Raphidicyrtis trichosporella new to Sweden.

Rhaphidicyrtis trichosporella (Nyl.) Vain. is reported here as new to Sweden from five sites in the southernmost part of the country, two in the province of Skåne and three in Småland. All sites are deciduous woodlands of different composition, but most likely with a long ecological continuity. Two records are from scaling bark of Alnus glutinosa in Alnus swamps, two from hard and smooth bark of F

WT1-mediated repression of the proapoptotic transcription factor ZNF224 is triggered by the BCR-ABL oncogene.

The Kruppel-like protein ZNF224 is a co-factor of the Wilms' tumor 1 protein, WT1. We have previously shown that ZNF224 exerts a specific proapoptotic role in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) K562 cells and contributes to cytosine arabinoside-induced apoptosis, by modulating WT1-dependent transcription of apoptotic genes. Here we demonstrate that ZNF224 gene expression is down-regulated both in

Measurement of the total cross section from elastic scattering in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the total pp cross section at the LHC at root s = 7 TeV is presented. In a special run with high-beta* beam optics, an integrated luminosity of 80 mu b(-1) was accumulated in order to measure the differential elastic cross section as a function of the Mandelstam momentum transfer variable t. The measurement is performed with the ALFA sub-detector of ATLAS. Using a fit to the diffe

Techno-economic evaluation of 2nd generation bioethanol production from sugar cane bagasse and leaves integrated with the sugar-based ethanol process

Background: Bioethanol produced from the lignocellulosic fractions of sugar cane (bagasse and leaves), i.e. second generation (2G) bioethanol, has a promising market potential as an automotive fuel; however, the process is still under investigation on pilot/demonstration scale. From a process perspective, improvements in plant design can lower the production cost, providing better profitability an

Crosstalk between colorectal cancer cells and tumour-associated macrophages

Popular Abstract in English Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a cancer caused by uncontrolled cell growth in colon or rectum. CRC is the third most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer related death in the world. It is a multifactorial disease, both genetic predisposition and environmental play a role in the development of CRC. CRC is closely linked to chronic inflammation. Patients with Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. People suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohns’ disease and ulcerative colitis, are at an increased risk of developing CRC. The development of CRC is highly influenced by the tumour microenvironment. Tumour cells are able to recruit macrophages and change their beh

Ncf1 Provides a Reactive Oxygen Species-Independent Negative Feedback Regulation of TLR9-Induced IL-12p70 in Murine Dendritic Cells

Permanent exposure to pathogens requires decisions toward tolerance or immunity as a prime task of dendritic cells. The molecular mechanisms preventing uncontrolled immune responses are not completely clear. We investigated the regulatory function of Ncf1, an organizing protein of NADPH oxidase, in the signaling cascade of Toll-like receptors. TLR9-stimulated spleen cells from both Ncf1-deficient

Stakeholders’ Perception of Success: an Empirical Investigation

Different stakeholders involved in the software development may attribute success to different indicators. Analogously they may support different factors considered the root of successful projects. The study presented in this paper explores how different stakeholders perceive project success and what they deem the effect of specific factors on the project outcome. The study highlighted both common

Redefinition and global estimation of basal ecosystem respiration rate

Basal ecosystem respiration rate (BR), the ecosystem respiration rate at a given temperature, is a common and important parameter in empirical models for quantifying ecosystem respiration (ER) globally. Numerous studies have indicated that BR varies in space. However, many empirical ER models still use a global constant BR largely due to the lack of a functional description for BR. In this study,

A characterization of compactness for singular integrals

We prove a T(1) theorem to completely characterize compact Calderon-Zygmund operators. The result provides sufficient and necessary conditions for the compactness of singular integral operators acting on L-p(R) with 1 < p < infinity. (C) 2015 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

Molecularly imprinted polymer beads for nicotine recognition prepared by RAFT precipitation polymerization: a step forward towards multi-functionalities

A nicotine imprinted polymer was synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization using methacrylic acid (MAA) as a functional monomer. The resulting molecularly imprinted polymers were monodispersed beads with an average diameter of 1.55 mu m. The molecular selectivity of the imprinted polymer beads was evaluated by studying the uptake of nicotine and its stru

Unbiased Approach for Virus Detection in Skin Lesions

To assess presence of virus DNA in skin lesions, swab samples from 82 squamous cell carcinomas of the skin (SCCs), 60 actinic keratoses (AKs), paraffin-embedded biopsies from 28 SCCs and 72 kerathoacanthomas (KAs) and fresh-frozen biopsies from 92 KAs, 85 SCCs and 92 AKs were analyzed by high throughput sequencing (HTS) using 454 or Ion Torrent technology. We found total of 4,284 viral reads, out

Streptococcal virulence and the coagulation system.

Att bakteThis thesis explores streptococcal virulence from both mechanistic and evolutionary perspectives, where the mechanistic studies focus on interactions with the human coagulation system. We describe interactions between streptococcal surface proteins and components of the intrinsic pathway of coagulation and the kallikrein-kinin system in human plasma, as well as to how these surface proteins are pr

Studies in beta cells and adipocytes in the context of obesity and T2D - focusing on PDE3B, OPN and SCFAs

Popular Abstract in Swedish Typ 2-diabetiker: söt som socker och rik på fett Det finns flera olika varianter av diabetes och den mest förekommande är typ 2-diabetes (T2D). T2D kallades förr i dagligt tal åldersdiabetes, men numera drabbas individer i alla åldrar. Sjukdomen kännetecknas av förhöjda nivåer av socker och fett i blodet, vilket beror på att kroppens celler har en nedsatt förmåga att tType 2 diabetes (T2D) is a heterogeneous disease characterized by altered lipid parameters and elevated glucose levels, as a direct consequence of impaired insulin signaling in target tissues and reduced insulin exocytosis from pancreatic β-cells. Obesity, which dramatically increases worldwide, is associated with insulin resistance and T2D. In this thesis, we elucidate the effects of hormones and
