKGROUND: Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is caused by low levels of or defects in C1 inhibitor. Although disease activity may be modified by prophylaxis, emergency treatment, treatment for comorbidities, and oral contraceptives, the extent of their use is unclear. OBJECTIVE: To investigate trends in the use of disease-specific and interfering drugs in patients with HAE compared with the general pop

Mobile app vs. desktop browser platforms : the relationships among customer engagement, experience, relationship quality and loyalty intention

The growing use of mobile technologies is spawning firms’ adoption of mobile relationship-building techniques, including via mobile apps. However, despite the rapid rise of these technologies, little remains known regarding consumers’ mobile app- (vs. desktop browser) related behaviours, and this is therefore investigated in this paper. Specifically, we explore the effect of customer engagement (C

Raising the value of research studies in psychological science by increasing the credibility of research reports : the transparent Psi project

The low reproducibility rate in social sciences has produced hesitation among researchers in accepting published findings at their face value. Despite the advent of initiatives to increase transparency in research reporting, the field is still lacking tools to verify the credibility of research reports. In the present paper, we describe methodologies that let researchers craft highly credible rese

A dynamic one-equation subgrid model for simulation of flow around a square cylinder

Large Eddy Simulations (LESs) of flow around a square cylinder at Re = 22 × 103 are performed employing a dynamic one-equation subgrid model. An implicit fractional step method finite-volume code with second-order accuracy in space and time is used. By using a periodic boundary condition, the spanwise dimension is four times the side length of the cylinder. Some global quantities, such as the domi

Structure of the distal lung studied with inhaled nanoparticles

Techniques able to detect impairments in the distal human lung are lacking. Since inhaled nanoparticles are predominantly deposited in the acini, their deposition can be used to derive structural properties of the region. Intheory, structural enlargements in the distal lung imply that less inhaled nanoparticles deposit there. This rationale is the basis of the airspace dimension assessment (AiDA)
