Is Passive Farming A Problem for Agriculture in the EU?

We address a new agricultural policy concern following the decoupling of CAP direct payments in 2005: passive farming, whereby landowners maintain their agricultural area to collect payments without producing commodities. It is claimed that passive farming is hindering agricultural development by 'blocking' access to farmland for expanding farmers. We evaluate the links between the EU's Single Pay

Alternative reproductive strategies and the maintenance of female color polymorphism in damselflies

Genetic polymorphisms are powerful model systems to study the maintenance of diversity in nature. In some systems, polymorphisms are limited to female coloration; these are thought to have arisen as a consequence of reducing male mating harassment, commonly resulting in negative frequency-dependent selection on female color morphs. One example is the damselfly Ischnura elegans, which shows three f

Global Innovation Systems—A conceptual framework for innovation dynamics in transnational contexts

This paper proposes a framework for the analysis of technological innovation processes in transnational contexts. By drawing on existing innovation system concepts and recent elaborations on the globalization of innovation, we develop a multi-scalar conceptualization of innovation systems. Two key mechanisms are introduced and elaborated: the generation of resources in multi-locational subsystems

Test of CP invariance in vector-boson fusion production of the Higgs boson using the Optimal Observable method in the ditau decay channel with the ATLAS detector

A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion using the method of the Optimal Observable is presented. The analysis exploits the decay mode of the Higgs boson into a pair of τ leptons and is based on 20.3 fb - 1 of proton–proton collision data at s = 8 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Contributions from CP-violating interactions between the Higgs boson

Modeling the multiphase processing of an urban and a rural air mass with COSMO-MUSCAT

A reduced version of the complex aqueous phase mechanism CAPRAM3.0i (C3.0RED) was used in the regional chemistry transport model COSMO–MUSCAT in a 2-D application. Besides sulfate and nitrate production, the mechanism treats a complex HOx-chemistry, transition metal ion chemistry and organic species up to C4. The effects of the cloud chemistry on the chemical composition of air and particles were

Oscillations of the lophyl radical concentration during the photodecomposition of o-Cl-hexaarylbisimidazole

Hexaarylbisimidazole (HABI) is a well established photoinitiator in the graphics industry which undergoes in the absence of other reaction partners a fully reversible homolytic bond cleavage into two lophyl radicals L. Surprisingly we now found oscillations of the radical concentration at low temperature in a solution of o-Cl-HABI in toluene, which is an indication of a more complex photochemistry

Doxa of Shareholders and Owners: : On the Threshold of Financialization

Following financialization, there has emerged an understanding of what it implies to be a shareholder based on the shareholder value perception. However, as this shareholder value perception spreads internationally, it clashes with traditional perceptions. In this paper, we apply the language developed by Bourdieu to a Swedish public debate on equal treatment of shareholders in connection with theFollowing financialization, there has emerged an understanding of what it implies to be a shareholder based on the shareholder value perception. Search for pair production of gluinos decaying via stop and sbottom in events with b -jets and large missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at s =13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for supersymmetry involving the pair production of gluinos decaying via third-generation squarks to the lightest neutralino (χ10) is reported. It uses an LHC proton-proton data set at a center-of-mass energy s=13 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb-1 collected with the ATLAS detector in 2015. The signal is searched for in events containing several energetic jets, of which at least

Measurement of the total cross section from elastic scattering in pp collisions at s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the total pp cross section at the LHC at s=8 TeV is presented. An integrated luminosity of 500 μb−1was accumulated in a special run with high-β⋆beam optics to measure the differential elastic cross section as a function of the Mandelstam momentum transfer variable t. The measurement is performed with the ALFA sub-detector of ATLAS. Using a fit to the differential elastic cross sec

Measurement of total and differential W + W − production cross sections in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector and limits on anomalous triple-gauge-boson couplings

The production of W boson pairs in proton-proton collisions at s=8 TeV is studied using data corresponding to 20.3 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector during 2012 at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The W bosons are reconstructed using their leptonic decays into electrons or muons and neutrinos. Events with reconstructed jets are not included in the candidate event sample.

The unlikely root of stock market development : labour and professional influence on transparent accounting

The development of transparent accounting is often theoretically linked with the development of financial markets. In this paper we argue that such an understanding of transparent accounting does not necessarily consider the temporality of the historical context where transparent accounting is invented. To illustrate this argument we empirically investigate the raise of transparent accounting in S

The unlikely root of stock market development : labour influence on transparent accounting

Few, if any, corporate governance related issues have been given as much research interest as ownership dispersion and ownership concentration of listed corporations: ‘Why is that some countries, such as the US and UK, has dispersed ownership of corporations listed there, while others, such as France and Germany, has concentrated ownership of corporations listed there?’. This is a question that ha

Wintering area and migration routes for Ortolan Buntings Emberiza hortulana from Sweden determined with light-geologgers

The decrease of Ortolan Bunting Emberiza hortulana inWestern Europe over the last five decades has caused seriousconcern for the survival of this species in Sweden. In order to find out the migration routes and wintering location,we equipped several males with geologgers. Ourdata show annual cycles of migrations routes, winteringgrounds and time schedules for seven re-trapped birds. The wintering ar

Involvement of the ARRO-1 gene in adventitious root formation in apple

Adventitious root formation is a limiting factor for vegetative propagation in apple. The molecular mechanisms underlying the rooting process are still largely unknown and need to be extensively investigated. The Adventitious Rooting Related Oxygenase (ARRO-1) has previously been isolated from apple and has been shown to be upregulated during adventitious root induction. However, the function of t
