Considering the strong parallelisms between English and Danish syntax, it is an open question why Danish (and the rest of the Germanic languages) still adhere to the Verb Second rule while English no longer does. This project seeks to address this question through statistical analyses derived from corpus investigations. Through a diachronic and comparative examination of V2 in English and Danish, the project will shed new light on the similarities and differences between the two languages, providing a fresh corpora-based and historical perspective to already-existing research on V2.
