The Department

At the Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) you can study Classical and Modern Languages, Literature, Film Studies and Theatre Studies as well as Central and Eastern European Studies, European Studies, and East- and Southeast Asian Studies specialising in Japanese and Middle Eastern Studies. The centre has Lund’s largest student library and a popular restaurant and cafeteria. We offer freestanding courses in around 30 subjects and several study programmes. The extensive research conducted at the centre ensures that your studies will be linked to research. Your studies will be at the leading edge, informed by new knowledge generated by more than 200 of our researchers. The research has two main perspectives, focusing on language studies and literature and cultural studies. This can relate to language-learning, grammar, or how the welfare state is depicted on film.

The centre has 250 employees and 3 000 students including around 100 doctoral students. Together, we unite tradition with dynamism and creativity in an interdisciplinary learning and research environment.

Our facilities are in central Lund on the corner of Sölvegatan and Helgonavägen, a 15-minute walk from Lund’s central station. Bus no.7 stops just outside the centre on Sölvegatan.
