Two-photon double ionization of neon using an intense attosecond pulse train

We present a demonstration of two-photon double ionization of neon using an intense extreme ultraviolet (XUV) attosecond pulse train (APT) in a photon energy regime where both direct and sequential mechanisms are allowed. For an APT generated through high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in argon we achieve a total pulse energy close to 1μJ, a central energy of 35 eV, and a total bandwidth of ∼30 e

Extracellular Matrix Alterations in Patients with Different Phenotypes of Asthma.

AbstractAsthma is a chronic disease that affects approximately 300 million people worldwide, and the prevalence is increasing. It has become clear that asthma is a highly heterogeneous disease, with overlapping symptoms but with diverse immunopathology and clinical phenotypes. Also, a significant proportion of asthma patients have remaining symptoms despite treatment. In addition to different phen

Reduction of trans-dichloro- and trans-dibromo-tetracyanoplatinate(IV) by L-methionine

Reduction of trans-[Pt(CN) 4 X 2 ] 2- (X = Cl or Br) [as model compounds for antitumour-active platinum(IV) pro-drugs] to [Pt(CN) 4 ] 2- by L-methionine, MeSR, has been studied at 25 °C in the range 0 < pH < 12 (X = Cl) and 0 < pH < 6 (X = Br) by use of stopped-flow spectrophotometry. The stoichiometry is [Pt IV ] : [MeSR] ≈ 1 : 1; the reaction products are methionine S-oxide and [Pt(CN) 4 ] 2- asReduction of trans-[Pt(CN)4 X2]2- (X = Cl or Br) as model compounds for antitumour-active platinum(IV) pro-drugs, to [Pt(CN)4]2- by L-methionine, MeSR, has been studied at 25 °C in the range 0 < pH < 12 (X = Cl) and 0 < pH < 6 (X = Br) by use of stopped-flow spectrophotometry. Exploring the opportunities and barriers of using prefabricated house components

To satisfy customers’ desires with a maintained efficiency of the production process is a challenge for many house construction companies. Houses are one-off projects with a production process characterized by variability and complexity that often lead to unpredicted costs. Prefabricated component solutions could possibly solve these issues through modularization, mass customization and delayed prTo satisfy customers’ desires with a maintained efficiency of the production process is a challenge for many house construction companies. Multivariate linear regression modelling of lung weight in 24,056 Swedish medico-legal autopsy cases

Heavy combined lung weight at autopsy is a non-specific autopsy finding associated with certain causes of death such as intoxication. There is however no clear definition of what constitutes "heavy" lung weight. Different reference values have been suggested but previous studies have been limited by small select populations and only univariate regression has been attempted. The aim of this study w

Reaction of Peroxomonosulfate Radical with Manganese(II) in Acidic Aqueous Solution. A Pulse Radiolysis Study

The reaction between the SO5– radical and MnII has been proposed to be the most important process for regeneration of MnIII in the MnIII/II-catalysed autoxidation of SIV in acidic aqueous solution. In the present study, the second-order rate constant for this reaction has been determined at pH 3. 0 and 10 mmol dm–3 ionic strength by use of pulse radiolysis. Super-Resolution Luminescence Microspectroscopy Reveals the Mechanism of Photoinduced Degradation in CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite Nanocrystals

Photoinduced degradation of individual methylammonium lead triiodide (MAPbI3) perovskite nanocrystals was studied using super-resolution luminescence microspectroscopy under intense light excitation. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity decrease and blue-shift of the PL spectrum up to 60 nm together with spatial shifts in the emission localization position up to a few hundred nanometers were visua

Hydro-climatic variability and agricultural production on the shores of Lake Chad

The purpose of this study is to present and analyze previously unpublished quantitative agricultural data for the area on the shores of Lake Chad in Chad, and explore its relations to hydro-climatic factors (lake levels, rainfall and temperature). This is a rural area with livelihoods based on agropastoral and fishing activities, which are directly dependent on the region's high-varying hydro-clim

High genetic variability of vagrant polar bears illustrates importance of population connectivity in fragmented sea ice habitats

Projections by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and sea ice forecasts suggest that Arctic sea ice will decline markedly in coming decades. Expected effects on the entire ecosystem include a contraction of suitable polar bear habitat into one or few refugia. Such large-scale habitat decline and fragmentation could lead to reduced genetic diversity. Here we compare genetic variab

Type and quantity of organic amendments determine the amount of carbon stabilized in particle-size fractions of a semiarid degraded soil

A 9-month lab experiment was carried out with three different amendments (vine pruning wastes, PW; composted vine pruning wastes, cPW; and sewage sludge, SS) added at three different rates (90, 180, and 240 t ha−1, dry weight) in order to test whether the type or the quantity of the amendments applied to a semiarid, degraded soil determined the Corg accumulation in its particle-size fractions (coa

Louis Vuitton in the bazaar : Negotiating the value of counterfeit goods in Shanghai's Xiangyang market

Much work on counterfeiting takes the perspective of brand holders and focuses on strategies for restricting the infringement of their intellectual property rights (IPR). This article takes a different approach. Based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork in a market bazaar in Shanghai, the article examines the way in which market participants negotiate the value of counterfeit goods. Brand holders

Performance of high rate 802.15.4 UWB PHY over multipath fading channels

This paper investigates the performance of high rate IEEE 802.15.4 UWB PHY schemes. Evaluation takes place over office, residential and outdoor IEEE channel models via Monte-Carlo simulation. Special attention is given to the highest rate (27.24 Mbps) scheme that suffers from intersymbol interference (ISI) over NLOS outdoor and residential channels. Optimum bit-to-symbol mapping (OBM), ISI cancell

On the development of gender in simultaneous and successive bilingual acquisition of French : Evidence for AOA and input effects

This study investigates the effects of Age of Onset of Acquisition (AOA) and the quality and quantity of input on the longitudinal development of gender in the acquisition of French by simultaneous (2L1) and successive bilingual children (cL2). There's an on-going debate regarding the main factors underlying linguistic development in bilingual children. Two independent variables, AOA and input, ha

Finansministern i domkapitlet : Ernst Wigforss som ledamot av Göteborgs domkapitel 1918−1936

Ernst Wigforss (1881−1977) was Minister of Finance in Sweden 1925−26, 1932−36, and 1936−49, and one of the great ideologists of Swedish SocialDemocracy. During 1918−36 he was also a member of the Chapter in the Diocese of Gothenburg, Church of Sweden. Before 1937, lecturers in the old grammar schools were ex officiomembers of the diocesan chapter. The agnostic Wigforss took his seat in the chapter
