Investigations on Reducing Burr Formation in Metal Cutting

Metal cutting is a very common operation in the manufacturing industry. Drilling and other hole-making operations perhaps account for 50% of all metal cutting, according to some investigations. All metal cutting including drilling always produces burrs, as a by-product. Actually burrs are nothing but uncut metal at the beginning and at the end of the operations. Yet, despite burr's omnipresence in

Flow Pooling as Lateral Collaboration

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the Multi User Concept (MUC) approach, a combination of vertical and horizontal collaboration (lateral collaboration) across different actors in a supply chain. To analyse this concept a quantitative case study using modelling and simulation was made based on actual data from several companies in an automotive supply chain. On a supply chain level, the model

On robustness of turbo coded OFDM systems over frequency selective channels

The robustness of fixed Turbo coded communication systems over frequency selective channels are investigated. The simulated amplitude functions are based on an idealised two level function and a decaying function. The results indicate that the system can cope with severe disturbances without to much loss.

The need for a verification and validation protocol for evacuation models

To date, there is no standard Verification and Validation (V&V) protocol for the evaluation of evacuation model predictions. This paper is intended to open a discussion on the main issues associated with the definition of a standard procedure for the V&V of building fire evacuation models. Examples of such issues are discussed, namely 1) the definition of tests able to investigate the capa

Gas Flow and Heat Transfer Modeling of an Anode-Supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Duct

The composite duct considered consists of a thick porous anode layer, the gas flow duct and a solid inter-connector. Unique fuel cell boundary conditions, such as combined thermal boundary conditions on solid walls, mass injection by electrochemical reaction and gas permeation across the interface, were applied in the analysis. The characteristics of gas flow and heat transfer were investigated an
