On Socio-Legal Design
This chapter provides an introduction to research design in sociology of law by describing the stages which jointly shape the process of socio-legal inquiry. It asks if there is a specific way of planning research in sociology of law which distinguishes itself from research design in other social science disciplines. Research design is often used somewhat narrowly to examine the correspondence bet

Klassisk barnsängsfeber existerar fortfarande - 9 fall bland anmälningar till LÖF under 2010–2014
Puerpural fever still exist. A rare condition that must be kept in mind All 33 claims to the Swedish National Patient Insurance (LÖF) in 2010-2014 related to obstetric infections, of which 14 were due to endometritis, were examined. Nine women suffered from fulminant infections consistent with classical puerperal fever (childbed fever), 2 of which were life-threatening. They occurred unexpectedly,

Mining, Economic Activity and Remote Sensing : Case studies from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Tanzania
Mining is a major economic activity in many developing countries particularly in Africa. Mining operations, whether small- or large-scale, have an impact on local communities. Previous research focus on how the gold mining sector in Africa is dependent on policy reforms in order to enable countries to better benefit from the sector, changing environmental conditions or the structure of the economi
Does Large-Scale Gold Mining Reduce Agricultural Growth? : Case studies from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Tanzania
We apply a novel analytical framework based on medium resolution satellite data for the period 2001 – 2012 to estimate the effects of gold mining on agricultural production in Ghana, Mali, Tanzania and Burkina Faso. Our analysis finds a strong correlation between official statistics of agricultural production and vegetation index from satellite data at district level in these countries. Agricultur
Real-time observation of X-ray-induced intramolecular and interatomic electronic decay in CH2I2
The increasing availability of X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs) has catalyzed the development of single-object structural determination and of structural dynamics tracking in real-time. Disentangling the molecular-level reactions triggered by the interaction with an XFEL pulse is a fundamental step towards developing such applications. Here we report real-time observations of XFEL-induced electr

Many-body interactions between charged particles in a polymer solution : the protein regime
We study the phase behavior of charged particles in electrolyte solutions wherein non-adsorbing polymers are added to provide an attractive depletion interaction. The polymer has a radius of gyration similar to that of the particle radius, which causes significant many-body effects in the effective polymer mediated interaction between particles. We use a recently developed analytical theory, which
Variation in physical, chemical and biological components in the subantarctic lakes of South Georgia
Physical, chemical and biological variables were quantified in 19 subantarctic lakes (South Georgia) as a prelude to comparing these pristine systems with temperate lakes and to improve the knowledge of spatial and temporal variation in water chemistry and abundances of organisms. Lakes close to the sea had higher phosphorus concentrations, contained higher abundances of most organisms, and had hi

Migration and movement
Movement and migration are fundamental parts of the life cycle of most organisms on Earth and occur at an astonishing range of spatial and temporal scales, from iconic pole-to-pole migrations of some birds to diel migrations of enormous amounts of millimeter-sized crustaceans through the waters of oceans and lakes. To move or not to move in a certain situation is a decision that is often taken by
A classical density functional study of clustering in ionic liquids at electrified interfaces
Ion association, leading to the formation of clusters in ionic liquids, is investigated within the framework of classical density functional theory. Clusters are incorporated into a generic coarse-grained model for imidazolium-based ionic liquids confined by planar charged surfaces. We find that the short-ranged structure adjacent to surfaces is remarkably unaffected by the degree of ion associati
Classical Density Functional Theory of Polymer Fluids.
We introduce a classical density functional (DFT) description of polymer solutions, initially focusing on systems containing flexible and monodisperse chains. The theory is used to describe excluded volume effects by utilizing the so-called “Generalized Flory-Dimer” (GFD) equation of state. We also describe efficient computational approaches to numerical solutions. We then extend our treatment to
Mirror QCD and cosmological constant
An analog of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) sector known as mirror QCD (mQCD) can affect the cosmological evolution due to a non-trivial contribution to the Cosmological Constant analogous to that induced by the ground state in non-perturbative QCD. In this work, we explore a plausible hypothesis for trace anomalies cancellation between the usual QCD and mQCD. Such an anomaly cancellation between t
Quantum Yang-Mills dark energy
In this short review, I discuss basic qualitative characteristics of quantum non-Abelian gauge dynamics in the non-stationary background of the expanding Universe in the framework of the standard Einstein-Yang-Mills formulation. A brief outlook of existing studies of cosmological Yang-Mills fields and their properties will be given. Quantum effects have a profound impact on the gauge field-driven
