TNU members Gabery, Hult, Sajjad and Soylu participate in a FENS-IBRO partially supported school on Metabolic aspects of chronic brain diseases on July 20 - 26 2011 at the Reisensburg castle in Günzburg, Germany. Petersén is part of the organizing committee but could not travel due to pregnancy.

Sanaz Gabery, Sofia Hult and Rana Soylu present their latest research findings as posters at the World Congress of Huntington's Disease (WCHD) in Melbourne, Australia September 11-14. The travels have been funded by travel stipends from the Maggie Stephen's Foundation, the Royal Physiographic Society in Lund, the Medical Faculty as well as from the congress directly.
The Journal of Huntington's Disease is a new international multidisciplinary journal that aims to facilitate progress in understanding the genetics, molecular correlates, pathogenesis, pharmacology, diagnosis and treatment of Huntington's disease and related disorders. Dr Barbara Baldo received a PhD in Neurobiology in 2011. The PhD studies were performed at Novartis Pharma, Basel and Basel University, Switzerland, and the thesis was entitled "Innovative approaches to monitor mutant huntingtin and to facilitate its degradation in Huntington’s disease models”. Sanaz Gabery, PhD student in TNU, was awarded the prize for best presentation at the poster session of the Neuroscience Day, May 2012, in Lund.Barbara Baldo, postdoctoral fellow in TNU, received a grant of 55 000 SEK from the Segerfalk Foundation for her work on the role of orexin neurons in Huntington's disease, which also was announced at the Neuroscience Day.Congratulations!

An International summer camp for young adults in families with HD visits TNU on July 27, 2012. On Friday the 27th of July TNU and Bagadilico had visitors from the International summer camp for young adults in families with HD. The regional newspaper Skånskan Dagbladet published an article on the visit, describing the symptoms of HD and how life in a family with HD can be. TNU members attended the 7th EHDN Plenary Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, September 14-16 2012. The TNU team presented posters on the development of assays to measure huntingtin and studies investigating the underlying mechanisms of depression, anxiety and metabolic changes in HD. Petersén chaired one of the sessions.

Petersén begins her tenured faculty position as Senior Lecturer (universitetslektor) in medical research with specialization in Neuroscience at the Medical Faculty of Lund University in November 2012 after three years with a position as senior researcher (forskaretjänst) in psychiatry at 50% appointed by the Swedish Research Council.

The Network of European CNS Transplantation and Restoration (NECTAR) held its annual meeting in Lund Nov 29-30 2012 with around 130 participants. Petersén was invited to give an overview of mouse models in HD, and Soylu and Sajjad were selected to present their recent research findings in the data blitz sessions.

Congratulations to Sofia Hult Lundh who received one of the five stipends of 2012 from the Swedish Lundbeckfoundation at a ceremony at Trolleholm castle on the 17th of January 2012. The stipend will be used to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying depressive- and anxiety-like features in mice with Huntington's disease.
Dr Rachel Cheong starts a postdoctoral fellowship in TNU 1st of February 2013. Dr Cheong is from Singapore and has a PhD in Neuroscience from University of Otago, New Zealand. Her PhD thesis was entitled Effects of estradiol on gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons. In Lund she will investigate the role of hypothalamic dysfunction for non-motor aspects of Huntington's disease.

The Swedish patient organization for Huntington's disease organises a one-day meeting in Gothenburg. Petersén will speak about research as well as about early stages of the clinical disease.
