Redesigning daily occupations (Redotm) : Facilitating return to work among women with stress-related disorders

There is a scarcity of rehabilitation methods for people with stress-related disorders that are effective in terms of return to work and reducing sick leave. This chapter describes the Redesigning Daily Occupations (ReDOTM) program for women with stress-related disorders, the development, its main principles, and primary and secondary outcomes. The ReDOTM program, which addresses people’s whole re

Increased sweat sodium concentration in patients with Alzheimer's disease

Sweat sodium concentration was estimated with pilocarpine iontophoresis in I 15 women with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and 29 healthy control women. The age ranged from 76 to 96 years with a mean age of 85 years in both groups. The mean sodium concentration of 91 ± 41 mmol/l (n = 11) in the Alzheimer patients was significantly higher than in the control group (62 ± 29 mmol/l, n=27, p=0.0011). 27% of

Suppressed antibody and interleukin-6 responses to acute pyelonephritis in pregnancy

This study examined the effect of pregnancy on the host response to acute pyelonephritis. Urine and serum samples were obtained at the time of diagnosis and after two weeks, from non-pregnant and pregnant women with acute pyelonephritis. The samples were analyzed for interleukin-6 (IL-6) and specific antibody activity to antigens extracted from the Escherichia coli strain infecting each patient. T

Consumption of breads containing in situ-produced arabinoxylan oligosaccharides alters gastrointestinal effects in healthy volunteers

Arabinoxylan oligosaccharides (AXOS) are studied as food compounds with prebiotic potential. Here, the impact of consumption of breads with in situ-produced AXOS on intestinal fermentation and overall gastrointestinal characteristics was evaluated in a completely randomized, double-blind, controlled, cross-over study. Twenty-seven healthy volunteers consumed 180 g of wheat/rye bread with or withou

Intersectional inequalities and the U.S. opioid crisis: challenging dominant narratives and revealing heterogeneities

Dominant narratives of prescription opioid misuse (POM) in the U.S. have portrayed it as an issue primarily affecting White communities. In this study we explore POM as reported in data from the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, using an intersectional multilevel analysis of individual heterogeneity and discriminatory accuracy (MAIHDA). We map the risk of POM through a series of multile

People living by changing seas : Mesolithic coastal settlement on the west side of the Baltic Sea

Selected find spots along the Swedish coast of the Baltic Sea are presented, in order to illustrate different ways in which hunter-gatherer societies related to the coast during the Mesolithic. Transformations of the landscape were mainly due to isostatic and eustatic changes. In the northern part, the land rose, forming new coasts and archipelagos at a speed that was noticeable even within one ge

RapidArc treatment verification using polymer gel dosimetry

The aim of this study was to verify a novel volumetric arc therapy technique, RapidArc". Polymer gel dosimetry system was used to measure the advanced inhomogeneous 3D dose distribution produced using the technique RapidArc". A preclinical installation of the novel beam delivery approach was set up on a linear accelerator at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. A prostate treatment plan was delivered to

Logistics needs qualitative research – especially action research

This paper describes how qualitative research methods, particularly action research case studies, can contribute to further advance and develop logistics research. The paper also describes limitations with the current dominance of quantitative (especially survey) research in logistics. However, the paper is not a pure criticism of the use of quantitative research methods in general or in logistics

Mass transfer studies on immobilized α-chymotrypsin biocatalysts prepared by deposition for use in organic medium

Mass transfer limitations were studied in enzyme preparations of α- chymotrypsin made by deposition on different porous support materials such as controlled pore glasses, Celite, and polyamides of different particle sizes. It is the onset of mass transfer limitations that determines the position of the activity optimum with respect to enzyme loading on each support. The evidence of various experim

An agarose gel electrophoresis method for the separation of arabinogalactan proteins.

A method for resolving plasma membrane associated arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) has been developed. Plasma membranes purified by aqueous polymer two‐phase partitioning were first subjected to Triton X‐114 fractionation. The resulting water phase contained all detectable plasma membrane‐bound AGPs. Plasma membrane AGPs were then resolved in an SDS‐agarose gel electrophoresis system (SDS‐AGE). For

Enhancing the ttH signal through top-quark spin polarization effects at the LHC

We consider the impact of the tt spin correlations in the Higgs boson production in association with top quark pairs pp→ttH and in the corresponding backgrounds. We study the H→bb and H→γγ decay modes. We show that retaining the tt spin-correlation effects could significantly improve the LHC sensitivity to the ttH signal, particularly in the H→γγ channel.

Rock, paper, scissors : Lessons from the steel industry - Should paper listen?

The US paper industry should understand competent management and continuous innovation in a competitive environment in order to ensure the proper growth of the industry. It is suggested that investment in new technology and processes ensures the benefits to companies and the government policies is not the optimal solution to improve the industry. The United States is although a powerful nation but

From function to process : A logistics-based framework for transforming Tetra Pak business support

This article describes a logistics-based framework for organizational change of service organizations. This framework is based on the key concepts of modern logistics: systems thinking for a holistic approach to business; process orientation for structure of the organization; and process management for continuous change and improvement. The development of logistics as a research and practitioner d
