Towards guidelines for selection of production performance indicators to measure sustainability performance

This paper’s main aim is to review and compare sustainability frameworks and models aiming to propose an overarching strategic planning process for selection of sustainable production (SP) indicators within the manufacturing sector, which point toward radical, systematic and goal-oriented changes. The Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development is selected as a conceptual model to guide strate

Cost-based pricing for learning organizations – a model presentation and demonstration

A price can be set in different ways for a manufactured component, most commonly based on estimated manufacturing costs, market intelligence, and market adopted pricing or customer value. Pricing is one of the key factors when selecting subcontractors in the manufacturing sector. As a subcontractor, there are certain risks connected with pricing of a product, too low pricing leads to losses, where

Simulating the Outcome of Heart Allocation Policies Using Deep Neural Networks

We created a system to simulate the heart allocation process in a transplant queue, using a discrete event model and a neural network algorithm, which we named the Lund Deep Learning Transplant Algorithm (LuDeLTA). LuDeLTA is utilized to predict the survival of the patients both in the queue and after transplant. We tried four different allocation policies: wait time, clinical rules and allocating

Deep Learning Applications for Biomedical Data and Natural Language Processing

The human brain can be seen as an ensemble of interconnected neurons, more or less specialized to solve different cognitive and motor tasks. In computer science, the term deep learning is often applied to signify sets of interconnected nodes, where deep means that they have several computational layers. Development of deep learning is essentially a quest to mimic how the human brain, at least part

Code Manipulation : Architecture In-Between Universal and Specific Urban Space

Experiences from both academia and practice demonstrate that the legal instruments that comprise the primary tool for carrying out city planning in the U.S. have grown increasingly complex and abstract. Processing the universal rather than the specific aspects of urbanism, these zoning codes have a limited capacity to adapt to local significance and site-specific characteristics, to which architec

Charge and proton dynamics in molecules and free clusters : from atomic to nanometer scale

The detailed study of the time evolution of these mechanisms in their original environment is a challenging task. In this thesis we develop experimental tools and methods to enable the study of charge and energy transfer. A new ion and electron moment

Trust Anchors in Software Defined Networks

Advances in software virtualization and network processing lead to increasing network softwarization. Software network elements running on commodity platforms replace or complement hardware components in cloud and mobile network infrastructure. However, such commodity platforms have a large attack surface and often lack granular control and tight integration of the underlying hardware and software

In vivo high field myelin water imaging: Investigating the T2 distribution at 7T

With the increased frequency of human 7T scanners, there is also a drive towards the implementation advanced MR sequences, such a myelin water imaging, at high fields. Here, we demonstrate the feasibility of translating 3T myelin acquisitions scheme, GRASE, to 7T. We studied the distribution of T values at 7T and determined that myelin water has a T

Effects of medication reviews on use of potentially inappropriate medications in elderly patients; a cross-sectional study in Swedish primary care

BACKGROUND: Drug use among the elderly population is generally extensive and the use of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) is common, which increases the risk for drug-related problems (DRP). Medication reviews are one method to improve drug therapy by identifying, preventing and solving DRPs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of medication reviews on total drug use and po

A history of dead ends : the historiography of early twentieth-century Swedish mural painting

Analysing the historiography of early to mid 20th century monumental painting in Sweden, the article argue that this historiography is characterised by a recurring interest of unactualised avant-garde proposals for public art (many of them preserved as sketches at Skissernas Museum – Museum of Artistic Process and Public Art in Lund). Sketches for these proposals are set forward as key monuments i

Towards energy efficient heating in industrial processes - Three steps to achieve maximized efficiency in an induction heating system

The demand for energy efficient heating solutions can be met by a new concept technology of induction heating. The concept technology relies on inductors built on litz wires moulded in soft magnetic composite. The aim of this article is to present and verify a hypothesis for greatly improved induction heating efficiency when modifying a traditional inductor design. The verification performed using

British Lichen Society på Öland

Förra sommaren gästades SLF den 13–17 juni av den brittiskamotsvarigheten BLS genom en inbjudan av Lars Borg, somibland gästat deras exkursioner i England. A Novel Capacitive Sensor Based on Molecularly Imprinted Nanoparticles as Recognition Elements

Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) are synthetic receptors capable of selective binding to their target (template) molecules and, hence, are used as recognition elements in assays and sensors as a replacement for relatively unstable enzymes and antibodies. Herein, we describe a manufacturing-friendly protocol for integration of MIP nanoparticles (nanoMIPs) with a (label-free) capacitive sensor.
