Is everybody an expert? An investigation into the impact of professional versus user reviews on movie revenues
This study is the first attempt to examine the effect of electronic word of mouth (user reviews) relative to expert reviews on moviegoing decisions. For the first time, we use time-varying data on expert reviews. We find that expert ratings matter much more for moviegoing decisions than user ratings and volume. Our data also show that experts tend to be more critical but more consistent in their r
Accuracy of determination of the glomerular filtration marker iohexol by European laboratories as monitored by external quality assessment
Glomerular filtration is the most important kidney function. The most accurate glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimates are based on the clearance of exogenous filtration markers. Of these, iohexol is the only exogenous marker that is included in an external quality assessment (EQA) scheme. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the performance of the European laboratories participating in
Spontaneous Self-Assembly of Cesium Lead Halide Perovskite Nanoplatelets into Cuboid Crystals with High Intensity Blue Emission
Colloidal all-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals have gained significant attention as a promising material for both fundamental and applied research due to their excellent emission properties. However, reported photoluminescence quantum yields (PL QYs) of blue-emitting perovskite nanocrystals are rather low, mostly due to the fact that the high energy excitons for such wide bandgap materials are e
Understand the genomic diversity and evolution of fungal pathogen Candida glabrata by genome-wide analysis of genetic variations
The yeast Candida glabrata, an opportunistic human fungal pathogen, is the second most prevalent cause of candidiasis worldwide, with an infection incidence that has been increasing in the past decades. The completion of the C. glabrata reference genome made fundamental contributions to the understanding of the molecular basis of its pathogenic phenotypes. However, knowledge of genome-wide genetic
The role of the dermatologist in the immune-mediated/allergic diseases – position statement of the EADV task force on contact dermatitis, EADV task force on occupational skin diseases, UEMS-EBDV subcommission allergology and European Dermatology Forum
Background: The members of the Task Force on Contact Dermatitis and the Task Force on Occupational Dermatoses of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), of the European Dermatology Forum (EDF), and the members of the UEMS Section of Dermatology-Venereology (UEMS-EBDV) we want to vindicate the fundamental role that the specialist in Dermatology has in the diagnosis and managemen

The relation between longshore variations in grain size distribution and sediment transport processes
This study investigates the relationship between grain-size distributions and sediment transport processes at Ängelholm Beach in southwest Sweden. In total, 308 longshore and cross-shore distributed sediment samples are analysed with respect to median grain size and sorting. The longshore sediment transport is almost unidirectional from north to south. Its gradients cause erosion in the north and

Using contrast agents to obtain maps of regional perfusion and capillary wall permeability
Tracer kinetic modeling for quantification of perfusion and capillary wall permeability is a well-established approach, applied to various imaging modalities. In this review, methods employing intravascular as well as diffusible nonradioactive contrast agents for characterization of tissue microcirculation and microvasculature are described. The article focuses on perfusion and permeability imagin
Paperboard Mechanical Properties at Fracture
Paperboard mechanical properties at fracture during uniaxial tests is an interplay between available elastic energy at fracture and the fracture energy needed to separate the sample into two parts. A test at a critical length, the load vs. elongation curve immediately falls from a point of instability to zero load. Whereas, a test at a stable length give a stable descending load-elongation curve wPaperboard mechanical properties at fracture during uniaxial tests is an interplay between available elastic energy at fracture and the fracture energy needed to separate the sample into two parts. In a test at a critical specimen length, the load vs. elongation curve immediately drops from a point of instability to zero load, whereas a test at a stable length gives a stable descending load-elonga

Core curriculum for medical physicists in radiology. Recommendations from an EFOMP/ESR working group
Some years ago it was decided that a European curriculum should be developed for medical physicists professionally engaged in the support of clinical diagnostic imaging departments. With this in mind, EFOMP (European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics) in association with ESR (European Society of Radiology) nominated an expert working group. This curriculum is now to hand. The curricu
