"Knowledge of language(s) in multilingual contexts" by Charles B. Chang, Ph.D, Boston University
Abstract
What can we learn about linguistic knowledge from users of two or more languages? In this talk, I will report on recent and ongoing work in my lab examining aspects of phonology and morpho-syntax through the lens of multilingualism. Drawing upon production data from Asante Twi, English, German, and Spanish, the talk will address the dynamics of cross-linguistic influence among one's first, second, and (when relevant) third languages, as well as implications for theories of language acquisition and language typology.
