"Affixoids: Evidence from Persian" by Mehdi Sabzevari, PhD, guest researcher in linguistics and cognitive semiotics, Lund University

Abstract

There can be found some evidence from Persian for constituents that show properties of affixoids or if they could be called semi-affixes. They can stand independently while in combination with certain nouns they can have a rather notable distribution and, in that context, they behave like a derivational affix in a way that there is a kind of semantic change in the derived form when an affixoid is added to a base. Regarding the frequency of affixoids in Persian, it is observed that their usage is also very frequent in sentences and phrases as independent words. There are several affixoids attested in New Persian but a few will be discussed here as samples. It can be claimed that there is a independent status for affixoids in the literature as a semi-category.  In this webinar, some affixoids from New Persian will be discussed as they might be prefixoids or suffixoids.
