Generation and oxidation of aerosol deposited PdAg nanoparticles
PdAg nanoparticles with a diameter of 10 nm have been generated by an aerosol particle method, and supported on a silica substrate. By using a combination of X-ray Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy it is shown that the size distribution of the particles is narrow and that the two metals form an alloy with a mixture of 75% Pd and 25% Ag. Under oxidizing conditions,

Occupation and risk of lymphoma: a multicentre prospective cohort study (EPIC)
Objectives Evidence suggests that certain occupations and related exposures may increase the risk of malignant lymphoma. Farming, printing and paper industry, wood processing, meat handling and processing, welding, shoe and leather manufacturing and teaching profession are among the categories that have been implicated in previous studies. The relationship between occupation and malignant lymphoma
Reversible electron-hole separation in a hot carrier solar cell
Hot-carrier solar cells are envisioned to utilize energy filtering to extract power from photogenerated electron-hole pairs before they thermalize with the lattice, and thus potentially offer higher power conversion efficiency compared to conventional, single absorber solar cells. The efficiency of hot-carrier solar cells can be expected to strongly depend on the details of the energy filtering pr
Hierarchical Production Scheduling - A Case Study at Perstorp
Planning and scheduling are functions that have large economic impact in the chemical process industry. For integrated sites with many interconnected production areas, obtaining production schedules that respect all production-related constraints is a complex task. One important issue is the constraints due to disturbances in utilities, such as steam and cooling water. These are often site-wide di

A feather hydrogen isoscape for Mexico
Developing useful biological isoscapes for areas of the world is a priority. This is the case for Mexico that hosts a large percentage of North America's Neotropical migrant birds. Here we investigated the use of House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) feathers to create a spatially explicit feather deuterium isoscape for that country using samples (n=461) that were collected across Mexico. Considerable

Elevated pulmonary arterial pressure and altered expression of Ddah1 and Arg1 in mice lacking cavin-1/PTRF.
Caveolae are invaginations in the plasma membrane that depend on caveolins and cavins for maturation. Here, we investigated the pulmonary phenotype in mice lacking cavin-1. Bright field and electron-microscopy showed that the cavin-1-deficient mice lacked caveolae in the lung, had an increased lung tissue density, and exhibited hypertrophic remodeling of pulmonary arteries. The right ventricle of
Intense and widespread seismicity during the end-Triassic mass extinction due to emplacement of a large igneous province
Multiple levels of earthquake-induced soft-sediment deformations (seismites) are concentrated in the end-Triassic mass extinction interval across Europe. The repetitive nature of the seismites rules out an origin by an extraterrestrial impact. Instead, this intense seismic activity is linked to the formation of the Central Atlantic magmatic province (CAMP). By the earliest Jurassic the seismic act
Optimal combination of form and motion cues in human heading perception
We examined what role motion-streak-like form information plays in heading perception. We presented observers with an integrated form and motion display in which random-dot pairs in a 3D cloud were oriented toward one direction on the screen (the form FOE) to form a radial Glass pattern while moving in a different direction in depth (the motion FOE). Observers' heading judgments were strongly bias

Characterization of olfactory sensory neurons in the white clover seed weevil, Apion fulvipes (Coleoptera: Apionidae).
Seed-eating Apion weevils (Coleoptera: Apionidae) cause large economic losses in white and red clover seed production across Europe. Monitoring and control of clover weevils would be facilitated by semiochemical-based methods. Until now, however, nothing was known about physiological or behavioral responses to semiochemicals in this insect group. Here we analyzed the antenna of the white clover (T
Four-wave-mixing spectroscopy of peridinin in solution and in the peridinin-chlorophyll-a protein
A model for the third order optical response of carotenoids is used to analyse transient grating and pump-probe data of peridinin in solution and bound in the peridinin-chlorophyll protein (PCP). For peridinin in solution, the transient grating signal detected at 505 nm exhibits a bi-exponential recovery whose fast phase is assigned to relaxation from the S-2 state that has a lifetime of 75 +/- 25

Livsmedelsprotesterna i Malmö 1799
This is at study of a food riot that took place in the southern Swedish city of Malmö in 1799. It demonstrates that E P Thompon’s influential concept of a “moral economy” still is a quite productive analytical tool. Focusing on the relation between the crowd and the authorities, the essay demonstrates that a moral economy was partly shared by the two groups, but clashed with the new ideology of fr
