Participatory urban art and workplace democracy: A conversational teaser

Building on the experiences from organising participatory urban art in the stigmatised suburbs of various Swedish cities, the article discusses the ways in which such processes democratise space and develop democratic praxis. It then points at the implications of such lessons for organising workplace democracy.

Turning Students into Stock-Market Investors : The Role of Civil Society and Public Schools in Swedish Financialization c. 1985-2010

This article brings agency to discussions on financialization and financial education in Sweden by zooming in on two barely examined actors and arenas: civil society and public schools, respectively. The civil society organization Aktiespararna (Swedish Shareholders’ Association, founded in 1966) attempted to access and impact school education starting with its launch of youthefforts in the 1980s.

Effectiveness of women-led community interventions in improving tuberculosis preventive treatment in children : results from a comparative, before-after study in Ethiopia

OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to evaluate the impact of a service delivery model led by membership-based associations called Iddirs formed by women on tuberculosis preventive treatment (TPT) initiation and completion rates among children.DESIGN: Comparative, before-and-after study design.SETTING: Three intervention and two control districts in Ethiopia.PARTICIPANTS: Children who had a history of c

Temporal dynamics of TNF-mediated changes in hematopoietic stem cell function and recovery

While tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is a critical mediator of appropriate immune response and tissue repair, its misregulation is linked to cancer, autoimmunity, bone marrow failure, and aging. Understanding the context-dependent roles of TNF is essential for elucidating normal and pathogenic conditions and to guide clinical therapy advancements. Prior studies suggested that TNF restricts the self-r

Long-term effect of stepped-care vs in-person cognitive behavioral therapy for pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder

Long-term follow-up data from trials of digital mental health interventions are rare. This study reports 2-year follow-up data from a non-inferiority trial (N = 152) comparing stepped-care (internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy [CBT] followed by traditional in-person CBT if needed) vs in-person CBT for pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder. Both treatment groups had comparable long-ter

Real-world long-term effects on blood pressure and other cardiovascular risk factors for patients in digital therapeutics

Purpose Hypertension is a leading causeof premature death worldwide and a major public health problem. This study investigated the long-term effects (>1 year) of digital hypertension monitoring by home blood pressure (HBP) measurements in combination with individualized remote treatment via a Swedish Digital Therapeutics platform in a large patient population. Methods The primary endpoint, HBP, an

Fused silica microchannel fabrication with smooth surface and high etching selectivity

Channel fabrication technology has become increasingly important for microfluidic and nanofluidic devices. In particular, glass channels have high chemical and physical stability, high optical transparency, and ease of surface modification, so that there is increasing interest in glass microfluidic devices for chemical experiments in microfluidics and nanofluidics. For the fabrication of glass cha

Sialidases and fucosidases of Akkermansia muciniphila are crucial for growth on mucin and nutrient sharing with mucus-associated gut bacteria

The mucolytic human gut microbiota specialist Akkermansia muciniphila is proposed to boost mucin-secretion by the host, thereby being a key player in mucus turnover. Mucin glycan utilization requires the removal of protective caps, notably fucose and sialic acid, but the enzymatic details of this process remain largely unknown. Here, we describe the specificities of ten A. muciniphila glycoside hy

DSP : A protein shape string and its profile prediction server

Many studies have demonstrated that shape string is an extremely important structure representation, since it is more complete than the classical secondary structure. The shape string provides detailed information also in the regions denoted random coil. But few services are provided for systematic analysis of protein shape string. To fill this gap, we have developed an accurate shape string predi

ExCAPE-DB : An integrated large scale dataset facilitating Big Data analysis in chemogenomics

Chemogenomics data generally refers to the activity data of chemical compounds on an array of protein targets and represents an important source of information for building in silico target prediction models. The increasing volume of chemogenomics data offers exciting opportunities to build models based on Big Data. Preparing a high quality data set is a vital step in realizing this goal and this

Using predicted shape string to enhance the accuracy of γ-turn prediction

Numerous methods for predicting c-turns in proteins have been developed. However, the results they generally provided are not very good, with a Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) ≤0.18. Here, an attempt has been made to develop a method to improve the accuracy of γ-turn prediction. First, we employ the geometric mean metric as optimal criterion to evaluate the performance of support vector mac

Age-related and amyloid-beta-independent tau deposition and its downstream effects

Amyloid-β (Aβ) is hypothesized to facilitate the spread of tau pathology beyond the medial temporal lobe. However, there is evidence that, independently of Aβ, age-related tau pathology might be present outside of the medial temporal lobe. We therefore aimed to study age-related Aβ-independent tau deposition outside the medial temporal lobe in two large cohorts and to investigate potential downstr

Dynamical Analysis of Terahertz Quantum Cascade Lasers

This thesis focuses on various aspects in terahertz quantum cascade lasers such as high temperature performances, electrical instabilities and chaos. In the first part of the thesis, an introduction to the topic and the non equilibrium Green's function package applied is given with particular emphasise on the inhomogeneous domain model and the chaos theory. In addition, new results regarding the h

Gambling Disorder – Suicidality, Mortality and Comorbidity

Background: Gambling disorder (GD) is a behavioural addiction in which a person faces negative consequences due to uncontrolled gambling, such as financial, personal, or relational difficulties. GD more often affects men but both men and women face severe consequences of GD. Psychiatric comorbidity is the rule rather than the exception and suicidality is abundant. Health issues such as obesity and

Autonomous cortisol secretion – Mortality, morbidity and diagnostics

ContextUp to half of patients with adrenal adenomas found as incidentalomas show biochemical signs of subtle cortisol hypersecretion without having clinical signs or symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome. A condition called autonomous cortisol secretion (ACS). Previous studies have indicated that ACS might be associated with increased mortality.ObjectivesExplore if ACS is an independent risk factor for i

DN Debatt.

In an era of species extinction and climate change, we should abandon the well-trimmed lawn and let gardens grow wilder, writes Anna Persson and other researchers and landscape architects on DN Debatt.

Psychometric evaluation of the electronic faces thermometer scale for pain assessment in children 8–17 years old: A study protocol

It is often a challenge for a child to communicate their pain, and their possibilities to do so should be strengthened in healthcare settings. Digital self-assessment provides a potential solution for person-centered care in pain management and promotes child participation when a child is ill. A child's perception of pain assessment differs when it is assessed using digital or analog formats. As w
