Proving gender and sexuality in the (homo)nationalist Greek asylum system : Credibility, sexual citizenship and the ‘bogus’ sexual other

The aim of this article is to analyse and critique Greek authorities’ expectations for a ‘credible’ account in queer asylum claims. As some of the caseworkers’ accounts portray, through 16 semi-structured interviews, in order to be deemed ‘credibly queer’ applicants are expected to have passed through a painful, discursively narratable process of self-realization and have suffered enough in their

A bowhead whale vertebra embedded in marine limit beach sediment on Barentsøya, Svalbard

A cross-valley beach terrace in Iladalen in the south-eastern corner of Barentsøya (Svalbard) is interpreted as built by long-shore sediment transport and deposition, with its maximum height at 88 m a.s.l., marking the marine limit (ML) at deglaciation. A whale vertebra (most probably from a bowhead whale, Balaena mysticetus) was found embedded in the upper part of the littoral sediments at a hei

The open abdomen in trauma, acute care, and vascular and endovascular surgery : comprehensive, expert, narrative review

Background: The open abdomen is an innovation that greatly improved surgical understanding of damage control, temporary abdominal closure, staged abdominal reconstruction, viscera and enteric fistula care, and abdominal wall reconstruction. This article provides an evidence-informed, expert, comprehensive narrative review of the open abdomen in trauma, acute care, and vascular and endovascular sur

Cardiovascular events, mortality, early retirement and costs in >50 000 persons with chronic heart failure in Sweden

Aims: We aimed to examine cardiovascular events (stroke and myocardial infarction [MI]), mortality, early retirement and economic costs over 5 years in people with chronic heart failure (CHF) and matched controls in Sweden. Methods and results: Individuals (aged ≥16 years) living in Sweden on 1 January 2012 were identified in an existing database. Individuals with CHF were propensity score matched

Computed Tomography-Based Quantitative Texture Analysis and Gut Microbial Community Signatures Predict Survival in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

This study aims to combine computed tomography (CT)-based texture analysis (QTA) and a microbiome-based biomarker signature to predict the overall survival (OS) of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-treated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients by analyzing their CT scans (n = 129) and fecal microbiome (n = 58). One hundred and five continuous CT parameters were obtained, where principal comp

Tying Shock Features to Impact Conditions : The Significance of Shear Deformation During Impact Cratering

Impact cratering is associated with extreme physical conditions with temperatures and pressures far exceeding conditions otherwise prevailing at the surfaces of terrestrial planets. As a consequence, shock-metamorphosed rocks contain unique deformation features such as planar deformation features in quartz, high-pressure mineral polymorphs and melted rock. While the physical conditions of formatio

Isolation, Behavioral Identification, and Pathogenicity Assessment of Entomopathogenic Fungi from a Forest Wood Borer

Forest wood borers (FWB) cause severe tree damage and economic losses worldwide. The release of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) during the FWB emergence period is considered an acceptable alternative to chemical control. However, EPF resources have been significantly less explored for FWBs, in contrast to agricultural insect pests. This paper presents a protocol for exploring EPF resources from FWBs

Citizenship and mobility of the poor: Sweden during the 19th century

The distinctive features of the modern form of citizenship include, among other things, that it is both internally inclusive and externally exclusive; that it establishes legal equality so that membership of the state supersedes all other memberships and allegiances; and that it defines membership as independent of residence. These characteristics largely evolved during the “long nineteenth centur

SAI-CH-6 : Development of a Short Form of the State Anxiety Inventory for Children At-Risk for Type 1 Diabetes

Objective: To develop a reliable and valid short form of the State Anxiety Subscale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-CH) in the Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) study. Methods: A Development Sample of 842 10-year-old TEDDY children completed the STAI-CH State Subscale about their type 1 diabetes (T1D) risk. The best 6 items (three anxiety-present a

Government regulation on the flourishing network audio-visual entrepreneurship: experience from the administration in Beijing

The network audio-visual entrepreneurship in China has achieved great progress and engendered conspicuous negative externalities in the early development stage. Few studies have investigated how media entrepreneurship coordinates with government regulation and the influence of government regulation on media entrepreneurship. This study aims at investigating government regulation on the flourishing

Do markets Trump politics? Fossil and renewable market reactions to major political events

We investigate the effects of three events with major importance for climate policy on energy sector stocks: the Paris Agreement, the Trump election and presidency, and the Biden election. By combining event studies with impulse-indicator saturation methods, we show that the Paris Agreement and the election of Mr. Biden benefited renewable industries, while the election of Mr. Trump had negative e

Trends in alcohol-related harm among Swedish youth : Do in-patient care registry data match drinking trends?

IntroductionYouth drinking has been declining in Sweden since the year 2000. There is a paucity of studies examining trends in alcohol-related harm during this period. The overall aim of the present study is to examine how trends in alcohol-related harm match trends in drinking among Swedish youths during 2000–2021.MethodsMeasures of alcohol use were obtained from national school surveys. Prevalen

Anti-fracking campaigns in the United Kingdom : the influence of local opportunity structures on protest

Hydraulic fracturing (‘fracking’) was a controversial issue in the United Kingdom that sparked national and community-led groups to organise protest mobilisations. To date, however, the social science literature has largely focussed upon general anti-fracking discourse rather than on the physical, community-led mobilisations that emerged from the frustrations of people directly affected at a local

Iconoclash and the climate movement

Priceless artworks are being destroyed or, at least, they appear to be. Yet the very act of climate protest targeting these works in what could be construed as acts of vandalism are in themselves productive of new visual media through which climate concern and urgency is conveyed. This article offers reflections upon one way in which these protest actions may be conceptually understood. It does so

From familiarity to fragility: : an autoethnographic exploration of an Italian city

Space, and embodied movement through it, produces place meanings and senses of belonging as individual and environment act upon each other. This co-constitution, however, remains changeable over time with each new or repeated experience. Following an autoethnographic walk around an Italian city, this article charts how passage through and between different parts of the city can evoke often consist

A population-based study on the incidence and aetiology of infectious complications in peritoneal dialysis in South Sweden

Background: Peritonitis is a major cause of morbidity in peritoneal dialysis (PD) and an independent risk factor for elevated all-cause mortality. The aims of this study were to report the incidence, trend, aetiology, and antimicrobial susceptibility of PD-associated peritonitis and catheter-related infections in South Sweden between 2011–2020.Methods: This population-based observational cohort st
